Then what are the numerous clowns that put "Jedi", "Collingwood" or some other rubbish in the religion column trying to achieve? They're usually the ones who are making the fuss about the question in the first place.
It's possible that they don't realise what the census data is actually used for. If they realised that the religion data was used as a basis for funding of religious organisations, maybe they would think twice about giving a stupid answer like "Jedi". I never put much thought into it when I did my first census (I think I still marked "no religion"), but this time I was much more informed so I saw the value in being honest with my religious status.
