A 10 year career (and many more to come) and almost won a Norm Smith.
There were people at the time who suggested he was just a token selection by Sheedy, ever-obsessed with the cultural expansion of the game.
Not a bad career for a token selection!
Houli is a wonderful man. I loved what he said about kissing feet. Anyone who thinks it is odd or unusual is missing the point. It is about gratitude, respect, and humility.
Some people don't like it when others bring religion into things like this but due to the nature of the masses it is unavoidable that AFL footballers are thrust into the position of role models and, to be honest, there is no better representation of a practising Islamic human being than Houli. Too often religious groups are represented in the media by extremists and dogmatic fundamentalists, so hopefully Houli can enlighten both the ignorant and misunderstood.
cause most people are consumer, capitalist, atheist, mindless robot idiots. Churchill said somethings similar in a more poetic manner.
houli is a man of integrity, a premiership player and a dam fine footballer; his kicking and run is elite. His stats were off the charts until his bollocks weak (racist) suspension
Probably puts him consistently in the Top 100 players in the comp Ron.
legal or barely legal, the distinction is relevant
to be fair, stringer has the brains of a 16 year old boy
And he wasn't shoving his religious beliefs down the viewers throats by any means - Hamish McLachlan had just asked a leading question about how Bachar had got all the Richmond players to ring their Mum's to tell them they love them which was good.
Houli and Grigg form part of the A-grade line below the elites at Richmond..the few but very successful outcomes of the moneyball era..nice to see their own personal journeys vindicated in seeking a new club and more opportunity.
Might just be my memory, but there was a bit of hype about him in his draft year for his skills and freakish talent as a forward. Remember seeing some footage of him in the under 18 champs and looked very slick, so the people coming up with that kind of tripe would have to have been pretty ignorant of all that (though that goes without saying).
think Bachar just upped his position to bona fide A grade status after the selection committee had him as BOF for the grannie. I dont think he goes below A now. I concede, he is below Cotch, Rance, Dusty, and Jack. But on the line with Edwards, Grimes, Rioli (who is on probation about to be inducted). Vlastuin puts himself on the position behind those guys, with Prestia and Caddy, and Astbury and BEllis. That is 13 guys who walk in to any other team that stands currently. The topline talent of GWS just wont put their testicles on the line when it is time for them to risk castration.
edit: Lambert flirts with induction. Third in premiership year premiers B&F, puts him on the pedastal like Footscray's Liam Picken. Liam is the Picken I am thinking of right? He was a bona fide top 40 in Sheahan's top 50 last year imo.
Lambo criminally underrated, his handballs to advantage out of contested situations are ridiculous.
Not at the same time, bud. Any single 1 could go to any other club and get a game.
OK but in that case you might as well say you’ve got 13 players who are at least 22nd best at any given club.
Which is pretty much true of every club.
Let’s pick a shit side who didn’t make the 8 this year. Wouldn’t the following players be at least better than #22 at any club, and therefore walk in?
Doesn’t mean anything much.
I’m not trying to take away from the fact Richmond has a great side at the moment; I just think the above post kind of wandered into the hills with the concept of getting a game at other clubs. It’s meaningless and not what your team or your premiership was about.
Anyways $0.02, enjoy the flag.
Can i swap my foot for his liver?
Just in case you haven't watched the game, Bachir was told to play a kick behind the play, he had no opponant, and he dropped at least 2 pudds he should've taken, he played the role well overall, but get a grip.
This is the problem with watching the match in the UK. Me and three mates all thought Vlastuin was the man for the Normie. And then not a single vote from either the judges or the coaches. Sinking piss in the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square from 10 hours beforehand shouldn't be a discredit to our keen eyed observations
Good article by Bachar in today's Sunday herald sun- in my opinion Bachar:
- is a solid player who's got the most out of his career.
- was best in ground in the GF.
- is a great role model.
And he got up at 5am to pray on the morning of the Grand Final (after 3 hours sleep) and again at 5am to pray after winning the Grand Final (with little sleep).
I'm not religious, but I really admire his psychological approach to life. And it's great his teammates are happy not to drink around him etc - the club has been very accepting of him personally and I'm proud to have seen his career unfold in the way it has.
