So Grockadock managed to climb up back to level with Shaun who very quickly said piss off and snagged a vote to keep clear for another round. Whilst peterss is quietly moving up the leaderboard, seems like the punters were right about a Gumbies captain but they got the wrong one. While there are more in front of him Larrikin is still just hanging around the top, never count out a duel medal winner.

SFA Season 15 - Round 8

Southern Dragons vs East Side Hawks
Round 8 started with a cracking contest at Dragon Island. SDR burst out of the blocks with a 5 goal first term, only to be blown away in the second by a HARPSichord inspired Hawks outfit, piling on 8 goals 7. Stingy Dragon defense in the 3rd, and persistent scoreboard pressure, saw the home side hang on in a thriller by 2 points. Best for the winners were Gibbsy, Easty and the skipper, LJP86, whilst for the Hawks, HARPSichord was electrifying, and was manfully supported by HawkPatrol and Larrikin

Baghdad Bombers vs The Roys
The next match sees The Roys endure the toughest road-trip in all of fantasy football, travelling to the Middle East for the matchup with Baghdad. after an even first quarter, it was all one way traffic for Baghdad as they secured a comfortable 47 point win. The Bombers had an even spread of contirbutors, with ThePuppetMaster, MannumPower and loopy_cam leading the way. Okeydoke7 managed 3 goals from 10 scoring shots! Best for the Roys were pantskyle, Carn The Roys and Freakie

Geelong Gumbies vs West Coast Wonders
The matchup between eventual Premiers West Coast and eventual spooners Gumbies was not expected to be a close one, but things got interesting early when Geelong slotted the first 3 majors of the match, and had opened up a 21 point lead early in the second term. As was sadly customary this year, the Gumbies faded badly, and the Wonders piled on 8 goals in the 3rd, thanks largely to Wise Guy Sam, who had 3 goals in 5 minutes. In the end, an easy 21 point win to the Wonders. ClarkeM, ShaunDuggan and Drew23 were prominent ball-winners, and 'Wild Thing' DemonJim somewhat found his range for 5.2. Claypigeon, Marklar_33 and Buckets007 were Geelong's best

Mount Buller Demons vs Fighting Furies
The Match Of The Round seemed anything but, as the Furies started the game with 47 unanswered points. Nuffers had drilled 5 goals, 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter. For the last 3 quarters, the contest was an even one, but the early damage told, and the Furies ran out 50 point winners. EagleOz83 was brillaint, and supported ably by FilthyShachez and Cutty, whilst the ruck matchup of Deddy and Tigland was one for the ages. Walker_The_Star also performed well for the Demons

Half way through and we have a surprise leader. Can Shaun hold on to win the double? Grockawho (which btw I think I’ve spelt his name wrong) is still hanging about whilst pre count favourite Wise Guy Sam seems determined to piss his captain off. Word from the bookies is that Eth being the Demons leading vote getter was at 1.06 before the count with 83% of multi’s containing him. Doggiesftw may not get out of the count alive at this rate.

Baghdad Bombers 17.7 (109) def Mount Buller Demons 12.12 (84) @ Snow Dome

Warm conditions greeted these two teams with the 'high' rating of the slippery-o-meter caused by the melting snow expected to give the home team the advantage. A topsy-turvy affair with the Bombers flying out of the blocks only to be over taken by the Demons in the 3rd quarter. A cracking last quarter saw the scores level with less than 12 minutes to play, but a barrage of goals from 3 experienced Bombers, loopy_cam, sausageroll and doggiesin08, coupled with the sealer from their B&F winner this season, ThePuppetMaster, saw the Bombers run out 25 pt winners.

5 behinds in 10 minutes of playing time either side of the 3/4 time siren saw perennial favourite Rhodesy_Blues booed from the field and left to play on his own after the Snowbunnies were
told to stay away from him.

East Side Hawks 15.12 (102) def Roys FFC 14.12 (96) @ Waverley Park

A doozy at Waverley Park with two under performing teams striving to find that spark that had not been evident all season. An even contest early left the Hawks ruing their missed opportunities, while the Roys were just happy they made it to the ground on time. By the main break the Roys had the lead but the Hawks seemed like they were destined to run over the top - and they did. 2 goals in the last 5 minutes from the Roys came all to late, with the Hawks holding on for a 6 pt win

Southern Dragons 13.15 (93) def West Coast Wonders 10.9.(69) @ The Colosseum

It was MOTR at the Colosseum with both teams looking to cement their position. A collosus match up between Ljp86 and @FrothiesMcveigh ensued and it was the highlight of the afternoon. Ljp is the type of leader that steps up when needed, and boy did he do it today. 23 touches, 8 marks and 2 goals saw him dominate for the entire afternoon guiding his side to a comfortable upset victory. He should get the 3 votes in this one.

Fighting Furies 20.16 (136) def Geelong Gumbies 11.7 (73) @ Punt Rd

A crowd of just 43 turned out for this lacklustre affair, with Gumbies' supporters refusing to make the trip up the highway in protest of their team's dismal start to the season, while the
majority of Furies' supporters were seen at their local KFC refusing to miss out on the half priced crispy strips that were on offer that day. Those who turned up wished they hadn't wasted their
afternoon with the skills from both sides resembling a game of KeilorUnder9s. A raft of players are in line for votes in this game, with the Furies' midfielders sharing the ball around.

Well knock me down with a feather, who at the start of the count would’ve predicted a Wonders quinella or any team having the quinella? Seriously twisted count but with 8 rounds to go we still have a long way left. Shaun has seemingly stopped whilst his teammate has rushed on by, Easty is starting to move as is Gilbert Hodge who could be the longest odds winner of the Mobb medal since Mary was a virgin.

ROUND 10

THE WEEK THAT WAS

In a week filled with controversy there were many highlights during this round. The controversialInterview between Easty and Rul through to the machinations of the FlogCutters Topical Week &Replacement of BILC would normally have been big topics.

There were many others though, with Clarkey stirring Ruours of Expansion; followed by Clarkey again somewhat usurping Chez and Broken's effort with The All-Star thread and then an odd turn with Easty launching the idea of a SFA Netball league which was fairly universally panned, even though the suggestion box idea was good. One of the biggest pieces of the week and least controversial, was the anticipated results of the SFA Someday's Mid Season Survey; launched to much joy and applause.

Fittingly the biggest news would come out of the Trade Week. RUL disenchantment with the Dragons was well known however with The Roys unlikely to be able to offer a trade it was looking in doubt. Akkaps, sudden public discontent at the Hawks, started thoughts that the trade most likely to occur would be he and RUL. The Dragons held their ground though and eventually the Hawks Co-captain and League Admin offered his own services to call the Dragons out. Even this juicy trade was drawn out before eventually being confirmed:

Demons started the week with a slide out of the top 4 for the first time in over a season however launched the Pure Blonde Virgin sponsorship. The slide would continue though as the Demons failed to overcome a 6 goal deficit to record a loss to eventual wooden spooners in the Gumbies.

Bombers v Hawks @ Abdu Prison
Bombers, coming off a two game win streak, came in favourites against a wayward Hawks outfit. This unpredictability would see the Hawks jump the Bombers to the tune of a 53 point half time lead. The brave Bombers turned things around in the third quarter but suffered the inaccuracy that his the Hawks in the first half and were really never in the game.

Players to watch
In another strong showing in the ruck veteran Shadow Man should find himself in the top 3. If the lack of accountability is ignored, the match up of Gee Dub and Akkaps (AKA Spakka) could decide the three votes with the latter seeming to do slightly better. Honourable mentions go to a dominant defensive effort from, Bomber, Don Draper and a cracking display from half forwardHARPSiChord.
 
Dragons v Furies @ Dragon Island (MOTR)
This was obviously billed as the match of the round. The Dragons came into this match on the back of a five game winning streak against a rampaging; high scoring; top of the table Furies. This would also see the debut of Boncer as a Dragon, post the mid season trade for RUL.
 
In what turned out to be a surprisingly low scoring affair the Dragons stemmed the tide of a slow start to take a lead into half time. The largest lead of the day was half way 28 points halfway through the 3rd but only managed to scrape over the line by less than two straight kicks.

Players to watch
Somewhat controversially Boncer34 would line up in the midfield for the Dragons and make a good account of himself and shaded one of the Mobbs medal favourites in EagleOz83. While those two could figure in votes, it was the matches of Easty and Gibbsy that got the Dragons over the line though and they'll likely fight each for top honours in this match. Grockadoc is the most likely of the Furies' players to have a chance at the top votes and deserves a vote.
 
Gorillas v Wonders @ Brunswick Junction Oval
Wonders came into this match as near unbackable favourites with their ability to score heavily and quickly. The Roys on the otherhand were struggling with an experienced but aging list. A slow start to the game by the Roys was overcome fairly quickly and they went in as surprising 5 point leaders at the half, despite innacurate kicking. After that is was all downhil for the Wonders and the Roys used their guile to build a lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Wonder would come back to narrow the lead at the final change but left nothing in the tank to overcome the Roys in the last quarter.

Players to watch
Royboy2 played a blinder and the midfield role for debutant Royboy 29, was an inspired move from the Roys and will go a long way to shaping the votes. PVF had the debutant's measure early but moved into defence to stem the flow of goals and this could cost him. Captain ShaunDuggancould split the Royboys in the votes or even trump them especially if the umpires confuse the two lads. A shock move of Cowboyfromhell to the wing could also raise some interest here.
 
Special mention must also go to the other two similarly named Freakie and 3KZ is football while also a nod in the direction of another Mobbs Medal favourite in Wise Guy Sam.
