When the film "Independence Day" came out, why was it always referred to as "ID4"?

Independence Day July 4

The "J" not important enough to get a mention?

So why didn't they just call the film "ID4", since that was what they called it in all their marketing and promotion? It took me quite a while to realise which film they were talking about.

Incidentally, did the term ID4 get used in the movie itself? I don't remember it, but I don't think I ever saw the whole thing.

According to wikipedia

It was at Wendover Airport where Pullman filmed his pre-battle speech. Immediately before filming the scene, Devlin and Pullman decided to add "Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!" to the end of the speech. At the time, the production was nicknamed "ID4" because Warner Bros. owned the rights to the title Independence Day, and Devlin had hoped if Fox executives noticed the addition in dailies, the impact of the new dialogue would help them win the rights to the title.[7] The right to use the title was eventually won two weeks later

I guess that's why they only used ID4 as a promo tag

How do zips work?

The teeth are arranged in an alternating pattern, with a slider attached to the outside of each row of teeth. When you pull the slider along the rows of teeth, the slider interlocks the teeth.

On a side note, you may have noticed that a lot of zips have the letters YKK on them. YKK stands for Yoshida Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha, they are world's largest manufacturer of zippers.

OMG

Mind = Blown

Can someone explain to me how the 2 hour met ticket works? I've always had a yearly and only recently started to buy 2 hours and such. Today I bought one at 11.51, and it said it would expire at 2. I validated my ticket and boarded a train at about 1.40 when it was still valid but by the time my trip had finished it had expired. If an inspector had got on the train at 2.01, would I be fined?

Similarly, if I needed to catch another train from Flinders, how would I board with a valid ticket, or even get out of the station? I'm under the impression you can't buy a ticket once you're actually inside the station.

So I bought a new pair of sneakers a few weeks ago and for some reason the shoe laces on both feet kept coming undone. One time it'd constantly be the left shoe, another time it'd be the right, then occasionally it'd be both. It was really driving me up the wall so I went googling for a solution and alas, I found one.

Turns out all I needed to do was change the way I was doing the laces up, instead of going "left lace over right" I went "right lace over left" and Voila, they don't come undone anymore.

Just thought I'd tell this quite boring story in the hope that it helps people in the future.

4chan is second.

Gaia online (?) is apparently the biggest, and by a margin

http://www.big-boards.com/
Herp derp dude 2channel isn't even listed on that site as it ranks predominantly English language forums (does not even have a Japanese language option).

Bigboards has gaiaonline's number of posts at 1.9 billion. 2channel had nearly 1 billion posts in 2007 alone (and averages approx 500-600 million page impressions per month). In fact there are times when there are more people using 2channel, than combined TV viewer ship across the entirety of Japan.

2channel is generally regarded as the largest forum in the world if you count by post number. There are also a few Chinese language forums which generate a 1 million+ posts per day.

If you go by page impressions, then 4chan is the largest English language forum in the world.

If you go by users, gaiaonline is the largest English language forum. Probably the worlds largest as imageboards such as 2channel and 4chan allow anonymous posting.

Whilst this is greatly off topic, to give you an idea of the sheer volume of traffic that happens on the site: http://stats.2ch.net/suzume.cgi?yes

Yesterday there were 2.66 million posts.

Look at the bottom graph for the year: http://pv.40.kg/suzume/

Some periods the post count climbs as high as 3000-4000k per day (3-4 million).

The forum has been operational since 1999 I think.

It is possibly the most powerful mass media device in Japan, far more than any paper or TV station(s).

How do MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship compare to each other? I get the impression that MotoGP is the blue ribbon competition but is the quality/prestige that much different? What are the main differences with the bikes?

MotoGP is for purpose built race bikes not available for sale. SBK is for race going bikes that are modified for racing. It's similar to comparing F1 to touring cars (Not V8 Supercars which these days is a series very loosely based on road going models) in terms of cars and status in motorsport.

FYI I have zero interest whatsoever in any form of motorcycle racing, so I don't really need that information (accurate or otherwise) in my brain...

Is it possible to read a 450 page book in a day?

Easily. I read a 700 page book on a 17 hour flight between Melbourne and LA a couple of years ago.

You sure about that brah?

Thought that was 2 channel, the Japanese image board that 4chan is based on.

To be pedantic your not entirely correct.

The original 2 channel is the most used website in the world.

However 4chan is based on 2ch and not 2 channel.

Bought a basketball jersey off Ebay from Asia. Jersey was shipped using a company called jet-ship whose website has since disappered (I've got a tracking number).

Have I been stitched up by a sneaky Asian scam?

You should be able to open a dispute with paypal if the item doesn't turn up. First try contacting the seller, and if they don't reply then you should be able to make a claim. I've done it before when a t shirt didn't turn up and got a full refund, eventually.

What does the edge of the universe look like?

Surely if space is expanding, then it would need something to expand into...WTF is that??
