Hi Lads, this will be my last post, Bob Down is also retiring, too much crap on here now, its been fun but I'm now 'getting a life'.
I'd like to say good luck but there are too many ********s here now like VAFA EYE, The Octopus/Monkeyboy(who has already been permanently banned, to make it worthwhile.

Surely this can't be true? Tell me it isn't so?
Not the great man Briza!
I might just have to start a "Bring Back Briza" thread.
Love your work Brizzler!

Well done to Carey - they've been the standout Prem B Team this year and deserve their shot @ A Grade, 2011.

Old Haileybury and Uni Blacks, both very good teams with quality guys. Tough job for Old Haileybury to backup against Blacks now.

All the best for our "juniors" on the weekend in their Grand Finals:

U 19 South (2) v Mazenod @ Trevor Barker Oval, 2pm Saturday.

U 18 (Div 1) v Rupertswood @ Visy Park, 11.30am on Sunday.

It's an end of an era Brian. All the best... it's been good to know you.

Is it true Bromley has retired OOB? And will Gately coach next year?

Hi Ammo,

Jon Rutter, Ashley Kitts, and Trevor Bromley (over 700 VAFA games between them) all played their last (and as far as I know final) senior game against Uni Blacks, Round 18.

Not sure on Gator's movements but Presentation Night is early October so more will come to light.

Seniors.
Old Haileybury vs University Blacks.
Without downgrading next Saturday's game, today's game can be considered one of the two most important matches on the VAFA schedule (the other being the second semi) as the prize is a berth in the higher division for the following season. There are plenty of pluses to select either side, although the Old Boys haven't beaten the Students this season. The former took a bit of a pounding last week while the latter had a relaxing week and I think this tips the scales in the Students favour.

Reserves.
University Blacks vs St Kevins.

Congrats to OH, 18-11-119 to 11-18-84. Early inaccuracy killed the Blacks and OH did well to keep them out.

try early, middle and late - some horrible misses particulary Hissey and Foster. Robbins and Foster missing in the first 2 minutes of the last qtr. Lacey on the full after not kicking to Robbins even worse just after before OH got their first goal.

OH best players played at the higher level they can and exposed an average backline. Can not understand why Blacks went head to head with Brown instead of trying to lock him down in the second half. Big error in the a tight game.

Didn't see the game but I see Heeley who came in to to do some of the lockdown the previous game not named in Seniors or Reserves for the Prelim.

The highly credentialed independent assessor is devastated his foresight in being the only poster to accurately forecast an Old Haileybury victory was called off-side by the powers that be when his effort was clearly a goal. A truly mystifying call.

In the very same post the insightful one also forecast Old Haileybury to take the silverware. Hopefully that prediction will remain on the forum scoreboard.

All is not lost, however, as the assessor had a handy collect when predicting Brian actually doesn’t have a life and would be back within a week. I know! It was easy pickings.;)

Play on!

congrats to hailerbury, thought they were in trouble at the main break but some very costly misses from the blacks kept them in the game in the third. the bloods stood up when it counted in the last after the blacks again failed to captilize on a number of early chances.

was surprised to see how undersized the blacks were up against the stronger bodied bloods but a pretty attractive, attacking brand of footy from both sides. should make for a good game next week.

it will be a tough week at the selection table come thursday, howat a certainty to play for carey in the granny. froggy mohammad was also missing in action at the weekend, anyone know if he was injured or missed on matchups...

pretty hard to split the two, fairly tight game two weeks ago so hopefull conditions are just as good next week

For the fun of it , here are some of the preseason tips

Brian- SKOB
Old Ivanhoe
Uni Blacks
Old Haileybury/St Bernards.
Bouncing - bernies.
blacks.
old ivanhoe
oakleigh or hampton

Myself - St Bernards
St Kevins
Old Carey
Haileybury

Chris Griffin-

Add Madden, Potter and co. back to the Bernies fold and i will optimistically put us on top.
- Uni Blacks finished well last year so ill have them up there.
- Skevvies of course as i like to se my old mates doing well
- Maybe Carey as a smokey...but no idea

wysiwyg-
St.Bernards - If they keep their list, they'll go close. Kids of 2 yrs ago are ready to go.

St.Kevins - Still have quality players. Will be thereabouts.

Haileybury - Should win enough games and have enough experience.
OC: Ready to win. Should go close.

OI are the unknown - Some good young players and real goers.

Rufus - OH
UB
STB
OC

Brian again-OEG will be strong, there is no doubt about that at all.

On a completely unrelated note, i think the teams finishing 1st and 2nd on the ladder have either played off or will be playing off in the Grand Final across all divisions, bar Division 2.

Is this common? What does it say about the Finals system? Any other thoughts?

It proves that the best teams usually succeed in September.

NB OI in North 2 finished 4th and won the Flag by a point.

I'll go: (top vote scorers) as per end of Round 18 top to bottom.

Old Carey - Baldwin from Reid (off the mark here in an even side)
Old Haileybury - Voss from Morrison (Brown 16 votes, Voss 15)
Uni Blacks - Richardson (most votes) from Costello
Old Ivanhoe - Del Monte (most votes) from Low
St Kevins - Lynch from Dowd (forecast quinella)
St Bernards - Byrne (most votes) from Overman
Oakleigh - Harold from Rutter
Hampton Rovers - Fletcher from Semmell (forecast quinella).
Old Essendon - Flaherty from Day
MHSOB - White from Evans

They are just the results I know. But hey aren't HR on the ball, all round. I checked the tweet on the VAFA site early last night and there it was - Leigh Fletcher the victor via a HR supporter. Maybe HR could move in to HQ. And maybe I could become an umpire.;)

No offence to the winner but if true it shows just how 'B Grade' the umpires are. How can a player from a club that finished 3rd last win the comp B and F? Brett Voss should have won it by a mile, and Im not being biased, just honest.
Good luck to the winner though, he is a good clean player.
good luck to all players this week in the GF, I would like to see my lads get over the line but realistically it wont happen, OC by 82 points if dry, 45 if wet.
