GR- martinov, not in best or in goals...did he play>?
Martinov killed his opponent but once again bad kicking spoilt his day, 5 behinds and a couple out on the full.
Its funny who clubs put in their best as Hendrie was probably in the best five on the ground and got the award fron Ormond at the aftermatch, but never rated a mention in OC's best.
Its funny how these clubs who recruit ex AFL players cannot get them to go and watch their team play when their out injured.

were u at the game yesterday brian?

No Murph, I was down on the Peninsula so I ducked up to Haileybury College to watch SKC win a very important game.

I like how you selectively chose the 'cant stand them quote', not the one a few posts later where I actually said you were good blokes.
Did Luke Williams or any of SKOB's 9 VFL listed guys play yesterday?

Who cares about St Kevin's Brian, me thinks OT will smash them this week, they are pretenders. We should have won on the weekend except for some bad luck and poor umpiring.

Iezzi is unstoppable as is Rambo, big Jack Healy, 'Cults', Scotty K, the list goes on.
SKOB can't play large ovals and are going no-where this year...OT by 50 plus.

Dear FTE,

If the failing fortunes of your favorite footy team is keeping you awake at 3am and you feel the urge to post on BF, at least get your facts right.

1. OTs actually won the game
2. Cults, Iezzi and Krakouer didn't play
3. I live in McCrae, not Elwood.

Cheers

Fraser

McCrae! What a great part of the world!

My footy teams are all travelling very well.

OT's shooting for 5 in a row this week!

Certainly is FTE, just a hop, skip and jump down the road from Brianspeaking's palatial Martha Cove weekender too!

All the classy BF posters frequent that neck of the woods.

Best part of the Peninsula Frase, most of the nufties head to Sorrento for their day trips on weekends to clog up the main street doing burnouts and miss our little part of paradise.

You invested in a kayak yet?

FraserThe Expert has issues......

Fair call, but it's also only an uninterrupted 25 minutes drive from the Funkytown (Frankston) Magistrates' Court.

I've always preferred Frankghanistan, Frase.

Good win by the Rovers on the weekend. OH exposed our boys for height, but we looked to have them covered for run, finishing off the game a little stronger. Kudos to their boys for sticking around for a beer afterwards.:thumbsu:

Chris Mitchell, the less talented, Dean Waugh of the Mitchell family, the Brett Voss of the family...at least get my name right!!!
Well done on the weekend, great win for the poorer Christian Brother Cousins.

Bit rich potting an A section premiership player about his talent isn’t it NICK? I’d suggest the kind of person Chris is he would happily be known as less talented than a brother who could quite possibly end up on an AFL list within the next few years.

How many A section premierships have you featured in NICK? Don’t go potting blokes football talent when you don’t have any or have never had any yourself. But hey, for a less talented bloke he sure showed your beloved SKOBS a thing or two on Saturday.

And id suggest you keep watching the school side run around on a Saturday, as according to the SKOB boys on Saturday night that hung around for a beer, your not sorely missed when you don’t attend the old boys matches.

Shit, an old boy from St Bernards who can string three paragraphs together, and a Carlton supporter to boot! We've hit he jackpot!!!

I don't think Chris Griffin needs you to fight his battles Cleo, he can well and truly give and take on this forum of fun.

By the way, why must you post in a different font to all of us 'normal' posters? I love it when a newbie comes from the shadows, you have no credibility yet girlfriend.

Run along now to the salubrious suburbs of Ascot Vale, who knows, you may see another 'hit' this afternoon. Gotta love Ascot Vale.

Well done to all the skob people who stayed around for quite a while for a beer on saturday after the game, great bunch of blokes.

Brain, I think u gave the boy a little bit of something extra to play for with some of your comments last week. After 14 marks and 5 goals, he gets the chocolates me thinks...

ps: RIP Desmond "tuppence" Moran

I think Old Haileybury might rue the loss to the Rovers at Boss James Reserve yesterday as a very costly one, especially when we go into Round 18, and the fight for relegation.

Just another piece of the Rue-Pie Jas.

The loss against Old Carey put them on the ropes and the pillars of the marquee in Loewe (2 games), Harvey (2 Games) & Brown (4 Games) have rocked their foundations. Playing a couple of good young kids though who may be able to turn things around through experience in the 2nd half especially against the other non-4 clubs.

Apparently a round of upsets.

It is interesting to know that if you took Freebaser's tips every week and tipped the exact opposite, you would be leading the competition...

Do you guys on BigFooty think the decision to have Robert Harvey and Stewart Loewe play for Old Haileybury is a mistake, and instead should have played the younger guys on the list?

This point has been debated ad nauseam on this forum. Now i"ll put my two cents in...

Any club with the opportunity to recruit Stweart Loewe and Robert Harevy would jump at the opportunity with good reason. They are both very handy amateur footballers in their own right. People talk about bringing on the younger players but the fact of the matter is, looking at their results when these two haven't been playing, that these younger blokes aren't up to it. Not sure how their ressies are going but I'm not sure they're near the top which also indicates that there isn't a lot of depth at the club.

So if they can play these blokes, they'd be mad not to and I hazard to guess that every amatuer club would play these blokes when available.

Haileybury have got a real problem, starting from their major feeder - the school. When you recruit 20 blokes in year twelve to win you a school flag, its not going to result in many players graduating to the old boys. The scholarship kids go off to play AFL, VFL, country or suburban football for cash. The local kids can't have a lot of loyalty to a network that stitches them in year 12 when they are rightfully due to play 1sts football (normally after struggling for years in the junior ranks of school football as Haileybury often does).

Old Haileybury really started to struggle as a result of "buying" their A-grade flag. Most good players walked out on the club after this (not sure why?) and they haven't really recovered ever since. They're main recruiting tool seems to be the offering of reduced school fees, which means that any decent footballers considering playing down there must be old enough to have children.

Not going to be a sustainable appraoch given you will ever only get a couple of years out of any player (unless you are Seccull who plans to die before he retires).

Therefore a bit of a band-aid solution Haileybury have in playing these blokes but they have no choice. I htink they will avoid relegation this year but long term I think the club is in a lot of strife and could drop to the lower echelons of amatuer football in the near future.

You make some very valid points there Hitler. I am sure most teams would jump at the chance to have those two in their sides. My thoughts are that most teams would struggle in B-Grade footy with 3-4 40yr olds and a couple of high 30yr olds running around in the same side. You could probably cover one, two at the most, but more than that and I believe you are going to struggle.
Are they putting too much time trying to entice these types of players and not enough time into finding younger ones? They have had success in previous years recruiting the "right" type of players.

It seems the best would be Old Melbournians and how they have recruited, been lucky enough to pick up two ex AFL players in their 20's and 1 in his early 30's. Also have been smart playing them in all 3 lines, back, midfield and forward line. I tend to think no one would decline playing Robert Harvey or Stewart Loewe in their teams, expecially if there is a supposed lack of depth.
