Yes, we really missed our number one ruckman and our onballers, as well as Duggan our CHB, 4 of our best players. Good effort by OMs though, Im sure they would have had some out as well at this time of year.

You back from the Tigers, Brian?:D

bernards too good for trinity on the weekend. ot's need too much from their top 6. cultrera was fairly quiet as was ramsden. iezzi was good early, little quiet in the second half, osbourne pretty good but the walsh boys struggled a bit. i think they lack a bit of depth which is the dogs best asset. the game was won by the young kids sullivan and church etc.
looks as though om's bernards and skob are safely through to september with one spot open for oh, ot, blacks and possibly ormond. probably have my money on trinity at the moment
thoughts?

I went down and caught the OM’s v SKOB’s game on Saturday. Conditions were disappointing because I was hoping to see a really good game. As it was it turned into a bit of a scrap, as I’m sure most games were on Saturday. I think Cardio Carl’s assessment of the game was a little unkind, both teams appeared to me to have a pretty good crack.

The first half was pretty even with boys teams kicking three goals with the wind. OM’s went missing for the first half of the third qtr and allowed SKOB’s to kick two goals into the breeze and it looked like the game was all over. To OM’s credit, they fought back with the next four of the third qtr and managed to hold SKOB’s out in the final term. I didn’t think a two goal buffer going into that wind in the last quarter would have been enough but OM’s fought tooth & nail for the victory – their pressure was outstanding. SKOB’s if they had their time again would have gone more direct with the wind in the last quarter.

All in all not a great spectacle although OM’s would be rapt with their win. SKOB’s clearly missed Dowd and Mahoney on ball. They were led well by the one man show in Simpson although I’d give the points pretty clearly to the OMs midfield, as the best list would suggest. SKOB also missed a ruckman and would have loved Gino up forward. No forwards from either team ever really got going, it was a low scoring game and both backlines were pretty miserly.

So not a bad game under the conditions in my opinion. OMs would be very pleased to square the ledger after the first game of the year I would imagine. Both teams will be very hard to beat and I still maintain they will play off in the granny! Cheers

GR- has robbins missed the last few?
is martinov kicking straight yet?
looking forward to after the break...

BS- how many did skob have missing on the weekend? 5 or 6 by my count...

VAFA06- dominating the tipping....how?

Old trinity- too heavily reliant on 3 players on the weekend ... bernards had better run and a better spread

Mystery Murph. Anyone would think he was The Whisper, ay VAFA? Ay

Heading to the Junction on Saturday, I was hoping for an enthralling game of football where both sides would go 'hammer n tongs' with the victor being the last man standing. What a disappointment.

The overall intensity and attack on the player with the ball was poor (maybe due to the big ground & conditions) with so many uncontested possession, but worst still the amount of turnovers when guys where a mile in front of their opponents.

OM game plan is an easy blueprint and the targets they go out to, then in, are very well structured - however if they are covered then this seems to place enormous pressure on the midfield to hold up and maintain possession.Swamp them and the game is more constrained.

The game/teams have left more questions than answers in regard to their finals quest. Both will be there, just depends on how many chances. If OM win R14 against StB they will have 2 chances.

I thought best for OM were Prowse and the 'Fridge' & SKOB Charles and Williams who I thought worked very hard and looked great.

Probably sums up B grade at the minute with the top 6 going through the motions and the rest just playing to win, if they can. Big message is "Can someone GRAB THIS SEASON BY THE THROAT AND DOMINATE"?

good to see my nemesis has entered the 4 with some new kids showing their stuff after getting the opportunities they deserved. VINDICATION! B4L

yes Tonto a few of the 'underlink' boys had a few $$ on OH a few weeks back when the Selection Committee was forced to change their selection strategy by some influential patrons, and start picking the young kids .

One could say that since i read them the riot act on this site to start giving the kids a go, I think they were looking at 0-3 then, they have pushed up some great young kids in Limon, Casey, Schofield etc who were all playing in U19's at the start of the season are now playing in the seniors. They have finally succumbed to Cardio's belief and realised that these kids are their future

Whilst some 'older OH boys' asked me to stop giving the team a hammering on BF, now that they are on their way and the odds are skinny odds then I can come out to play now - sorry J!

However, don't expect Blood4Life to come on here to thank me for getting them into gear, however Iam pleased to hear through a close friend of his ( old saggy bum ) that he has change his ways and is now in wonderment as to my football knowledge and nous.

Cheers

Went down for a bit of a look at the state game on Sunday at the Junction. It was a great day all round – sun was shining, very high quality football and an exciting finish. Unfortunately the Country boys got the chocolates in the end but the result wasn’t the be all and end all of the game. The game was played in great spirits.

Was very impressed the B-grade contingent. Was interested to see Iezzi and Fletcher missing out – says a lot about the quality of the blokes, in particular the midfielders who made the side.

Tommy Simpson was outstanding all day. He must have a massive tank – just kept running all day. I’ve been a little critical of his disposal in the past but he had a heap of it and used it well. Clearly BOG for the Vics. Brett Voss led the side well all day too. Kicked some crucial goals for the VAFA, particularly early, most of which came from contested marks up forward. There is no doubt he will continue to be a handful for B-grade teams going forward, particularly in finals if OH get there.

Of the others, James Beaumont was very good all day on a wing / half forward. Got plenty of the ball and used it well. Benny Jordan I thought struggled a little with the pace and intensity of the game. Prob not surprising for a bloke his age although his pressure up forward was very good. Tony Brown was going very well until he was knocked out in a sickening clash in the second quarter. Hats off to a bloke who continually puts his hand up for his club and association, despite already achieving in footy what most could only dream of. Quality bloke, I’m sure all wish him a speedy recovery.

A lot of blokes from B-grade pulled out before the game which was disappointing, but well done to all those who put there hands up and represented the Big V well!

couple of upseta there but i understand the tide of injuries has turned at Carey and that the last minute EFL recruits for Camberwell are looking good. Carlyle to line up on Ramsden, Tallis on Iezzi, and Hendrie on Cultrera with newish recruit Oswald to be the difference for the wells, very remeniscent of Bayford

Ormond were pathetic after 1/2 time today. After trailing by 9pts at 1/2 time, 1 goal to 14 is just not good enough. Injuries are really taking their toll at the wrong time.

Ambulance's in each of the 1's & 2's are never a good thing in football, both Ormond players makes it worse.

Ouch! Gunn

Trust both players are ok.

Sounds like an interesting game old boy.

Ormond had a good crack especially 1st qtr, but 14 goals to zip in 2nd half looks very strange - something must have occurred within the minds of the boys. Just weird. Barney would not be happy - hate to be the steering wheel in the old ford station wagon on the way home from the ground.
