Eye, you seem to have Pakistani insight into the future. :). Must admit from my viewings you will be right on 2-3 counts, but i would have thought 2 Carey boys will figure 1-2 with Voss 3 and Low/Greer from OI as 4.

It ain't that hard to do, but you've confused the sh1t out of me here. Are you not aware that the VAFA vote count was last night? Leigh Fletcher from HR won the Premier B count with 18 votes. 2 clear of either Voss or Brown from OH was what I'd heard.

No offence to the winner but if true it shows just how 'B Grade' the umpires are. How can a player from a club that finished 3rd last win the comp B and F? Brett Voss should have won it by a mile, and Im not being biased, just honest.
Good luck to the winner though, he is a good clean player.
good luck to all players this week in the GF, I would like to see my lads get over the line but realistically it wont happen, OC by 82 points if dry, 45 if wet.

Understand that we came 3rd last, however were in most games & he is a ball winner with plenty of pace who carries the ball, opposition coaches obviously rate him as he gets tagged every week. Tipping it is well deserved considering in the past 3 years he has been 2008:4th - C Grade, 2009: 2nd - B Grade & 2010: 1st - B Grade. Well done to Fletch!!

what were the full results of the vote count?
cant find it on the vafa website

They generally take a couple of days to get the info up on the website. I'm sure it'll be sometime this week with each grade having a spreadsheet of results from the count. All I know is Fletch won by 2 votes from someone at OH. The 2 names I was given were Voss & Brown, but they weren't sure which one - unless I misinterpreted this to be both of them equal 2nd on 16 votes??

Fletcher 18 Votes
Rowe 16 Votes
Brown 16 Votes

Fletcher 18 Votes
Rowe 16 Votes
Brown 16 Votes

Lynch 15 votes
Voss 15 votes.

That's all I know re: Premier B votes.

Most interesting interview was the kid from Old Brighton who backed up from winning their South 1 flag on the Sunday to collect his medal replete with blue sprayed hair-do and reeking of the spoils of victory.

Most outstanding effort I reckon was the guy from St Francis Xavier who managed to tie for the Div 3 medal on 25 votes despite his team winning one game for the year.

Congratulations to Leigh - reckon his position as starting rover in the TOTY is assured.

For the fun of it , here are some of the preseason tips

Brian- SKOB
Old Ivanhoe
Uni Blacks
Old Haileybury/St Bernards.
Bouncing - bernies.
blacks.
old ivanhoe
oakleigh or hampton

Myself - St Bernards
St Kevins
Old Carey
Haileybury

Chris Griffin-

Add Madden, Potter and co. back to the Bernies fold and i will optimistically put us on top.
- Uni Blacks finished well last year so ill have them up there.
- Skevvies of course as i like to se my old mates doing well
- Maybe Carey as a smokey...but no idea

wysiwyg-
St.Bernards - If they keep their list, they'll go close. Kids of 2 yrs ago are ready to go.

St.Kevins - Still have quality players. Will be thereabouts.

Haileybury - Should win enough games and have enough experience.
OC: Ready to win. Should go close.

OI are the unknown - Some good young players and real goers.

Rufus - OH
UB
STB
OC

Brian again-OEG will be strong, there is no doubt about that at all.

nah nah nah forget what i said above...next year is the go when we get our U/16 group of a few years ago playing next year of-

Tom Liberatore
Mitch Wallis
Luke Mitchell
Jordy Schroder
TOm Sullivan

;);)

Sorry Griffo, both Libba and Walley are Skevvy boys through and through!!! Seriously though, thats a great crop who should all find themselves on a list at the end of the year.
Well done to Leigh Fletcher, a silky player, Im sure he got the clinching 3 in round 18, I cant believe Coughlan didnt poll well, astonishing.

From what I saw, Anthony Lynch was outstanding, Dowd was very good as was Coughlan but the latter I reckon was just toying with us, and would have put on a clinic if St Kev's had made the finals.

They are just the results I know. But hey aren't HR on the ball, all round. I checked the tweet on the VAFA site early last night and there it was - Leigh Fletcher the victor via a HR supporter. Maybe HR could move in to HQ. And maybe I could become an umpire.;)

does that comment plus a wink = already one?

Old Carey - Baldwin from Reid (off the mark here in an even side)
Old Haileybury - Voss from Morrison (Brown 16 votes, Voss 15)
Uni Blacks - Richardson from Costello (forecast quinella)
Old Ivanhoe - Del Monte (most votes) from Low
St Kevins - Lynch from Dowd (forecast quinella)
St Bernards - Byrne (most votes) from Overman
Oakleigh - Harold from Rutter (forecast quinella)
Hampton Rovers - Fletcher from Semmell (forecast quinella).
Old Essendon - Flaherty from Day (off the mark here, should have followed Briza's sound advice and tipped Biggs)
MHSOB - White from Evans (off the mark here, not many votes going around here).

For what its worth Old Carey to win this week but by a less margin than in the SF.

Nah LF, no umpire just adding to the intrigue.

What do you think should be the best vote-rating system to judge the best player(s) on the ground? Is it the traditional 3-2-1 votes or a 6-5-4-3-2-1 system?

Field umpires and boundary umpires, yes. Goalies are renowned for their considerable math skills, including being able to instantly recall their 6 times table up to 30x6.

Trouble with the votes is that the goalies only see the numbers on the defenders jumpers, and the good players in the midfield are too far away, so the decision is left to the red and sweaty fieldies slumped in the corner after the game. Filling out three places taxes their powers to the limit, it would be unreasonable and an imposition to ask them to do six, poor lambs.

I think the 6-5-4-3-2-1 system is a much fairer system in deciding who's the best players are at the end of a match, rather than the traditional 3-2-1 system. Most clubs use the 6-5-4-3-2-1 system as a way to vote for their best players in their best & fairest awards. Why can't the VAFA ditch the traditional 3-2-1 and vote for the 6 best players on the ground instead?

I reckon it's better for the VAFA to appoint an independent assessor who would cast votes on the best players on the day, rather than the umpires themselves. The umpires have a lot of things to worry about: how to bounce the ball perfectly, keeping 42 players & coaching staffs under control, trying to remember the Laws of the Game, and then at the end of the game, having to cast their votes-most of the umpires probably wouldn't remember who played well at all.

Jascave, theres 44 players but never mind.

I think that they should just draw them out of a hat in the aftermatch, they would be more accurate that way.
