I would love to see the old FFC guernsey - ie the red & blue jumper with yellow letters on the front.

Maybe they could do this with the letters BL on the front in yellow.

Let's say they adopted the FFC jumper under this new AFL initiative. It DOESN'T mean they will be wearing the jumper in Melbourne.

Keep the perspective people. The whole request for clubs to design an away strip, is not for it to be worn for all away games.

It is ONLY worn when the 'away' team clashes with the 'home' teams colours. Teams will be wearing their 'regular' jumper for all other away games.

How many teams do we clash with?

From the sound of things, it's not going to matter anyway. It seems as though the AFL will be pushing for ALL clubs to have away jumpers.

It makes sense, on a commercial level. Most people will want to have both jumpers . . .

I don't know whether the Lions will use the Fitzroy jumper for away games. It's not really 'that' much of a change, after all.

I reckon they should just look at having a different strip, perhaps with the same colours, but a different design.

This time, the SHOULD put an FFC on the back of the thing. It only has to be a small one. And I have no objection if they want to put a BB there as well.

I've got a friend, who's a top graphic artist. Perhaps I should get him to do a few things . . .

I don't know about that Danni. That's what they say 'now', but I reckon for the purposes of commercial interest (ie: selling as much merchandise as possible), the might end up enforcing a rule that teams wear a home, and also an away jumper for the appropriate games, EVERY week.

After all, they've had the rule with the shorts for years now. I reckon they're just as likely to push that over to the jumpers.

I know I'd go out an buy a second Lions jumper, if one was made (unless if was totally ugly).

Let's just hope they get it right. A nice combintation of our colours, in a different design, along with a small FFC on the back (and a BB too, if it's what people want).

Maverick fancies...

Awww c'mon, Mav! One of the advantages BL has over Fitzroy (sacrilege! ) is that maroon jumper. Remember the Roys song: "We wear the colours maroon and blue". None of this poncey red nonsense! Leave that for Olmy and his comrades down at the VAFA! :p

If we need to have an alternative strip for an away game or two, just keep the current design and do a switcheroo with the colours.

I reckon the Red looks better than the Maroon. But that's a different matter, anyway.

They should just design a nice jumper, with the same colours, different design, with an FFC (and a BB, for Brad Boyd).

Instead of the Fitzroy jumper, why don't Brisbane wear the Fitzroy pre-season jumper from 1995-1996 as their away strip, but in maroon, blue and gold.

This was a great design and I felt that it should have replaced the old FFC jumper at the time, which was looking pretty tired by that time.

You might have to make a few alterations, like replacing the parts that are in red to maroon, but I reckon that Brisbane are on a winner on this if they implnment it, i reckon that it will sell like mad and also it's would look different as well.

Ok if the AFL enforces the rule that away jumpers must be worn at all away games, there is inevitably going to be more colour clashes. With 16 teams, one teams away jumper is going to clash with another teams home jumper.

And about having FFC on the back, that is not going to happen, because the club is now called the Brisbane Lions! If they were to put FFC on the back, then they would need to incorporate Brisbane Bears as well, because after all it is a combination of the two clubs. But you say Brisbane is already part of the clubs name, but so is the Lions!

i think that the other names have been dropped so there isn't any jelousy. If FFC was put on the jumper, then the bears fans would compalin, and If the BB was put on the jumper, Fitzroy fans would complain.

Both clubs have merged and moved on, I think its time to forget about the Fitzroy lions and Brisbane Bears and look at what the club is today: THE MIGHTY BRISBANE LIONS!!!!

Go guys!

FJD - that is a different situation - they are essentially the same team, just a name change for marketing purposes. Different kettle of fish.

I think this is a no win situation for the Lions. There is nothing they are going to be able to do in relation to adding a 'Fitzroy' to the name, or an FFC to the jumper - or not - that is going to please the masses.

There is also very little chance of having this resolved by the members.

From the Fitzroy perspective, they would love to see the 'Fitzroy' in the name, the old jumper, the FFC on the back of the jumper etc etc etc.

The Club is not going to do this off their own bat, for fear of alienating more ppl than it will appease, and because it would be a sign of defeat in all their efforts to have the Brisbane Lions recognised as a 'new' team, not the Bears or Fitzroy.

A members vote is the only way it could be forseen IMO. But at present, there aren't anywhere near the numbers to have it change. And those people that could make up those numbers, present a good case, and possibly even bring about the changes they so desperately want, don't have the power to vote.

On emotion or principal or whatever the reason, they haven't become members of the Brisbane Lions, because the Brisbane Lions don't have those said things that would make them feel like they belong.

Catch 22, if you ask me.

In todays Sunday Mail, Peter Blucher said we have asked Russell Athletic to design an away jumper for us to comply with the wishes of the AFL. It also said we had a jumper that was new, so we wanted to consolidate that jumper.
I think if we have to have a new jumper. Let shave a bold coloured jumper, with both historical logos on it.

Hmm. We don't know that it's "not" going to happen, Joshem. It's definitely a relevant issue for starters, and something which the club has obviously considered to some extent. To blatantly disregard the suggestion of having a small FFC on the back of the jumper, shows a total lack of regard for the issues that surround the Victorian supporter base, and also the building of one.

To say that both clubs have merged and moved on, is not 'entirely' accurate. In any regard, the effort to establish a long-term supporter base in Victoria is an on-going process, which may include initiatives such as this one.

IMO, I'd love to see an FFC on the jumper, and so would many others. Some of these people aren't even Fitzroy supporters - rather they see the sense in the suggestion. For the record, I also have no problem, in fact, I encourage the addition of a BB, or similar ensign to match the FFC symbol.

IMO, it's important that the history of our club is remembered, and also promoted. IMO, it's the people who were Bears and Fitzroy supporters back in 1996 who the club should be looking out for first. You can't tell me, that to the majority of these people, that the club they supported previously isn't still important to them. Certainly, recognising this on the jumper is a great way of honouring this.

Perhaps it is already being done, to a certain extent, however, increasing this recognition is not necessarily a bad thing. Certainly in the case of most Victorian supporters, it would be seen as a great initiative, and one which would have the potential to convince more people to join the Lions, as supporters.

True, we are the Brisbane Lions, but IMO, it's also important to honour the past, in an appropriate way, to incorporate as many supporters as possible. It's certainly not a case of "moving on", as some would put it (much to the annoyance of many supporters).

Certainly in the case of Victoria, I believe the building of a supporter base is an on-going process. Events such as the Fitzroy TOC, help to give the Brisbane Lions a profile as being "Fitzroy friendly" amongst Fitzroy supporters (although, it would also be nice if they swallowed that debt, that apparently they can hold over Fitzroy
 Just as it would be also nice the the BL's could have more of an involvement with the current Fitzroy ventures, and vice-versa). Similarly, the adoption of a small FFC logo, perhaps on an away jumper, would be a way of increasing the appeal of the club to Fitzroy supporters.

I hardly think that people would be jealous, if a BB was added to the equation, either.

I'm not saying that the club has to adopt every suggestion that is bought up by people, at different stages, however, this suggestion certainly seems to have the support of most people I have talked to (both Bears and Fitzroy supporters), and is certainly within the grounds of a "reasonable" venture, IMO.
