Strongly Deny.

Im surprised its taken this long for anything to be said on here.

Its a shame we lost Rock and Shane but personal/family reasons come before footy. There have been many applicants, and the quality has been very good. Should have a decision soon well and truly before training kicks off.

How was the polo?

This story made its way to the other side of the bay as well - there is a lot more to it than Chris is letting on. Why did Shane need to re-apply for a job that he was already appointed for? Why wouldnt the Bernies just hire a senior assistant? It seems they wanted another ROCK but may have to make do now with another Liberatore on the scene. Another father/son combo coming up at the Pit???
After the presidential election debacle and now this, things aren't looking too rosey off the field at the Pit in early 2010.

went down and had a stroll on our ground last week, its certainly looking a lot better than it was round 18 last year (no mean feat).. but it tends to always look good around January so we'll have to wait til round 1 to see if work done on it has paid off.

Melb high grad, its a dangerous game ur playing but i do like your confidence! You've obviously recruited well?

They'd want to have with no McIntyre.

why was it a debacle?

Well, the incumbents didn't want to step down and were challenged. The result saw loyal, hardworking people like scarbourough step down from the committee in disgust . If it aint broke then don't fix it. Overman a good man who was doing a fine job

When there is a "coup", the entire focus of the committee( both incoming and outgoing) is on the AGM/election rather than on running the footy club.

A debacle?

Well, losing people of the calibre of scatters after 20 years of incredible service isn't a great outcome in anyones language, so I tend to agree with Tutto!

Both are good men and i think you will find both will be around the club for a long time to come. To call it a debacle or a coup is a tad over the top, in fact there was a distinct lack of fireworks, pretty staight forward. I was a little disappointed, i like a barny as much as the next bloke.

Rovers ground last year was in one of the worst conditions it has ever been in. The council has planted new grass in various spots just before Christmas, not sure how that has taken. Could be the same this year unless the council pulls their finger out - we have 15 junior teams, 150 odd auskick kids and 4 senior teams and they still rent the ground out every weekday in the winter to schools to use. Anyhow, lets hope it is better for everyones benefit!

let's face it, it was a disgrace last year l.f. large sections of the ground were threadbare. i was told the council was going to do a major resurface. just planting new grass is a worry.

you must have been told incorrect information then, they were always going to line inject the same grass which is on the outer wing, which hasn't died off ever in the past 20 odd years. They have laid instant turf in the cricket run up areas on either end of the pitch which is the centre half forward area. Anyhow time will tell.

Just a conversation starter here boys...

I have some sympathy for all clubs trying to improve the conditions of the ovals, change rooms etc for the greater good of all ammos players. It is often not through lack of trying or any fault of their own that some grounds leave a lot to be desired...

I have some sympathy for all clubs trying to get some help from the councils with regards to the conditions of the ovals, change rooms etc. In most cases (except those clubs using school grounds etc) VAFA clubs do not "own" their facilities and so there is no incentive to improve them only to be booted out at a later date

Councils are extremely difficult to deal with at the best of time let alone when you need them to actually do anything productive or constructive. It seems sometimes their major line of business is collecting rates, parking fines and failure to vote at council elections fines along with occasionally getting themselves sacked... The bottom line is its very difficult for an amateur foot club run by volunteers to have the time and effort to get through all the red tape to actually get anything achieved in a timely fashion.

My question is, therefore, what role do people think the VAFA should play as an organisation in representing its members as a group or body to local and state government?? If HR (and many others!!!) are struggling to get some action perhaps a push on behalf of all clubs in that area for all grounds to receive some commitment would make a difference?? Perhaps a push to state government for funding for the "largest football league" might help???

Each club parts with a significant amount of hard earned each year to EP and you wonder sometimes what we all get for that cash (certainly not a premier home ground for footy!!!). Thoughts??

In most cases (except those clubs using school grounds etc) VAFA clubs do not "own" their facilities and so there is no incentive to improve them for fear that they will be booted out at a later date leaving behind all that investment. Therefore, their only option is to plead for support from the local council.

100% agree with you Plumber, i might actually pen something to the guys at the VAFA now and see how we go, because as you have stated there are a number of non school teams that rely on the councils, some councils are great in assisting, Kinston i beleive is quite good. Bayside is ordinary.

Some may find it difficult to make that next step - like Joshua, big and little chief, Jesse, Tran, Ryan the list goes on, GG and Luke had wonderful GF but Mc is huge loss. Is that enuf?

interesting comments, plumber49. not sure it's reasonable to place that burden onto the vafa though. plus, they've had their problems with bayside in their attempts to upgrade elsternwick park.

working out which ward councillor has the most influence in your area and cultivating him/her is a worthwhile approach.

I agree BB that their own efforts with the local council doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in their lobbying ability... However, as the representatives of the greater community and as a fulltime, paid staff they surely have some responsibility to assist their members in such a crucial area (probabaly one of the most crucial in terms of attracting new people to play in our comp - makes it hard if you are asking them to play on cow paddocks every other week!).

The VAFA probably loses out in some regards to other comps by not being geographically defined (ie EDFL,SFL etc) so as to be able to concentrate its focus on one or two particular councils but surely the strength of the VAFA over other comps is the size and spread of clubs that should allow us to appeal to a higher body (State government, AFL etc) for assistance. It is an approach that organisations like SLSC (now LSV) have achieved to varying degrees of success but one that seems to be totally unused by EP.

Same goes for sponsorship etc.

Hey BB and CC, can you do us all a favour and stop using your current names and go and register new ones so we dont have to read your petty, thread destroying crap?

understand your general sentiment. but what relationship does it have to the quote and the conversation between l.f, plumber and me. what about contributing to that thread enhancing conversation.

There has been nothing worth commenting on, its all been dribble. BTW, can you please use capital letters after a full stop? It's Springvale High stuff.

Feel free to change that then "over it" - nothing like someone who is a mile wide and an inch thick to help the case....

How about you coming up with an original name 49, there is only one Plumber on here, and it's not you.

Only posting this because it has come up as a topic.. i know the world doesnt revolve around HR but heres the link for those that are interested in the boss james reserve!

http://www.hamptonrovers.com.au/news/news.php?newsid=831

thanks for that cubzy. i was at b.j last week and the improvement from last year is marked. fantastic to see the good working relationship with the council.

it seems councils are getting more interested in playing conditions. i have a mate connected to de la and they're very pleased with the work done by the council there. and on the 'c' section thread comments have been made about the huge reno they're doing at gunn reserve.

Hey BB, nothing wrong with someone posting 'dribble', and your writing skills are on the lower end of the scale!
