Damn that is bad.

Nothing you could do there, and to be honest he was never going to fold on AA.
Yeah even though I lost a fair bit I was quietly happy with myself for not shoving his re-raise and losing everything haha.

I was more so annoyed because he didn't even know he had the nuts - was calling the whole time with a pair... even if I shove the turn he probably calls and I still get smashed

Got called a cheat the other day while in London. Dunno whether I was out of line but definitely know I didn't cheat.

Was heads up and after the river the villain turned over her cards before I had acted. Was about 50 quid in the pot and she had a pair of aces. I had nothing but a busted flush draw.

So, I bet. I put in 40. She went into the tank before folding. I showed the bluff, to the amusement of the other players. She started ranting and raving, calling me a few choice names including "cheat." Dealer asked me whether I wanted her removed. Na, I said, let her stay.

My neighbour at the table later said I shouldn't have shown. While he thought it was funny, it lacked a bit of class.

On balance, I think I was wrong to show as well but was happy to take down a pot in an unusual way.

Anyone faced a similar situation?

Dick move but not a cheat.

I showed early once and the villain jammed. I actually called it and lost, but I still maintain it was a good call (can't remember exact situation but I wasn't bluffing)

Okay this might be one of my most frustrating ever, just happened moments ago.

Online tourney, 160 entries, top 27 get paid, I finish 28th!!!

How? I have 6/5 suited, flop comes 7 8 9 rainbow.
Excellent! I bet the pot size
I am raised, cool, if he is drawing I need to charge him for his draws, I go all in.
He calls, and at that point in time only a couple of of card combos beat me and its 10/6 or 10/J and the 10/J is what he turns over.

I know I was beaten by a better hand but far out the chances of him having that exact hand and finishing 28th of 27th paid, after flopping a straight, that hurts.

Even more frustrating is I only played my hand because they were suited connectors and his were off suit.

I've been playing a few pub tourneys lately through the APL league. Man the amount of people who think they are in the final table of WSOP, or as good as those players, it is soooooo incredibly cringy to watch.
Yeah it's an interesting world.

I have been playing about 6 months now and it gets down to your level of interest and commitment.

Are you hoping to move through the levels and get better or just want to have fun or even just be happy to play every Friday night

Big thing I keep telling myself is it is PUB POKER. There will be donks and newbies, sitters and splashers , loose and tight, angry and sad. The ones that most annoy me are those that get upset over losing to a donk 4/5 when holding QQ. It's pub poker. It happens. It's not nice but cards don't know what you hold. I've seen people throw chips at winners and I have nearly seen a table go over.

It's pub poker.

Some guys play 60 Games a month and at average $10 a game I wonder if pub poker is the right place. If poker is that much of a passion then go to the casino and make some real money. These few guys playing that many games are investing a lot of time for about $1000.

The rest aren't making that much either.

Me I'm happy getting out of the house and catching up with people to test myself against and have some laughs along the way

Yeh I agree.

I checked my stats on the website the other night, so far, I have played 10 games total, since January, so about once a week on average. There are people who have clocked up 100 games in that time. Far out! These guys are playing pub poker more than once a day on average. I just don't know how one could fit that in on top of other life commitments. It's almost like pub poker is their entire life.. but it is sometimes sad to see the players that you can see are really down and out and depressed at the table, like we aren't losing $300 on a hand at Crown, it's usually $15-$30 for the entire evening, lighten up a bit and have a bit of fun. And that extends to my annoyance that some treat it like the WSOP, I had some bloke full stare me down hard for a solid minute the other night when I bet. I was just sitting there laughing. There are blokes that play with hats and sunnies on a Saturday night, this is for a tournament where they might win $140 after 3 hours...

Yeh I'm not thrilled if I cop a bad beat or make a bad decision, and when I play, I play to try and win, but $20 for a bit of fun with a game I enjoy on a spare night, it's a good, cheap, controlled hobby where you can have a drink and meet some new people.

Just finished a poker weekend with the mates. Started with Texas, but it quickly changed to Omaha.

Raped and pillaged by my 'friends' all weekend. Every full house was worse by one pip. My straight lost to their flush.

My flush to their book.

The only good wins I had was quad Aces and quad fives.

Brutal game.

Most frustrating ever? It's a cooler. Coolers are very frequent and if they upset you this much you are in the wrong game.

Recently played a $25/$10 Bounty game and came across a term I hadnt heard before yet heard twice in the one day

Blinds are $500/1000

I get dealt A10 off

Flop is 10 , 7 , 3 person to my left bets $2000 . I have best pair so I call
Turn is 5 he bets another $2000 I call
River is an A he bets $2000 again and I raise to $5000

He starts shouting out ''you counterfeited me you counterfeited me'' I'm looking kinda confused and he eventually calls the other $3000 and turns over 7 3 and I win with my A10.

I looked it up during the break and I still dont totally understand it but again I heard it when someone muttered ' I'm getting counterfeited''

1. What does the term mean in easy language
2. Did I do anything out of place?

The definition of counterfeiting I think differs slightly between players. For this player it seems like it refers to when a card comes out, and it makes your hand stronger technically but it actually makes you weaker compared to your opponent. The river ace gives him a slightly better hand technically, 7's and 3's with an ace rather than 7's and 3's with a 10 kicker, but he knows that the ace actually makes him weaker in the context of the hand.

I've generally understood 'counterfeiting' to be a situation where you can't play either or both of your hole cards to their full value. Eg KQ and board is JT9 3 Q
75 and board is T75 2 T
66 and board is TJ7 J 7 (I hate it when you lose a race v AK like that!)

I wouldn't use the term for the situation you described, but others have different definitions.

I have a different definition where I play. Counterfitting is when the board pairs making the best hand no longer the best hand.

E.g.

Me: A9
Opponent: J7
Flop:
JA7
Turn: 5

At this point I have top pair but he has me beat with 2 pair.

River: 5

The board pairs and so his twopair hand of J7 is now beaten by my Aces and 5s because the 5 paired the board, so a card that doesn't actually help my hole cards or personal holdings came and gave me the best hand when I was behind and this is known as counterfitting.

Basically it's just another example of the luck of the cards falling one person's way and someone else getting shitty about it.

Welcome to poker lol

A couple of my recent beats that really pissed me off.

1. Had the nuts Ace flush on the turn, only for him to go from trips to full house on the river.

2. KK shoved preflop called by 8 10off and he hits 8 3 8 on the flop and wins.

3. AJs shoved on a J high board to be called by Q9s and the next two cards are 10 and 8 giving him a straight.

Trusting this variance to even out long term and I should be winning these pots.

Player 1 - 10 Q
Player 2 44

Flop 9 J K Big bets and call

Turn 4 Player 1 shoves All In
Player 2 calls turns over trip 4s to the flopped straight.

Player 2 says only thing that can save me is to pair the board

River is a 9

Player 1 storms out the venue

Reminds me of one that I was a huge beneficiary for.

Preflop raises, 3 or 4 players.

Me: A9
Player: 8 10
Flop 679
I bet hard, raised, I call all in. Others fold it's 2 players left.
Flopped straight vs top pair.
Turn 9, River 9.
I hit Quad 9s.

I went on to come 3rd in that tournament, from absolutely crushed in that hand. That's probably the luckiest I've ever run in an all in hand. Not sure what my win % would have been from that spot.

Pretty tilted after playing a bit of online today, this is variance when it sucks.

Pocket aces vs Q10 off,
flop comes 6 10 7, raise and reraises until we are both all in, I'm about an 80% favourite at that point and he hits a Q on the turn.

2 hands later, AQ vs A5, both hit the A on the flop, turn comes a 5 and he beats me with 2 pair, this time I was an 86% favourite at that point.

Yeah played my second one in three weeks, but the way the cards came out were pretty frustrating

Was an up and down night

Doubled up a few times when the blinds started going up after the first break then had AQ twice and threw away my stack with it as it didn't hit. First time I had it I raised 2.5 times the BB, the BB had a big stack and defended it, out came rags of 689 and we checked flop and turn, turn another 9, then the BB put out a bet on the river when it hit a 5, think he had 45, I thought ace high might've been good, paid him off. Shoved with AQ again a few hands later, 2 callers, another guy at risk had AQ, big stack had KQ, K on the flop and it was all over.

Any tips on aggressive preflop play and converting that into postflop wins, particularly when you only have a medium stack and not a lot of wiggle room? Seriously felt like every time I raised preflop with a premium hand I either completely missed the flop, or I'd hit either flop/turn, bet and get called then get absolutely crushed by a river card when I was well ahead previously, but whenever I limped in the cards generally fell my way and I cashed in.

I consider myself to play post flop play extremely well normally though whenever the price is right to play, but yeah, I just did not connect when I was the aggressor, didn't have a stack to back me up to put in a few bluffs either.

Eh
