The incident made international headlines after 13 Australian women came forward and said they were forced to undergo invasive examinations at the Hamad International Airport after the baby was found. The Australian government denounced the searches as inappropriate stating the women could not give free and informed consent, the police officers who ordered the women off their flights and oversaw the examinations have now been charged.

Rights groups assert what happened amounts to sexual assault.

The mother and father of the baby have been located through genetic testing, the mother having already left Qatar and who on arrest will face charges of attempted murder.
