OH comfortablely
Blacks to win by 100+ points but miss out. (Dont know by how they need to win by ..could someone work it out by saturday).

Sorry guys, posted what I thought was the correct maths for teams 2nd to 5th to claim a spot in the finals and a top 2 spot but was incorrect, will repost when I have it right as long as no one beats me to it.

On behalf of CC who is out cracking the "I TOLD YOU SO" CHAMPAGNE he would like to re-post these 2 very pertinent (especially after today) posts from last year.

I doubt any fair-dinkum coach who gave their input and expression of interest in last year will be bothered applying for the job after the disrespectful way it was all handled. and then to appoint a guy who couldn't coach in the end.

Also BS you stated HR will be ok with their strong juniors...WRONG!.
Just ask any Junior Rover people down there, the teams have been decimated by the Brighton Beach juniors with some 7-8 HR Junior teams either folding or unable to get a side going.

What a joke of a club.

Bye

What a joke the HR coaching process seemed to be.

Invited applicants to apply before 29th September however in the meantime alledgedy offered the job to Heath who declined due to G&C issues and then appointed Robbins as their 2nd choice.

In the meantime a few guys that applied IN GOOD FAITH failed to get an interview, let alone a response.

The guys running it should realise that whilst the interview process identifes the best candidate, it also provides the club with a great way to gain valuable information from external parties in regard to the club, game style etc and how what they can do to improve the club.

By not going through with the interview process was not only disrespectfu to the applicants but was a great diservice to the club as it did not alow the club to gain some vauable knowledge.

Re: B Section 2009 - Part 2

One of the best Presidents I played under had a great philosophy when appointing a coach for the club. He said Carl, "always remember the three 'Due's' and then you know you have done the best by the club and the applicants".

"One of the biggest jobs a President and Committee undertake is the appointment of a new coach, do it right. If you get it wrong then any aggrieved internal or external people will come at ya when the team is underperforming. Don't give them the ammunition"

Due Diligence: If your going to advertise the position and put together a selection committee (volunteers that have given up their off-season time) then make sure they understand the process and you go through it from start to finish

Undue Influence: Never place any undue influence on the club or the applicant. If one or both parties tries to influence the other then it will only end in tears. If the applicant wants & has the desire to coach our club, then they will be there at the start of the process right through to the end of it regardless.

Due Respect: Always give Due respect to each and every applicant who has taken the time to build their CV and apply. Sure, most will not be acceptable however you can glean so much from their External Knowledge about the game and our club. But the key is that we will have to advertise for coaches one day again, so if you just have no respect for any applicant not only will they never re-apply, but they go back into the footy community with a bad taste for your club and are prepared to tell one & all.

Even if the club has identified its best potential, especially one that has NEVER coached before, the information and knowledge gleaned from the process would be invaluable to them as well. You never know, a great assistant coach may have been unearthed.

If the 3 Due's are completed then this keeps all the members, supporters and sponsors happy and if the coach/team fail the next year then no one can complain. Don't be too egotistical and shorten the process just to get your name in the local paper.

However, if this important process is seen as a shame, then aggrieved internal & external parties will surely vent their displeasure if the coach is not up to standard. It just makes everyone look bad, even the guys on the selection committee who fell outside the decision making process they put their hand up for.

Good luck to our departing teams MHSOB and OEG, I sincerely hope you can have a better season next year and get to sing your song more often than you did this year. I am still perplexed by the demise of OEG over the last two years, it seems as though at some stage a full rebuild needs to happen, I just hope they don't try and come back to B with the same stock otherwise they are headed for a few years in 'Crunch' section (thanks Mahns).

Cardio, welcome back to the house of pain!

It doesn't surprise that Matty has made that decision. I never thought he was a ready made coach. However, remaining in the ammo ranks as a player when there are some ripe pickings in a couple of local leagues does surprise. Good luck to him whatever he does in 2011.
Maybe he is obligated to stay if he has already been paid for three years of coaching, which would make him a paid player for the next two seasons. What will they do about this at Headquarters.

How much do playing coaches get in the country comps ie Bendigo, Ballarat FL, in comparision to that in the metro leagues?

Hmmmm. Why would someone walk away from a job that pays 18-26 per year to get nothing? Why would someone into a 2 year contract and over 40 decide to put their body through a full pre season and match day hits.

Something doesnt smell right.

Forget about the coaching Jase, Matty clearly isn't up for that at least presently. There are players running around in the MPNFL on between 20 & 30K a year. I reckon, because of his playing pedigree, Matty could pick-up the upper end of that scale for playing without too much trouble.

****.

Lets hope this post stops any further comments re $$, coaching etc.

Good luck to his family!

I didn't think it was appropriate to air Matty's personal issues on a public forum, but he's obviously under a lot of duress outside his coaching duties and wanted to free up some of his time. HRAFC were completely understanding of his position and support him entirely.

Apologies to Briza & co, but rest assured we'll be doing our best to make sure he ends his first coaching stint in memorable fashion. SKOBS to miss the 4!

Uncle Mick, stop talking crap. The real reason Robbins is not coaching is that he turned up on Saturday morning after an all night bender a couple of weeks ago pissed as a cricket and the club were not happy, so he was told he won't be coaching next year, in spite of the spin on the club website, and that is F A C T.

You Hamptonites obviously think you are in a bubble and that news doesn't travel, but it does, especially news like that!!!

I'm not aware of any such incident and I can guarantee it's not fact because this decision was made well before a couple of weeks ago. I spoke to Matty 5-6 weeks ago and he'd already made the call. It was a matter of telling the club of his decision and then how the club would handle it.

Just quickly a good majority of you are speculating on another person/clubs decision. The club has no spin on anything to do with Matty. As people have mentioned he has other things he needs to put time & effort into, footy isn't a priority. The club never made any decision on Matty's coaching based on him turning up in any state, it was Matty's decision based on what are his priorities in life and the club fully back his decision as family always comes first. The club still supports him and will try to assist him and help him through his tough time. He has advised that he would like to repay the club for its time with him by playing next year and not having any extra burden apart from turning up and enjoying footy.

So for all you Craig Hutchisons out there, relax and stop reading into things and concentrate on your own clubs finals chances and the final round of the year.

In that case, best wishes to him and his family and good luck on the weekend in his final match as coach

Well, it may be that a win in the last round still will not secure a finals spot. But then again the Hampton scribes seem to think they will control the makeup of the final four ! And the weather may also have a hand in it as well.

Hampton Rovers vs St Kevins
Old Carey vs MHSOB
Old Ivanoe vs St Bernards
Old Haileybury vs Old Essendon
University Blacks vs Oakleigh

And as for that other big decision tomorrow, as my Ol' Daddy always says: "Vote Early and Vote Often !"

I'll take the Top 5 as well.
On the Hampton theory - MHSOB, PEGS and possibly Bernies will all win playing for their coach in their last game. So maybe SKOB will still sneak in despite losing....by the way the HR website is impressive.

By my calcs Uni probably have to win by 50pts more than OI do and 100pts more than SKOB & OH do to sneak in. On the Uni Ovals current condition I dont think that will be happening, but......
