It's extremely embarassing you consider Geelong strong opposition yet dismiss Adelaide Freo and Sydney who have all made more GFs than the cats recently
How many GF’s have Adelaide and Freo played in recently? Or is your definition of “recent” post 2011?

Anything that's happened from 2007 onward is recent.

Anything that happened before 2007 is ancient history.

Between 2012-2015 there were really no good teams. Geelong/Collingwood/St Kilda all dropping off.

West Coast are competing in an era with Collingwood, Richmond and Geelong (with Danger). It's not a free ride. Hawthorn basically got Grand Final opposition like Richmond did with Adelaide but 3 times in a row.

It's also arguable there have been no great teams since 2012 ongoing. The 2 3peat sides have relied more on the club they're facing on the day being terrible, rather than being best club each of those years. Brisbane got the Colliwobbles twice. Whereas Geelong and West Coast only got them once.

Ha! I love your posts Benny.

Who hurt you flog? Yes it's definitely more exciting this year due to being more even but I think the standard of football among the top sides was better back then.

Only because 1 or 2 teams were so far ahead of the rest of course they looked amazing compared to the rest. You are having a classic case of overinflating the past.

Go watch the showz you remember as being awesome as a kid again, youll find that youve been telling the next generations theirs were shit compared to yours but when you watch them again you realise they werent all that.

Fremantle 2013 at the peak of Lyon’s powers were favourites against the Hawks

Sydney in 2014 were the shortest favourite odds in over a decade in betting agencies

West Coast 2015 were the only team we went into with the betting odds in our favour.

What a BS thread. On our way to our three peat we had to achieve things like:

- Beating Freo in Freo in the prelim in 2015

- Beating Geelong when 26 points down in the prelim at 3/4 time to win against a Sydney that was described as imbeatable

- Beating Freo in 2013 against a Ross Lyon team that beat up on everyone all year until that day

You guys hit your peak at the right time but be under no illusions, it is a weaker Comp post 2011

So what you're trying to say is Hawthorn have been the most dominant team in AFL history?

Gee look, a post on big footy full of astronomical levels of Hawk-envy, and people desperately turning themselves inside out in attempting to belittle our achievements. Knock me over with a feather, who would’ve thunk it?

I always laugh at the Geelong attempts at downplaying the post 2011 flags. Fact is that almost nobody would rate the 2008 Hawthorn anywhere near the 3 peat team at its peak, but they still beat Geelong during its peak era, and took it to them in the early Kennett Curse games despite being a vastly inferior side to the 2012-2015 iteration.

That said this year apart from my side has been far better to watch. Back 5 years ago the best were too good and the bad were absolutely horrid, my mob back then was definitely one of the worst sides to ever take the field. Any bottom team today would destroy the Neeld led Dees by 10 goals.

West Coast still a good show for back to back. Unlike most other sides they have had 4 years of finals, and 3 16 win H&A seasons to back it up. If anything their experience, key posts and strong home advantage put them up there again. Finals is a matter of momentum, fitness at the right time and having hunger. That 2016 Hawks mob who went out straight sets was lacking the hunger it seemed. The Dogs had the desperation and relentless tenacity to out tackle, scrag & fight them that day. It is what my team lacks now, that we had last year.

Your can hear the Geelong bumhurts echoing between every word. Glorious.

Just admiring your work H2f, different alias but have been here for a long time....👍👍👍

I have no great love for Hawthorn but anybody trying to rewrite history re: the threepeat is being disingenuous or stupid. Sydney were absolutely favourites in that 2014 match. Freo were probably even money - people (rightfully) shit on Ross Lyon for his defensive style but that team was well-drilled and very hard to beat that year, just like St. Kilda in 2009/10. West Coast was an easier game but, again, that was a case of them shitting the bed as opposed to Bradburying their way into a Grand Final.

We would've 4in5'd if not for Cameron Mooneys miss in the goal square. Hawthorn at best could've had a 3in8

I'm not sure Geelong would have won in 2009 if they hadn't lost 2008
I’m certain we wouldn’t, a few players out of our team have even admitted as much. On the topic, it would be awfully silly to try & write off the Eagles chances after last night. In their flag winning year last year they copped hidings from teams who didn’t even make finals ( North & Essendon ), didn’t seem to hinder them come finals though.

2007 to 2011 has gotta be one of the weakest eras in footy only beaten by 1989 to 1995
2011 especially was the strongest at the top it’s been in a very long time, perhaps ever....The top 3 teams went 20-2, 19-3 & 18-4.... That will most likely never happen again!

Richmond should have gone back to back last year. They really only played one terrible game all year, in the prelim.

I know you have to fire when it counts, and Collingwood did that, but to say Richmond weren't expected/likely to go back-to-back going into the finals is ridiculous.

Geelong?

The dads army midfield needs to make it to June let alone September :D

They have Dangerfield who is the greatest player of all time that's enough reason to take them as a serious flag threat.
