RTB said he was going back to an"effort based defensive" game plan and he wasn't going to focus on skill level as happened in 2016. Now from 2012-2015 he always played a +1 in the backline and it was Johnno who was at his peak with his decision making, speed and skill level. Johnno set up a lot of our sorties going forward with excellent kicking and also running the ball forward.
It has been well discussed on a few threads that Johnno's performance on Sunday was very much below what was expected but then again he is much older has lost speed and his elite kicking was not so elite.
If RTB is not going to place an emphasis on skill development then he needs to select players who are naturally gifted in this area. he keeps persisting with serial turnover offenders in Sutcliffe, Spurr and Dawson(speciality in handballing to flatfooted teammates).
we have been told that it's a 4 yr rebuild then we need games into Collins, A.Pearce(when fit), Hughes & Balic. Dawson & spur are stopping the development of others.
Agree with Hasleby(in Today's The WEST) that RTB needs more skillful players in the back six. Crozier or Hughes is a better prospect than Sutcliffe. Moreover, Ibbo played a cracker as the +1 intercept marking
player in RD23 V Wbulldogs 2016. Why wasn't he playing this role V Cats??
Also the ball should be given to Weller he's quick, a line breaker and he can deliver it with skill
My back 6 also playing Ibbo as a +1
Hughes Collins Hamling
Ibbo (+1)
Weller Johnno Crozier
Johnno gets another chance if he keeps butchering the ball then its Peel time he won't be around by 2019/20 when we are supposedly challenging again.
Also Balic to make debut in place of Suban and Sherridan(needs to show something or its Peel) in place of Tucker.
