Suspicious this is a troll, bc you have been very very vocal about richmond supporters talking about their side on the Main board, even though the majority of the time it was in response to cheeky jibes, but youre a quality poster and this deserves a response.

Right now, we're looking good. Players have come back fitter and hungry for more, there's about 8-9 fringe players that feel they should legitimately be in the best 22. But its a long season so no point getting excited at this stage.

I agree with you that I think the players are only just realising how good they can be and we're going to a new level. They remind me a lot of the pies in 2010/2011. Pies were significantly better in 2011 but the whole malthouse/buckley thing became a massive distraction the closer the finals came and the possibility of a back2back coach being replaced starting playing out in the media, which didnt help. Thankfully that shit wont happen to us.

I think it’s way too early to call.

The hunger looks like it’s still there so that’s a positive. I want to see where we’re at in the bye rounds before I get my hopes up though. :)

Well apparently 34% of opposition players expect Richmond to tumble down the ladder. If that doesn’t spur them on nothing will.

I hope that the fact their fellow players don’t rate them a chance for back to back will hopefully make them even hungrier.

it is pretty sad when a team has to win two flags for the average supporter to acknowledge their quality. think of how stupid the average person is, then remember that about 50% of people are stupider (sic) than that.

1. tiges have shown intent is there already, many came back to training early. 2017 mindset endures.
2. 14 games at mcg, 3 etihad, 1 metricon,,,,all winnable
3. our system actually reduces instances of collision injuries. team-mates protecting each other when running with the flight.

give us a good run with injuries and flu/gastro/suspension/umps/boob photos and i tip us top four again

Hi Guys,

Firstly i'd like to say i might not be overly popular with some of you on the main board, but i don't overly care too much. The point of me coming in here today is to generate meaningful and genuine discussion in a serious format with regards to Richmond going back to back in 2018. I also know there is a thread on the main board re this topic but i wanted to bring it in house with Tigers fans alone.

Firstly, we've only seen a handful of practice matches this year, so judging too much from that is probably a bit risky, but nevertheless, what i have seen from Richmond is a pretty ruthless and unrelenting outfit hell bent on winning and winning well. It is almost as though they have gone into another gear and actually realised how good they can be and are.

Looking at this outfit does remind me of Hawthorn. Premature? Maybe. Unrealistic? I don't think so. What i see from this outfit is just cohesion. Smooth ball movement, A grade defensive efforts and structures, a sound and versatile forward line, and a calm and steady coach confident and enjoying his job. Some might say the Tigers resemble that of the Western Bulldogs from 2016, but i see much more than that. The WB have some issues with their coach (won't be going into details on how i know this), some off field saga that has impacted on field from last year, and obviously a big drop in game day output.

This is completely contrary to how Richmond are holding up.

I personally think they are the best side i have seen since Hawthorn, and bar some monumental increase in performance from Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Sydney or GWS, i don't think Richmond will have that many issues come finals. I personally see a bit of a threat in game style coming from Melbourne, but i don't even know if we will make the 8 and if we do i don't think we will be anywhere near Richmond.

So in all seriousness, i think that this is golden opportunity for Tigers to replicate the 73 & 74 efforts and give us a back to back effort. The way they are playing, and bar some unseen disaster, i think you are a top 4 lock and most likely a Grand Finalist at a minimum. You'll be very hard to beat in 2018.

Thanks for your time.

PS - I would also like to point out this is not a troll nor am i looking for bites. My tip right now is Richmond.
Reported for No Salt.:p:D

I think both Tiges and Dees can get to the top 4. From there, anything is possible.

Critical we can keep our A-graders on the park, but I’d back us to win games with one of the big 4 missing in a way we never could in past years. Remember when e couldn’t win a game without Delidio?
And we are yet to findout if we lose without Jack...Jack Graham that is.

Since when are ex players like Stevie J,Lonegan,Mackie,K Cornes,Boomer,Lloyd,Lyon & Roos allowed to vote?

Interesting to consider the season ahead.
In terms of injury. Griff Conca, Broad, Hampson had serious ones last year, But our key players are very durable. And I can’t see that being the big concern for 2018.
The age profile is still fine. 4 key players turning 30 this year. Sheds Houli JR and Grigg. I’m hoping that inspires them. They are all in great form. Our depth is good. You could throw any player on our list in 2017 into the firsts and not worry.
RFC is not used to these 26 game seasons. Maybe we need to rotate players a bit. With Broad, Towno and Jack G coming into the team very late means if someone starts tearing it up in the VFL. The selection panel won’t be afraid to bring them in.

I think last year was only the beginning. I think we can and will improve alot. Some people think we have peaked. I think the end of last year we only just figured out how good we can be.

oppos keep saying we have peaked but we never even planned to win last year. in fact we got prestia nank and caddy in and shelved lids who was ruining us and changed the gameplan hoping to refine the team over a year and have a shot in 2018/19 and maybe 20 before our senior players are cooked. we got better and better over the year and didn't look like slowing down. winning 2017 just means we'll get a 4peat instead of a 3peat

I'm just glad the intelligent 50% are the tigers supporters.

who are you?

Yeah they look great and it’s a very strange feeling still following a team who look and play like Bosses, but shit can just change very abruptly in this game.
I’m just enjoying what’s been, and the now.

I have said it before but I thought we looked a lot cleaner and skillful throughout the JLT series compared to last years hit out. Yeah, we had moments of scrappiness and were playing poor teams, but I recall even during our intraclub match last year we looked very very sloppy and scrappy with the ball and I remember being slightly concerned (even though I probably didn't say it). Even looking back at the highlights from this seasons intraclub, we looked cleaner and less scrappy.

I see no reason why we won't be back up there again. Back to back though? Difficult to say really. Going back to back is a difficult thing to do and with the competition as even as it is atm, it will be an even harder feat to achieve.

But as Dimma would say, "Looking forward to the challenge" :D

At this stage, there is too many maybes to really say.

Injuries and the ebb and flow of form will have a critical impact....as always.

I think we're a better chance than most teams, but even so, that would only give us a 10-20% chance.

we had a lot of pressure last year. dimmer could've been sacked and the club would gone to shit. dusty probably would've left if dimmer got sacked. we were still getting used to the gameplan and working into it with a lot of young forwards and new trades etc. playing past week 1 of finals was a first for most (everyone?) playing with a fresh ruckman like soldo for half the year. we have the same or more potential for improvement compared to most clubs.

this year our guys will be so much more relaxed and confident so hopefully it pays off. we did look to be toying with norf and essendong at times but they are trash sides. round 2 will be the first proper hitout

if we lose to carlspoon we'll know our guys are too comfortable with 1 flag

Like many, I'm reticent to say too much. Preseason has been good, but it's still preseason and we've only played against two teams -- one of whom is widely touted as a potential wooden spooner.

I will only say that I'm looking forward to this season in a way I haven't in a very, very long time (if ever). Can we win it all in 2018? Certainly. Am I betting the farm on it? Certainly not!

For me the most significant thing is not our performance in the JLT, but the depth of the list. I'm actually quite stunned by the fact that we have half-a-dozen or so players who could easily play in the starting 22 but won't because there's no opening. I don't remember the last time that happened at Richmond and for years it's been precisely the opposite: we've haven't had the numbers to consistently field a competitive 22 week in, week out.

So I'm bullish on our chances. I just don't, at this stage, want to get carried away worrying about the other end of the season. We have to get there first!
