yeah that's just reading the flight... semi similar skill (in the sense that it's a intiutive footballers skill. not an athletic, or a technical skill) but reading the flight is easier to execute than reading the play.

someone like scarlett is fantastic at leaving his opponent to create a two-on-one because he knows his direct man (who is now free) is going to get burnt by his teammate. he rarely gets it wrong too.

My understanding is that reading the play in any game just means being experienced enough with tactics and the players and the teams and the way things are unfolding that you sort of intuitively know where things are going to go next.

For example you might know that player X is fond of short kicks, and you can see a player open at a good distance, so there's a good chance that the ball is going to go to him rather than the guy who is further away but perhaps in a better position. Alternatively a player might be a weak kicker so he is looking for a handoff. You can anticipate and preempt the action because you're expecting it.

In rugby players who read play well tend to take a lot of intercepts, and usually aren't fooled by dummies, because they know what's happening before it happens. They also set up good tactical set pieces because they are good at predicting how their opponents will react to certain situations.

Reading the play, in the simplest form, is basically staying one step ahead. It is your ability to anticipate where the ball will go next, or where someone will lead, so you can position yourself to receive the ball / cut off a lead / cut off a pass.

For mine, it is something that cannot be taught, but can be learned over a (usually long) period of time. It is about knowing how your team mates play, working out how an opposition plays, and knowing general trends of ball / player movement. Very much applicable to all ball sports.

eg: A "3rd man up" type defender knowing when to zone off his direct opponent to effect a spoil

why is it that 4chan boards are so popular??

the design is one of the most un-user-friendly i've seen.

and because the vast majority of people just post anonymously it's generally just full of people attacking each other all day long.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4chan

http://www.4chan.org

it's the biggest forum site on the internet. i've never posted. i first found out about it about 5 years ago and was thinking "this could be interesting" but i just found it completely unusable.

i understand why they have so much influence because of the sheer volume of users. their /b/ board alone is nearing it's 300 millionth post... and that's just one of about 50 different boards they have..... as something very recent they have been reported as being behind the attack on the playstation network over the weekend though it's only rumour at this stage.

but i don't understand how so many people can put it with such an un-user-friendly web-site which has so much pointless flaming. i hardly read it but on the few times i have i've yet to read a thread that has any decent converstaion.

pretty much every thread denegrates into "OP is a ******" by about the 10th post.

and the layout on the web-site is beyond ****ed.

It's an image board forum. Amongst all the crap you will see on /b/ every now and then you will come across a brilliant thread. Most of the threads on this forum (GD) would have been done 100 times already on 4chan and done better. Trollface, notsureifserious and all meme's in general originated here. World wide hackings, trollings and stalkings occur, it really is a powerful forum, most of the users are incredibly intelligent.

Do not release any personal information! 20 pizzas and a stripper will bet at your door in 10 minutes. This is why the anonymous function is liked by the community. Nobody can be tracked.

So if I don't like someone...

My experience precisely. Maybe I'm just too old to be ****ed with that sort of time-wasting any more.

I was thinking that. Go on. Post as a n00b. Show photos of your enemy with a car, with the number plate not blacked out. Get into a fight. Provoke a search. Watch as your enemy gets hunted down and destroyed.

Could work. Damn I wish I had an enemy.

All you would have to do is ask, there would be ten people willing to do so. :o:D

Be careful when posting images as well, they can un-photosop and un-paint edits. So if you black out certain things people know how to undo the changes. I've seen some crazy shit go down there.

on jpegs and gifs?? didn't even know that was possible.

on psd and pdd's it's all kept in the history of the file/image but i don't know why anyone would upload those files to the internet as their huge.

Mmm 4chan looks like the place to be.

Seriously I went on that site once and just had no idea WTF was going on. I found this magical /B/ board and I really couldn't work out where all the action was? There was boobs and bums but really nothing epic. No threads are named and it took me about an hour before I even realized where the threads were and how to actually open them.

that asian dudes at 1.32 in the vid looks like it's the first time they've ever seen a female in true human form :p

1. What does 'top heavy' mean when it comes to australian football? A team's list is too old?

2. What is the legal reasoning (in concise lamen's terms) behind a person in a divorce (usually a woman, but also a man) that makes considerably less money than the other being able to effectively rape that other person of such large amounts of cash (with or without children). You know, the cases we all too often see that have us shaking our heads in disbelief. There must surely be some logical reasoning behind this, whether we agree with it or not, and I would like to be made aware of it, preferably by someone that has studied law.

Top heavy depends on the situation. It could mean they have to many talls or to many of a particular type of player in an area on the ground.

Basically (searching the memory banks here) the Court considers three things:

1) what are the value of the assets of the marriage
2) what were the two parties' contributions to those assets (financial and non-financial)
3) what are the future financial prospects of each of the parties

(2) takes into account (for example) the value of a wife who takes care of the home, raises kids, etc. and thus allows the man freer scope to be the breadwinner.

(3) acknowledges (for example) that the wife may have a lower earning capacity than the husband due to giving up work, and may have additional financial burdens such as looking after children or aged relatives. If one of the parties is older and closer to retirement age, that will also count.

This criteria - (3) - is the overriding concern. The court is less interested in the fact that one party contributed the salary of a social worker and the other the salary of a CEO than they are with ensuring both parties have a reasonable standard of living moving forward.

This is why you often see unbalanced asset distribution when one party is a high earner - because while the CEO may have contributed more financially to the marriage, they also have a far greater earning potential to replace that wealth.

but why should the lower earner be ensured to have a greater standard of living moving forward when it would've been poorer anyway had they not met the higher earner in the first place (assuming higher earner is financially taking care of the kids or if there are no kids at all)?

good post by the way and cheers to hbg and sdh.

I'm not really knowledgeable about the legal philosophy behind family law, but I would say it probably has a lot to do with the court not being in the business of engaging in hypotheticals.

Who would have done what or married whom and earned how much money if they hadn't met each other is a pretty shady business to start speculating about. For all anyone knows the lower earner may have missed the chance to marry a billionaire, been better off and remained wonderfully in love for the rest of their lives.

The brief of the court is a lot more straightforward - simply to arrange a post-marital settlement that enables both parties to continue to live their current lives as best they can going forward*.

*I should point out that relative contributions to the assets of the marriage do count for something in property settlements - they're just not the sole or overriding factor.

A perfect example was Essendon in the first quarter of the ANZAC Day game.

We had Crameri, Ryder, Hille, Hurley and Monfries up forward, and every time the ball hit the deck, Collingwood's smaller defence was able to rebound it easily.

It's not so much a numerical thing (we had Crameri, Ryder, Hille and Monfries there yesterday, and it functioned fine) as a result/gameplay type thing.
