Obviously this is important to Woods fans and historically I think more important than the premiership this year.
AFAICS if WC beat Adelaide and GWS beat North next week, Dawks will finish out of the top 4 and be jsut about fkd. but if not, it may be up to Collingwood themselves to give them the boot. To me this would make our game next week bigger than a grannie, because if Dawks finish top 4, the 4-peat record (and claim to greatest side in history) is looking very shaky.

Oh a bit of a relevant article: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...k=404581afa3075b1cba8b61cb7fb355c0-1471725848

Geelong can also pass HAwthorn on the ladder. They only trail by 6 percent and play the Lions today.

Coll Haw is a Sunday game to the position will be known before the game starts.

I'll reply over here where it's on topic. I half followed Port in the SANFL days as a kid as they were also magpies, while none of that transferred to their AFL team I was also cheering them home that day. I don't want someone to equal our record as they'll be pumped up as better as it's a "modern" flag. For mine a flag is a flag and from what I've read great hardship is a perfect description. Those flags basically reenforced our heart and coupled with the club helping people out really gave the working class hope, spirit and a sense of pride.

There's little doubt that those sides were our greatest ever, a handful played in the 1920/22 runners up, a fair percentage in the '25/26 runners up and the young stars formed the nucleus of the 1935/36 flags and '37-39 runners up. Almost the joining of 2 eras if you will.

A Brisbane 4 peat wouldn't have been valid in fact nor was their 3 peat, that team (like GWS) was manufactured by the AFL for the sole purpose of growing popularity in the nrl states. I actually wouldn't flinch if GWS or GC win any because it is not a developed team it's a bought team and always will be remembered as - purchaser AFL. The Dawks however are an epitome of development and we need to plant a seed of doubt in their minds!

Hands in the back (Clement), sub rule, interchange restrictions... when have they ever done that?
And people wonder why we say the afl have it in for us. Including the umpires. I swear there is a directive form the afl to bugger us up one way or the other. But then, I digress

Yeah, I think we are no chance with so many injuries, particularly to our forwards.

I mean, we will be depending upon Jesse White as our key forward.
But Travis will be back, and might just turn back the clock for this one and notch an etching in history. With Jesse in good form they could work well together

Just make hawthorn lose a final that boots them out.
Can't stand them in a GF. Been in. Too often

Yeah, I was gonna post the same thing yesterday.

Assuming Geelong and Bulldogs both win tomorrow (vs Brisbane, Essendon).
You will have 4 teams on 64pts (Syd, Ade, Gee, Haw) and 3 on 60 (GWS, WCE, WB)... and Hawthorn have the clear 2nd worst % of that lot. (Can't possibly catch the Eagles %, but could easily be caught by WB if they smash the Bombers).

That means that if we can beat them next week - the highest they possibly finish is 4th, but automatically fall out of the 4 if just one of GWS (NM), WCE (Ade), WB (Fre - depends on %) win... and potentially right down to 7th if all 3 teams win. If they beat us then they stay in the top 4.

It would almost make up for this shitty season if we can do that next week... be the team that puts the first nail in the coffin of the Hawks run for a 4-peat. (because they really shouldn't win from outside the top 4 - if they manage that, I will be mightily impressed).

For me this is less about the Pies' record (although I do enjoy that stays with the club) but more about how much I dislike so much of Hawthorn and their playing group, and how biased the media, umpires and MRP are towards them - that I just can't wait to see this end.
---

It'll be tough without Darcy (but hopefully Cloke comes in and has a big game)- but we have shown this year that our best is good enough. If we show up and they are even 5% off, then I can see us winning this. (If we don't show up - they will smash us, and probably use that confidence heading into the finals to have another successful run)
Yeah dunno what I was thinking with my analysis - wires crossed, hangover, need to throttle the intake a bit - yes there's no way around it, we are the only ones who can kick them out of the 4 next week.

I wonder if a lot of people consider the 4-peat and this game important?'
Wouldn't be that surprised to see 80,000 at the game.
If we win it will totally go down in history just about any time the record is mentioned
- that is asumming the DAwks go on to LOOOOOOOOOOZE the flag.

Winning it in this day and age is a much better achievement than winning it the bloody 1920s.
It's a massive part of our club's history (and the game's history), that we won four in a row. I love to read of their achievements, they helped make the club what it is today.

Just when I think you couldn't possibly look any more ignorant, TG, you manage to pull it off! If you really claim to be a Collingwood supporter and you have no respect for what we did back then, well, I just don't get it!!

Our achievement of the 1920s contributed to our club becoming a powerhouse. It was also the culmination of several decades of hard work, following our establishment in the 1890s. Pies fans should be respectful of that, and should never underestimate what it meant for our club then, and how it has reverberated down through the decades. It is a proud record.

Saying that, if the Hawks match it, it will be an outstanding achievement for them too, and credit where its due.

Sorry Vicky but they will never get any kudos from me. I have hated them and their arrogant supporters for a very long time. Not on a Carlscum level but hate just the same. I know we'll be depleted next week in the forward line but it cheers me up to think that just maybe Clokey will get recalled and he will have more motivation to perform than he's had in a very long time.

I get it PNS. I cant stand the Hawthorn supporters where I sit (MCC members); and I cant stand the sniping style of play and the umpiring ride given to some of their players. But as a club they haven't cheated, and haven't been given handouts by the AFL. I admire them for doing it all themselves.

Late to the party (sorry)

Yes, Hawthorn are smelly and lame. Let's beat them by lots of points.

If we can't be winners, we can be spoilers. Haven't felt this nervous about a "dead rubber" ever.

Their supporters don't even get that excited about winning the premiership.
Their feigned sadness and non-committed-panzy-passion will hopefully turn real come 7pm Sunday.

May they forever orally imbibe our collective phallus's!

How did we become a "powerhouse" we are not a powerhouse today!

Got any stats who was best on in the 1927 Gf? No one could tell you.

1927? No, but the bests and goal kickers were

Best
Collingwood S Coventry, Makeham, Rowe, F Murphy, Clayden, Wilson, Beveridge, H Collier
Richmond B McCormack, Geddes, Hayes, Fincher, Harris, Rudolph, O’Halloran
Goals
Collingwood G Coventry (2)
Richmond Fincher

There are limited stats albeit just the number of kicks available for the 1930 GF though.
