I put up with it for three or four years - I didn't hate it, but I could only ever last a few hours before I got bored. Also, since I'm 6'5" I was always head and shoulders above everyone else on the dance floor, which made me pretty self conscious.

Prefer to go to a good pub with a good band any night of the week.

it seems the majority of you dislike the clubbing scene, is this too do with the people you hang around or your personal dislike

I've never liked them, but my friends rarely go to clubs these days either. My main reasons for hating them are the loud, rubbish music that they play...and you don't even get the normal moment of peace between songs ('but DG, that's what DJs are for!' as my friends remind me), seedy guys and stupid girls taking their photos/hugging/socialising in the freaking bathrooms. They're hot, sticky, expensive and you can't hold a decent conversation unless you go outside to the beer garden, where you have to breathe in cigarette smoke, because apparently every second 18-23 year old missed all the health warnings that have been present our whole lives. I'm also not much of a dancer, although I'm not sure that you'd call what goes on in clubs dancing...

All extremely good, valid points.

My main reason for hating them is that beeping bullshit they call 'music'. How anyone could like that crap is beyond me*

*Not including people on acid.

Nightclubs are shit, I renewed my love for them overseas but in Australia, it's more to hit on girls. The scene is shit, shit blokes everywhere, power tripping bouncers and overpriced drinks.

Another issue with nightclubs is obnoxious, drunken ****wits looking for trouble. Whilst I give them a wide berth and haven't had any run-ins with them (on the few occasions I have actually gone to a nightclub), it is irritating seeing them starting fights and carrying on like massive w***ers.
Anyway, back on topic. Being shy and/or introverted does not necessarily equate to being 'awkward'. I'm pretty quiet and would definitely be the most shy and introverted of my group of mates, however I don't see myself as being very awkward (I am to some extent, but not overly).
As for awkward mates, many of mine are to some extent, but there is one that stands out. This mate always tries to bring up inappropriate topics in public (often sex, which he discusses a lot for a virgin), usually comes off as inappropriate/offensive to others, adds random FB chicks almost daily, and is right into bodybuilding/supplements despite weighing 80kg at 6' 3" (he'd constantly ask me if he was getting 'bigger' and if I thought he could pull lots of chicks).
We aren't close mates anymore though as he moved to Melbourne around 6 months ago and we don't really keep in touch. He also began a lot of arguments with others and burnt a fair few bridges with mates of mine (even wanted to fight one of them) and so several of us have pretty much wiped the floor with him.

Got one, huge anger management issues, goes quiet around girls, non-stop bags the others for haning out with girls, virgin, talks non-stop about sex.

One of my best mates:)
