I saw a man and a woman both lose over $2k each in the space of about 10 minutes, so obviously its very possible to lose, and to lose very quickly.)
As an addition to my night at the casino the previous page - I sat across from a woman - obviously bored- on her phone - just pushing chips in when the dealer snapped her away from her insta page - who would have gone through 800-1000 in the 30 minutes she sat there

Hopefully you got a piece of that. Nothing more annoying than someone spewing chips when you're going through a dead run of cards.

I played my first live session in nearly a year last night and boy oh boy it was brutal. In for $600 at 2/2 and left with 0.

In 3 hours I only won 3 hands, all less than $100 pots. I was dealt one pocket pair (22, whiffed on a set) and one suited connectors (KQ, one of the hands I won after floating their donk bet and turning top pair).

I had AK twice, both in blinds so OOP all hand. First time I C-bet with overs and back-door flush draw, 2 callers. Turn pairs the board with no help for my flush and I check, second caller jams for 1/3 pot, I have to fold with a player still to act. They call, river is a ******* A. Jammer had top pair on flop, caller had flopped flush draw that missed and I'd have won a $500 pot if I stayed in.

Second AK I overcall from blinds against an aggressive raiser. Flop K65 two-suited so I decide to let him bet for me. Turn is 9 and I do the same. River T, I make a blocker bet to look weak. He raises, I still think I'm good so I call and he turns over QJ for runner runner straight. FML.

I had a cancellation in my calendar and decided to play the Masters event at the APL event

Up and down but ultimately no good.

Look down at QQ in the big blind and start calculating raise size on a 200/400 board.

Utg2 raises 3x and I figure I will hide my hand and call

Flop is QJ diamond and 6spades. Bewdy. Check to the raiser.

Bets 1k call

Turn is a 7 - check bet 3k call. I did think of reraising but felt I was good.

K club on river so flush misses and he checks. Hmm ok I'll bet 6k and he tanks a moment and calls.

Turns over pocket KK

Couple of hands later back to start stack and look at A9 utg3 - limp figuring fold to any sizeable bet.

Limps around and the flop is ATA. Grr can't bet and it checks around.

Turn is another A

Gahhhh. Check and BB bets 1k call and I call.

River is a 5 and I figure what the hell pretend I hit the 5. Bet 5k - call and fold and caller had the 10

Bad luck buddy.

Played a day flight for the Main Event of the Adelaide APL at the casino

Highlight was sitting next to the lovely Jackie Glazier :hearts:

I set out to bag up and achieved my goal by accumulating chips rather than smashing doors down.

Had 2 spots that concerned me but otherwise overbet my really strong pairs when the table limped - ie rather take the pot pre-flop

One spot was KK at 800/1600/1600 - I'm BB and it limps around to Button who min raises and I decide to re-raise to 12k

He calls and everyone else folds. I have played a few times with this player down south and know he can be tricky but I at least credit him with 2 pictures - but he also knows my game

Really my only concern is if an A hits the board.

Flop is Q74 - good - he checks I C-Bet 12k and he calls

Turn is a T - he checks and I bet another 12k - both nervous and excited about what he might or might not have - but I figure he has at least hit the board as he calls again

River is a nothing - so much so I forget what it was - maybe a 2

He checks and I wonder if it is a trappy play or he has given up. I look at the pot and figure there is enough in there (accumulation) and check back

He shows AT and I have a nice bank

Further down the track - blinds are 1200/2400/2400

The table has changed and a new player has decided if he opens he will raise and has done that and won but also thrown away hands - so I figure its an aggression move rather than having cards move - which helped me decide this next spot

I look down at JJ in the SB and the player above is UTG1 - raises to 6.5k - which has been standard for him - so I read no great danger in the bet - yet wary which decided my move to call to the flop ( plus hiding my hand) BB folds and its just us 2

Flop is 777 - I check and he bets 12k - and I feel this is a pivotal point in my day and start thinking of what he could have and doesnt have.

I dont think he has any pockets higher than mine.

I look over and try and see his stack and he lifts his hands and I count around 55k

I tank a bit more and consider a call or raise and look at his stack again - I have him covered its just how much I am willing to be crippled if I get it wrong

What decided my shove was this idea he didnt have a higher pocket and that I didnt want him to catch up any more - and I really didnt think he plays A7 in that spot

I shoved and he folded

As I said it was about accumulation - got moved to another table with an hour to go ( 2 levels) and sit down next to a player with 30kish

I have QT in the SB and we have a min raise/call from 2 ahead of me and I decide to see a flop which costs 6k - except BB shoves the last 30k - fold fold and its up to me

Grrr @ not being gambly as I also fold and this player ends the day with 200k

But its another player from Vic that interested me - I feel they will go deep

I went back to the pub the other night, first pub poker Ive played in years.

I had QQ vs A9, flop is ?Q9, so Im still up. Then he hits both his runners for quad 9s.

Later I had AK vs 58 off suit and ended up all in pre-flop (yes, the BB ended up all-in on 58 off suit despite it costing him about 15 BBs.) A on the flop, then running 5s to crack me again.

The hand that ended it was KK vs TT... flop is AKQ... (you can see where this is going). Turn was a 2 or a 3 or something. And then he rivers his straight to screw me.

All of this without winning any of these 30-40% hands myself.

I was pretty close to a dummy spit.

Last hand of the weekend at the APL event.

Blinds are 1/2/2 and I'm in middle position with AQ off

Utg raises to 6 I call as does BB

Flop is TQclub and 6spade.

BB checks UTG bets 8 and I shove - hoping the club draw folds.

BB folds and UTG calls and turns over TT.

Well he didn't have flush draw Turn is the teaser Q and a 3 on the river sees me head home without cashing anywhere

Hey, I’m curious about APL tournament play - when you say the blinds are 1/2/2, is it only a BB ante or is everyone paying it?

Big Blind pays the ante - its not popular but to be fair it gets things moving

Some events this weekend started 100/200 , 200/400 , 200/400/400 and continue with ante

1 event had the ante from the 2nd level

I hate pub poker. Was playing last week, garbage hand after garbage hand.

Finally pull an As Kc. I raise, only knock one guy out.

Flop is Ad, 5h, 8c.

I’ve got my aces, so I bet big, there’s only 2 of us left for the turn.

Kd, so I’ve hit my AAKK, bet huge, other guy follow.

River is 9d, I bet half my stack, the other guy doubles it.

I’m sitting there trying to figure out what he has? Pocket 5s? An Ace that he’s hit and I’ll beat?

As I was thinking it through out loud I actually said “he hasn’t put that much in after the flop on a flush or straight draw… unless he’s hit trips I’ve got him.”

He turns over a Qd 5d… this moron had come this far on a flush draw that he hit on the runners.

Ok. So one moron played a stupid hand and knocked me out getting stupidly lucky, but the dummy spit nearly happened when a couple of other guys said “good hand” to him.

It wasn’t a good hand. He got extraordinarily lucky playing a s**t hand that he had no business putting about 70 BBs into

1st pub poker game for a while and I made some rookie mistakes

1st one was early in the night I have JJ and raise and have 1 caller - someone I play in the home game setting so know his game fairly well

Flop is 4T7 cbet call

Turn is the A - ok I'll represent the A and make a big bet 5k - call hmm

River is a 7 and the board pairs and I freeze. I check and he checks and turns over Tens saying any bet he was gone - bahh kicking myself

Next mistake was later on 3 tables to go and I have just doubled up to 18k - yes it was one of those nights. Blinds are 2/4k

I have K6 in the SB and it folds around to me . I figure a squeeze is on and I shove and say all in for 16k - did not even blink or think

Eventually we have a call with J5

5 on the flop and 6 on the turn doubles me up again - or does it - dealer (same guy from earlier) says nah you verbalised 16k so he gives you 16k - which was fair enough and I didnt even complain about but it showed how rusty I was

Made last 2 tables and have 130k blinds are 10/20k and I am BB - UTG shoves her 140k and I was looking down at AQo and not even concerned at what she had - I called against her QQ

Out top 12 and happy with it overall

LOL at pub poker dealing. Surprised no-one else on the table spoke up on your behalf. If you weren't all-in then why didn't he give you the chance to act on every street?

I had 18k. I put 2k in for small blind then announced 'all in for 16k' instead of just all in or all in for 18

No biggie but interesting to see if I lost the hand 😂

'All-in...' is the binding verbal declaration and your stack is was it is. You can't subsequently misstate your stack size.

At worst you might get a penalty following the hand if it was deemed a deliberate and egregious misstatement.

I’m starting to really loathe pub poker.

I’ve been playing a bit online, which is enough to know I’m good. I know a lot of people delusionally think this, and I’m not saying that I could make a career of poker - I couldn’t. But if I had a bigger risk appetite I think I could turn it into a side hustle.

Then you go to the pub and your great hands are getting murdered by people who go “it’s only a $20 buy-in with a ‘free’ top up if you buy a couple of beers” and just wreck the game betting like morons.

A guy tonight put 10 big blinds in before seeing the flop. I had AA, hit trips on the flop, then he knocked me out the first time with a straight on the river.

That was literally the first playable hand I’d had, on the 2nd blind level.

Over the next hour, literally the only playable hands I had were pocket 4s, where I was knocked off the hand post flop. I had pocket 7s that got beat on the turn. I was surviving by stealing blinds and over betting on s**t flops. I did have an AK suited at one point, and given people were betting huge I raised to 3BBs… everyone folded.

Then I hit QQ, went all in pre-flop for 10 big blinds… 2 guys call despite the big bet.

One of these pricks had called me with 2c4c…

Flop is Qd Ac 5c (u know what’s coming)

Turn is a 3c… and this prick has a straight flush on the turn. (Before another 5 came up, seeing me knocked out with a full fking house.)

Nice weekend in Hahndorf. SPT poker run a quarterly tournament.

Prize money for this one will exceed 350k

Made FT in teams and top 15 in bounty

Currently running stacked in 6 max hoping to go deep

Playing the bounty I get my 39k all in with KK. Two callers two at risk. Me and another.

My KK v TT and 88 holds. Tripled up and bounty collected.

Paying top 20 we are at top 30

Build it up to 220k and see AJo . Shove get called by annoyed at someone else KQ

A on flop with K. Ok ahead. K on river sees me hand over 165k and we go on break with 42k left

J8 shove called by BB 74

8 on flop is good enough.

Next hand QTo - shove 85k against K9 - Q on flop holds.

Then build it up to 330k - with help from Mel - MrKK

Look at 99 and shove - big stack asks how much and I say 320kish. He tanks then calls with A4

A on flop and I collect my money.

Fun times
