Anyone tip five??? Cardio where u been??essendon guy swung first I've heard over the grepevine???
Great win crushers... A powerhouse on their way up!! I like them!!

Dont try this on mate will not work. This is a serious one, has more ramifications for the rovers player than you may think.Think about it?? The community will not put up with flagrant violence.Cast your mind back to Neville Brunns/ Leigh Mathews. The rovers player has not only the vafa to face but the same law we all have to abide by.

CC i assume it was to comfort him, he copped a lot of banter from a large crowd. To imply that it was a tactic employed by the coach is ridiculous.

You must expect a bit of banter when you king hit a kid when he is facing the other way.

I find it absurd that on a day where many sections didnt play, that the VAFA only supplied field and goal umpires and we had the super ridiculous where St Bernards couldnt even supply a boundary umpire, yet they had 22 players from the ressies watching the game. They had their water carriers acting as pseudo boundary umpires, which is outrageous, this is not Premier B football, St Bernards should get a kick up the arse for not being organised enough, very, very poor form.

If Benny Goodman is getting paid and making lots of noise about how great a job he is doing, then why the f.ck did this happen today....LIFT YOUR GAME BENNY AND VAFA.

Spot-on Brian. Benny has built a nice little empire but the results aren't there. If it wasn't for the RDFL input last year the lower sections would have been in reals do-doos for umpires.

We once had a very close relationship with the MSJFL with the VAFA being the comp of choice for their young umps. The SFL has supplanted us in that regard with their young umps running in that comp these days.

There are about half a dozen A grade field umps and the standard drops away from there.

There's no question that it's tough to recruit and retain umps but with a full time director and all the support that is in place we shouldn't be going backwards. An independent internal review of umpiring operations is called for IMHO.

The clubs were only notified at 7.30 on Friday night that they needed to provide boundary umps.

Rumour has it that there were boundary umps running around in C Grade practice matches!!

Congratulations to hampton Rovers for being the better side on the day, well done ,you deserved your win.

However this game will go down in history for one of the most outragious, cowardly acts ever seen on the OEG oval.Ess, forward luke Geistner is presently [after being taken by ambulance] at the Alfred Hospital after being King hit by his opponent.{from behind}I will be interested what the vafa do to investigate this incident.
No wonder parents refuse to let their sons play football

hows that old saying go? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? ask your player is he remembers hitting Tom from behind across the jaw then turning around and waving his arms to the crowd for applause.

an ugly incident, and not a proud moment for the player involved or the club. It is important to note that it was in retaliation though.

The vafa will investigate and make the decision, lets concentrate on the footy.
deja vu alright

there is no excuse for snotting a bloke from behind... its pretty simple.

This is now twice in their past 10 outings ....

At what stage of the game did this happen? Did it have an effect?

Good hard tough game from skob and bernards today. ... 2 red cards (by the 14 year old umpire) was pretty rich... we havnt had a red card in about 6 years and we get two within 20 minutes.

All credit to skob though, deserved to win... ran the game out well.

I cannot believe Oh beat blacks... what happened there?

Blacks beat OH by 5 points, and the red cards were deserved.

Mate it is not going to work. These tactics worked for rovers year in year out.provercation.Sorry buddy there was no provercation at all.The guy is a thug and has to be removed from the competition.
For a fleeting moment before the game i thought hey rovers have moved into the next century.I was very wrong, there still the old rovers, dodgy as ever,a relic from the days of bash em to get their minds off the job.OEG were going to win that game but you got them in.Robbins new it,thats why he hugged the guy.You know it ,i know it,everybody knows it. This guy will be tacked on to the list of the bravest and fiercest the club has produced. However he has put your club back 20 years, i feel sorry for the majority of good people at rovers, they do not deserve to be remembered as they are and will be.

Were Hampton any good or are you guys like SKOB in 2006, relying on big names at the end of their career who didnt have it anymore?

We played poorly and they played well. They were running all day but we were coming home but we got sidetracked to some degree. There a good side and will give plenty of cheek.

Lads, we dont know what happened, I find it hard to believe whoever the HR player in the shit is wasnt responding, so let the VAFA sort it out and get back to the stories of the day, like Coughlan's now famous debut, Oakleighs terrific win, and the fact that Blacks just beat a team of geriatrics combined with a bunch of young no-names.
OI destroyed MHSOB and it is a good win, by a fair margin by HR over PEGS and again, the umpire situation today was a shambles, they have only had 8 months to get it right....shame VAFA.

Brian your wrong, we do know what happenned and why should we shut up.

This all sounds a bit rich coming from the Old Essendon folk. Do we need reminding on the events from last year... was it vs St Bedes Mentone? Certainly a ferral bunch out that side of town. Sure this isn't just Old Essendon attempting to divert attention from the Rovers outstanding performance away from home in a game OEG thought they had in the bag before a ball had been kicked? Shades of the 2001 Grand Final. Also worth mentioning the Rovers played with only 3 on the bench from late in the 1st for the rest of the game due to an injury.

Regarding the incident... interesting one. The Rovers player involved certainly isn't that type of player. No priors that I'm aware of. Represented the VAFA at U21 level last year. And most definately wouldn't do something unprovoked.

can you let us know why you have emphasized 'retaliated'? are you honestly trying to suggest it was unprovoked!
If your only going to pick bits and pieces of an incident to report, you'd be better advised to just keep it to yourself.

Hopefully it was a little more provoked than last years incident ... for what its worth I hope they throw the book at him. This sort of stuff has no place in the VAFA.

Great win by SKOB on the weekend over a pretty good St Bernards side.
