Trying to remain positive, I can confidently say I was reasonably satisfied with the efforts of our back line yesterday. The pressure was there and it was only until the latter minutes of the 3rd quarter and then 4th quarter that it all collapsed and i think this was to blame on our lack lustre (well in most parts ala stevens, carazz, scotland) midfield!

Special mentions to Thornton for his efforts.............

reiwoldt & kosi were well held. the damage came from x.clarke, milne & gherig. so i think our main defenders did well considering we lost by 40. this team still needs time to develop. i wouldn't be jumping off just yet. we were never going to play finals this year and some supporters are carrying on after 2 games. patience is needed.

The only negative I see with Waite playing at CHB is if he played on a stay-at-home type CHF? How would he fare?

He is the ideal match-up for Riewoldt, probably the only player in the AFL who matches him for everything, but if he played on a Jon Brown or Anthony Rocca, how would he go? That's what worries me

He simply needs to use his athleticism and not get locked up too often in a body-on-body one out. He'd run 'em ragged, kill them on the rebound and, particularly in another year or so, receive all the help needed from Jamo and Irish. :thumbsu:

Our backline was good last night - just lacked that lock-down BP especially late when Milne got busy. Looking forward to Armfield's debut. ;)

Back 6 did a pretty good job. Kept the saints forwards pretty quiet, although the likes of Gehrig and Milne still kicked 4 each.

Gehrig-6 kicks for 4.1.

Milne didnt really hurt us early, his 4 goals came in the second half of the game if i remember rightly.

Koschitzke was really well held

and Riewoldt didnt have an impact on the game whatsoever. Sure he had a dozen touches, 10 marks and a couple of goals. But those goals came late and he does not hurt sides when he is leading up to the wing. Thats why Johnno Brown has and always will be a better player then Riewoldt. Big tick for Waite at CHB for me

All in all, was dissapointed with the result considering we blew them away early, but on the other hand you cant help but be excited over the prospect of a 100% fit Judd running around and a slightly slimmer Stevo for company. Has he been chowin' down the Maccas or what!

do you think setanta may be dropped.
ratten seems to be using him as a utility and with kreuzer and jamison coming back we wont be needed in defence and probably not in the forward line.

yeh, the backline has improved heaps during the pre season, did a pretty good job the other night and that was without jamo. would like to see setanta play on lloyd and give him a bit of a touch up.

forward sounds good, we lack the firepower at the moment and he isn't too bad a shot at goal. can also take a grab so he could cause a bit of trouble if they dont pay him any respect.

Backline held up well....it was our mids that lost it tonight, very unseen for most of it, which can be a positive, players like Stevens, Simpson, Judd, Carrot all had what i would consider down nights and we lost by 40.

Our delivery into the forward line kills us each week...i'm not a big fan of Hartlett, but i think just having him at CHF will allow a better forward line contest, which will then allow Fev, Fish and Edwards to have a better forward line structure, with players like Eddie crumming.

Get rid of Fev

Get rid of Fev

Its a bit rich.

Although Fev is a tool, he has been the only real target in the forward line for how many years (special mention to Fisher), and if you watch him he gets on so many good leads and what have we done for years, kicked to his left or right, over his head or at his feet.

The problem then has been his second efforts and his throwing his hands in the air...but hey if i was paid to kick goals and nobody could kick it to me i'd crack it aswell.

The difference this year is, he will now get support from players like Edwards and Hartlett, he won't be the sole target, which is what we need. We have been to Fev focused for too long....its time to change that, a successful team needs multiple options going forward...not just one!!
