Works better IMO.

Stratton and Hardwick have stepped up and to be quite frank, we don’t have a player the opposition can look to play through in our back 6.

So when his wrist recovers and he returns to the side, I think we should play James up on a wing, or up forward as a third marking tall.

Don’t mess around with the current back 6. They may be more “blue collar” but they’re working very well together.

No it doesn’t. Brand still looks like a deer in headlights.

I agree with ya and was thinking the same. When we only have frawley as the big bloke it puts a lot of pressure on stratton

This will expose Frawley big time. I wonder if it's a coincidence that Frawley has played his best couple of weeks of footy in a long time ever since Brand came in.

I'm not the biggest Brand fan. Think he's a borderline spud but he's like our Schoey in defense. Just keeps us structurally sound.

Brand is no good use if we come up against Richmond in a final.

You are probably right but we don't play against Richmond each week.

If it does come to a game against them then I have faith in Clarkson and the MC to pick the right players for the job.

I thought that Hawkins had the better of Frawley today. Chip didn't start to play well until we moved Brand onto Hawkins.

Without Brand to relieve Frawley we would have been farked. Frawley biggest weapon was his speed but he has lost that.

Off-topic but Hawkins has to be the best matchup for Brand in the AFL. Both players are dumb as rocks and play very simple games. Brand struggles on the forwards who are quicker and have more nous than the big brutes.

It has worked well. It was fantastic for most of the match today. But it's crazy talk to say that Sicily wouldn't make it far better. He's an absolute gun and an intercept genius.
Sicily defends by rolling off a smaller opponent and taking intercept marks.
The trade off is he’s pretty ordinary when made accountable for an opponent who the opposition use as a conduit to their goals.
He looks great when opposition sides kick it high into their forward line or only have a couple of talls so he can play on a smaller player. GWS, Richmond and West Coast (for different reasons) pose problems for Sicily in our backline.

Tend to agree with this assessment. Weakness is definitely one-on-one defending, but he's still wearing L plates as a defender. Think his intercepting, run and kicking accuracy out of defence more than make up for his weaknesses one-on-one, so I'd still be leaning to return him to the backline when he comes back. Things start to get interesting if Birchall makes it back though. Note sure we can fit all of Burton, Sicily and Birchall into the same backline, so one of Burton and Sicily further up the ground seems to make a lot of sense at that point.
