Re: imagine rocca, rusling, thomas, burns, didak and shaw all being available.

Imagine if the following players were still fit and playing:

Davey, Lucas, Fletcher, Hille, Lloyd, McVeigh, Watson, Houli, Dempsey, McPhee, Welsh, Winderlich

Injuries happen. Deal with it.

deal with it, as in.....get over it and push on to still make the finals??

Re: imagine rocca, rusling, thomas, burns, didak and shaw all being available.

not to mention buckley and clement!!!:D

sorry if this thread is just ridiculous to everyone else...
i just need something to cheer me up

and the line up we'll have next year, with the bonus of cousins, will allow us to win the games we should, finish top four, and prevent the cats from making it three in a row.

cant wait.

You said it, because it is. Just keep on dreamin and join all the other pie dreaming supporters who are happy and content to settle for 1 game away from top 4 to a dive bomb to 8th and 1st final interstate. Wow wee yippee!

You gave Buckley a great send off.

Our kids pushed themselves to the brink and went down gallantly by 5 points against the eventual premier. Your kids rolled over and died, one of the most disgraceful performances I have ever seen. If thst's the future of the Essendon Football Club I would be worried.:(:D

Most disgraceful performance I saw by the 'proud' Collingwood Football Club was on the 26th of July.

If our future is dire, what does that say about Collingwood

You musn't have seen our games against or Carlton or Fremantle then, they were much much worse. Still, not as bad as a 108 point thumping by the hands of St Kilda. Our instant future involves a finals series.

Where you'll be gone after the first round.

I kinda feel sorry for Collingwood, it's clear they need a rebuild and will have to suffer with late picks due to all the top talent going to the Gold Coast or West Sydney.

one club is gearing up for september action this year, the other is recovering from a big night last night.....

i know where id rather be.

You gave Buckley a great send off.

that's right we did give the great man a great send off. the pies gave their absolute all and then a bit more in the prelim last year v perhaps the best side of all time and came up 5 pts short. a fitting effort and tribute from buckley's teammates

the essendon effort yesterday was pitiful. how any of those blokes could look the retirees in the eye after the game is beyond me. looked like they had started 'mad sunday' rather than 'mad monday'. to look non-interested in what should have been such an emoition charged game was a disgrace to the jumper of what has been a very proud and powerful football club

How do you Collingwood supporters rate your young players coming through? Can they replace Burns, O'Bree and Lockyer when they depart?

Should be a good game this weekend, with both clubs taking in youth into the finals.

Crows Youngsters
-Vince, Mackay, Douglas, Tippett, Knights

Collingwoods Youngsters
-Dawes, McCarthy, Stanly, Cook, Cox

Will be an interesting battle..

this is the area we are lacking, a replacement for our clearance specialist.

- Pendles is not an inside player although he is improving his contested possession game
- Thomas not yet playing full time mid, but when he does he can win his own ball,
- Mccarthey is a very likely type. seems to love fighting for the ball, good speed, very impressed with his decision making and kicking. I think he'll make it
- Stanley has been earmarked for a burns replacement. can win his own ball but he has been on our list for 3 years and only played 4 games. sadly it may be a case of brilliant in vfl but cant take the next step up to afl. because in vfl his kicking is great and wins plenty of the ball
- Cook has great endurance and could be better used as a tagger. but also, 3 years for something like 5 games.
- Clarke - not used as a fulltime mid but i think he will move there in the future.

but yeh, we are lacking depth in genuine prospects for these hard, inside mid types. we have depth in young talls, eg anthony, dawes, reid, cloke, brown, goldsack ... but for this draft we really must focus on the middle now.

Lucky for us the Goodwin, Edwards, Mcleod and those older heads have been replaced already. Collingwood could really do with Kerr or Cousins..if not i think the Pies will struggle next year.

Pretty happy with our youngsters, but we need to find a replacement for Burns ASAP, a tough, hard at it inside mid who can get clearances is our biggest problem. McCarthy looks the goods, but isn't really that type of player. Stanley may be the answer, although he hasn't really shown a lot at AFL level yet, and I'm not sure about Cook either.

Our forward line looks ok, Dawes and Reid have shown a little but have a way to go yet. Rusling has shown some good form, but unfortunately struggles to stay on the field.

Overall our future looks fairly bright, should be a good game this weekend, hopefully some of our youngsters stand up like they did in the finals last year. :thumbsu:

that list of our youngsters barely tells half the story.

add to that Brown, maybe wellingham, anthony, pendlebury, clarke, goldsack, maybe thomas, maybe toovey, maybe wood and obrien. all of these playesr are 21 and under.

As for coping once burns/obree/lockyer move on - o'bree and lockyer still have a couple of years in them - and neither play a vital part in the side. O'bree is important as he's one of our only in an under clearance players, but IMO he's not too good at this anyway.

Burns will be missed for the same reason as o'bree, except that he's better at it, and of course for his leadership.

Leadership is a problem for us with such a young side and so few elder players - which is why we've put in some pitiful performances like last week. hopefully once burns moves on there'll be 2-3 players ready to fill the void - Hopefully Cloke, Pendlebury, O'Brien will be leadership material.

In fairness to us, we've got a lot more youngsters going into this match. Vince is 22, so by that definition we have: Cox, O'Brien, Pendlebury, Thomas, Cloke, Goldsack, Cook, Stanley, Clarke, Anthony, Dawes, Brown and McCarthy. That's 13 players. And Wood will probably come in for Bryan, which will make it 14.

But yes, it will be an interesting battle. I think the Crows will probably get up. If we don't get Burnsy back, we will get smashed in the clearances again, and I can't see us winning.

I wouldn't be too confident if you're relying on Wood and Obrien to carry out ruck duties for the next few years. Toovey and Goldsack are questionable....but Pendlebury and Thomas will dominate in future years. Not a bad list by all means but definately lacking a couple of good quality young players coming through.

Well O'Brien certainly won't be carrying out the ruck duties, I'm guessing you meant Chris Bryan ;). We do probably need another ruck as Bryan isn't really up to the job, but I'm fairly confident Wood will come on and be a good player.

Goldsack will be ok, a good servicable player down back, Toovey probably not. We have Wellingham and McCarthy looking like they could become decent mids, as well as Thomas and Clarke to spend more time in the middle to support Swan, Pendlebury, Didak etc. Just lacking a couple more quality mids.

I don't think it should be hard to find replacements for Lockyer and in particular O'Bree. Run of the mill midfielders the ladder it would be good to find youngsters of decent quality that can push him out of the side.

Tells you they have a dad's army midfield with nothing coming through to replace them to be honest. Not to mention no decent ruck prospects.

Collingwood centre line is in big trouble imo RIG.

Well done today Collingwood ....
However your finals campaign will come to an end next week against the more superior Cats or Saints...
