As our season prematurely draws to a close (yes I know it's still mathematically possible to continue beyond this week... ;)), we have had our POTY award go "in camera"... with results to be announced some time after it's game over for us for 2007. That covers the B&F.

I'd like to propose that this year we add a couple of more awards to the POTY, close along the lines of the "Best Clubman" and the "Beacon Award" - but not exactly the same as those.

We need a name for these awards and I am open to any suggestions as to what to call them. I was thinking something simple like the "Good Guy" award, or the "Trenches" award for the guy who gives his all each and every time he plays a game for this club. He works his arse off and lifts his team-mates to better things, and doesn't drop his head if he's being beaten.

And maybe something to the point like the "Best young fella" award to the guy who has debuted anytime in 2006/2007 and has offered the most in his early games and who looks to have the most potential to be a long-term great player for this club. Eligible players are:

Marcus Drum, Paul Duffield, Adam Campbell (debut 2006)
Robert Warnock, Garrick Ibbotson, Clayton Collard, Andrew Foster (debut 2007)

3-2-1 votes for these awards.

My nominations are:

Good Guy:
3. Solly
2. Belly
1. Grover

Best Young Fella:
3. Warnock
2. Drum

So many things have gone wrong this year, but you take out Macca's gift to Archer and that crazy 10 minutes when we conceded 6 or 7 consecutive third quarter goals to Port and we'd be playing for a home final this week.

How about the C.Y.O'Connor Award?

I believe this is a very valid and relevant award that the Fremantle faithful should adopt A.S.A.P

Here's why I believe this to be true,

C.Y O'Connor was a man who not only shaped the way in which the West Australian state functioned as a state, but also brought life to a community held back by lack of water. It may have taken a bit of time for the water to reach the masses. But eventually it did. Sadly however, may he R.I.P, He jumped ship and as it turns out when the water did come, so did prosperity.

This to me epitomises the Fremantle spirit,

we as Fremantle faithful have all had to endure the slander and incessant comments about acceptance of mediocrity, and how our achievements have been non-existent...And just like C.Y did, with time. Our success will come.

And to this I recommend none other that Happy Gilmore. Who has battled through the years and had had to endure endless criticism but at the end he pulled through by becoming a link towards our overall goal.

I know I embellished a bit but hey, when starting a new award one must give the appropriate induction that’s all.
