Thought a thread discussing some cool things that bands do while performing on stage would be worthwhile. Have you been present at a concert and seen a band do something pretty awesome while on stage?

For me, German heavy-metal band Rammstein are one of the best performers in the world, with their pyrotechnics extremely impressive and dangerous.

Also, it happens a lot but Avenged Sevenfold usually pick someone out of the crowd to sing a certain song which is pretty good, while Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington once broke his wrist on stage performing in Melbourne (I think) but played out the remainder of the song. What antics have you seen, whether in person or on Youtube or wherever?

I don't even know any of Angelfold Seven's music but that was gold.

EDIT: just reread and realised the band's name is Avenged Sevenfold.

Makes me feel a bit like "Homer, I can honestly say that was the best episode of Impy & Chimpy I've ever seen."

Best thing I've seen a band do on stage was Tool on the Lateralus tour in 2002 where they got alien creatures from their videos to crawl on stage and do acrobatics Cirque du Soleil style. It freaked the whole crowd out, who were probably either stoned or tripping anyway and Tool just kept chugging away playing music like it was all completely normal. Surreal experience.

From memory it happened during this song.

Hell yeah, that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen the other year at the BDO. I'd had a massive day, and was just about ready to go home I reckon. We were sitting way, way up the back on some grass so couldn't see much. All of a sudden, just about everyone started moving closer for some reason. I popped my head up and was thinking "WTF, is that guy blowing fire out of his face?". Wasn't until he did it again and I could see it properly up on the big screen.

My mates couldn't be stuffed, so I went up a bit closer by myself. Got about 50m from the stage and could even feel the warmth from the fire from that far back. I'd hate to see how hot it is on stage. Further into the set it got even crazier, with a dude running around on fire on stage, massive dick shooting out foam I think it was, and just absolutely nuts fire shooting from the stage. Best bit though was when they shot out these rocket firework things above the crowd, and then from a tower in the middle of the crowd some others come flying back towards the stage. Was totally unexpected, crowd went nuts and I reckon I gave out 50 high fives when that happened. They had an awesome light show too, shame it wasn't completely dark the whole time. The keyboardist playing pretty much the whole set while running on a treadmill was cool too.

I'd never really heard any of their music before, or been into that sort of stuff, but after seeing that I've bought a couple of their albums. Love the style they play - fairly heavy metal with a bit of electro stuff in the background... Not sure what you'd call it.

Only downer about that night was Tool played afterwards and it was so bloody boring. Would have been amazing if Rammstein played their whole set in the dark, rather than there being sunlight for half of it.

Edit: Here's the firework thing. Can't really find a good version of it. I was at the Melbourne show, I think the tower was a little further back in the crowd. It's at about 2:15

Boring for me as I'm not really their biggest fan (I don't mind them at all though), and boring because I was just blown away by what Rammstein just did. Tool just had visualisations playing on the screen and a few flashing lights. There may have been some lasers too, but whatever. Maybe their other shows are better, but I'm just comparing it to what I seen that day.

Tool are better if you go to their own shows rather than festivals, they usually reward the true hardcore fans at their own shows by doing something freaky.

It's mainly about the music for me though rather than the stage antics and Tool deliver on the music front live.

Rammstein might be good at producing fireworks but they haven't produced an album as good as Aenima.

I got up on stage with Violent Soho recently and sang Muscle Junkie..
Rammstein as stated above are great live, when they played BDO in 2011 with Tool, in Adelaide they came out during Lateralus and destroyed Tool's set which was pretty cool.
Im pretty sure at No Sleep Til in 2010 the singer from Parkway Drive got in an inflatable boat and crowd surfed in it but I can't remember very clearly.
Gwar put on a hell of a spectacle as well.

Good call OP.
Thought of Rammstein as soon as I saw thread title.
Every other stage act pales into comparison.
Not sure if anyone's seen their act for Buch dich live

You'd be very hard pressed to find a stage show that eclipses Rammstein's. Amazing on all fronts.

Slipknot usually goes alright too. Plenty of pyros, and during Spit It Out, Joey's drum kit elevates and rotates. About 7:10 on here,
