Looking back for the last 3 years and tracking all the losses in a spreadsheet and coming up with the average losing margin. For me a good way to see for this key metric and are we on track for making improvements each year. The 2023 year has 10 games where Ratten took the reins while Clarko was dealing with the Racism fallout from the Hawks.
For 2026, the team need to halve the losing margin and have no more +60 point blow outs. They are the most soul destroying and completely erode any hope and faith that we are on the right path.
I would tap Patch Adams on the shoulder and thank him for his service. Then recruit outside for the best midfield coordinator with a defensive intent out there.
Secondly I would get a new fitness head and work on lifting the players endurance to run out games, while restricting the amount of repeated soft tissue injuries we see (see Goater, Archer and even that flaky Fisher).
- 2023 Av losing margin 35.1 points (5 losses under 10 points)
- 2024 Av losing margin 47.85 points (3 losses under 10 points)
- 2035 Av losing margin 41.67 points (4 losses under 10 points)
- The last 2 matches of 2024 were absolute shockers where we threw the towel in against the Hawks and Doggies by 96 and 124 points respectively. If we removed those 2 blowouts then it would be a 41 point Average. But we can’t and have to accept that stain on how little we cared.
- For the Ratten period of 10 games it was 40.1 points.
- If we assume a win against the Tigers this week (we better f#%king win
) and an honorable loss to the Crows by 30 points (they might rest some players) then the Average loss would round out to 40.9 points.
