My son had the query about the names of the different awards! And he and I woudl love to know!!!

As for the Adelaide award - do you think it will still be called that after Blight is now residing in Qld???

Collingwoods Is Called The Copeland trophy.
Melbournes Is Called The Keith Bluey Trustcott Club champion Award.
Carltons Is Called the Robert Reynolds trophy.
WCE - West coast Eagles Club champion (probably Called That cause they have no Tradtional Heroes Name to use).

I think our club champion award should be called The John Worsfold Club Champion Award.
Its better than just the eagles club champion award and who better to name it after than our inspirational leader and future coach

I think the Hawthorn Award is named after Peter Crimmins.

It's an interesting story (short version) he was a very good rover who died young from cancer in the Eighties (I think)
His boots and No5 guernsey have pride of place in the trophy cabinet at glenferrie.

Peter Crimmins died in 1976 shortly after the Hawks beat North in that year's Grand Final. The #5 jumper was retired until his children grew up because the Hawks hoped that one of them could take thier father's number. But the Crimmins family asked that the jumper be brought out of retirement and it was given to Harford (?).

The North best and fairest is called the Syd Barker trophy.

Yes, was a very sad time. When it became clear that neither Ben or Sam (Peters sons) would make it to (then) VFL level the jumper was presented to Andy Collins who had idolised Crimmins as a kid. He said it was his greatest honour. When 'Pills Collins retired the number was given to Harford.

Peter died the monday after the 76 GF. Its called Crimmos flag. The players who played that day said that would win it for Peter and a group of them went around to his house that night and shared the celebration of the win with him. There is a wonderful picture of a very ill man, with the 1976 premiership cup and a group of his close teamates. I think it was the last photo ever taken of him.
Part of me always thinks the club should have retired the jumper forever but I guess you cant always live in the past.
I havent really thought about 'Meggsy' much of recent years and I guess some people dont even know who he is, still even though this thread isnt about him, his name did come up and I just thought it worthwhile to talk about him for a bit.

Thanks Shinboners and Pess for helping me to remember someone I truly loved as I was growing up.

Grendel.
