You must have been awful child for them to do this to you.
 
Yeah, my parents were and are both pretty racist, homophobic etc. but my mum is/was particularly cruel, whereas Dad is just an ignorant alco.

When one of my cousins was diagnosed with a serious mental illness, my mum took absolute delight (verbalising it and everything) in it because in her head it meant her sister had failed. In spite of the fact this cousin is incredibly well educated, a great person and quite succesful. No actual concern for her relative or her sister, just personal glee. It was almost euphoric. I've often thought she has borderline personality, as our home was a very unstable place due to her erratic and outright sick behaviour towards us kids. When I was young (around 5 or 6 years old) she used to tell me how when I was conceived it used to be legal to insure your kids for life insurance, but too many parents were killing their kids for profit and the laws changed. Why would you tell a child that? Psycho shit.

Your parents names weren't Fred and Rosemary by any chance
 
This one is tough to say, really shook me up and to this day really affects me.

Basically I was around 8 or 9 maybe even younger, can't believe I'm writing this, anyway one night I woke up after I had a nightmare, must have been like 9-11pm. Anyway here I am just a lad and I'm scared and thirsty, I wanted some milk. I walk out of my room and go towards the lounge room. I hear both mum and dad making odd sounds, almost playful. I was at this point intrigue so I made my way to the lounge room and as I entered the room to my horror I witness a terrible thing, a hideous act. Far out this is hard.

My parents were sitting on the ground in front of the tv playing the latest Donkey Kong game on Nintendo. I didn't even know it was out. Apparently they wanted to finish it first.

No they weren't, come on... I took a picture of them, looked creepy but sure sounded fun!

Ha! I was almost the exact opposite. My Mum tried to dress me in a Bombers guernsey.

Wow. If this is true, I truly want to apologise for all the times Ive hung shit on you. At times on BF we get carried away in a world of laughs and anonymous joking shit slinging and forget that in the other end of comments are real people. For what it's worth, I'm sorry you had this upbringing and experience.
 
my old man made me watch the omen when i was about 6. i was that shit scared i barely slept for a month.

My parents were also Collingwood supporters and, like you, I managed to avoid following in their footsteps in that regard.

We should be thankful for what we have.

But, so much in their educational methods stand you apart from the herd. I can always tell a person who has been educated by catholics, by the conversation we have. They are never lost for a word, have confidence in their presentation, and understand the intricacies of language and emphasis. It's a double-edged thing, that sort of education. In an age where an ability to confidently present is a rarity, we have a head start.
