Review Bad/Ugly vs Fremantle, R5 2020

I’ve given Nicks a lot of rope this season because frankly, the team he has inherited is devoid of any talent, but starting Crouch Crouch in the middle in the last is inexcusable. When you look at the stats this is by far our worst setup clearance wise and Lo and behold we give up 4 clearances on the trot.
How much say would Godden have in that? SANFL is his level.

He was at plenty of ball ups and throw ins, which is my point.
Of course. All midfielders, wingers and flankers attend the ball ups. It's super congested.

Kids watch:

Jones - just keep playing him in the guts, has speed, needs strength

McHenry - needs more strength, has good moves but not enough power to bust tackles just yet

Hamill - genuine running half back, gaining confidence in himself

Keayes - workhorse, not pretty but worth persisting

Frampton - slow, but could be a good foil for Fog in the short term

Poholke - needs a run of games, lacks a bit of pace but is strong and plays sneaky tall

Murphy - depth, tries but lacks class

McAdam - genuine talent, will win games off his own boot, don't expect consistency (see every other McAdam ever).

RoB - Just lock him in, not fashionable but tries his guts out and can take a grab.

The Good

Hamill
Doedee
Talia
We scored when we took the game on and took risks

The Bad

Lets go straight to ugly

The Ugly

Fumbles
Stumbles
Bumbles

A lack of coherent game plan
A lack of coherent future planning
Matt Crouch - Brad straightened up last week with no Matt
Taylor Walker - just get to 441 and retire
Murphy - good honest trier but no more

Structures - I cant see any.

Maybe it’s just because he’s constantly injured or maybe Rory Sloane has now graduated to the old non-statistical role

It's time to actually drop all senior players except Talia. Dodee to be named captain

And we play all of our kids.
Sholl, McPherson, Worrall, Schoenberg, McAsey. We have to make some type of statement

If we have similar younger players waiting in the wings there is no point in playing Laird, Lynch, Smith, Tex, Hartigan. I'm actually staggered at the lack of genuine young midfielders options we have on our list - how the **** did that happen.

Am I the only one that is not sold on ROB?
Sure he has a crack but he has been smashed in the ruck so far this year. He is ground around the ground with the contest and marking but his tap works is pretty ordinary.

They tried at least for the first 3 quarters. Dominated possession but missed some easy pressure shots at goal. 4th quarter, you know exactly what was coming, you always pay the price for wasting your effort. Walker was horrible. This was our chance at getting a win this season.

We played the Crouch brothers in the center all match and lost.

Genius coaching
Why isn't Jones getting a fair go in the middle.

1 game with Mrouch back & Polholke reverts to a forward.

Sub 50 Gamers

McAdam - showing more than enough to suggest he has a future at AFL level. Great defensive work, elite leap, goal sense. Keep him in

Hamill - nearly best on ground for us, takes the game on, has elite pace and great disposal. He'll make it

McHenry - worrying signs to be honest. 12 rather pointless touches and had a shocking day by foot. Needs to start showing something

Frampton - competed well enough and looked better without Himmelberg. Needs an extended run in the side

Poholke - looked absolutely cooked in the last quarter. Is his tank an issue? Provides a strong aerial threat but didn't get involved enough as a mid

Jones - looked great in the last quarter but we refuse to play him on ball

O'Brien - nothing special from him. Tap work still a work in progress but he's very capable around the ground

Doedee - our best defender, has the skills to go with his defensive work and is extremely versatile

Crocker - worth persisting with for the time being, capable mark and gets involved in our limited inside 50s

Keays - our best midfielder on the ground, was more effective than the Crouch brothers combined from a third of the disposals. Really like his defensive work rate

Murphy - not AFL standard. Had another absolute shocker, we are legitimately playing 1 man down when he is on the field, he's useless

Senior players

Kelly - continues to stifle any offensive thrusts we make, and any time he tries to be offensive, he falls apart. Not up to AFL standard

B. Crouch - his first half was atrocious, and improved slightly in the second. Very ineffective and on about 4-5 occasions directly sold flat footed team mates into trouble with hospital handballs. Decent enough in the last quarter when he stopped giving it to Matt

Hartigan - unnecessary inclusion, should have kept playing McAsey

M. Crouch - worst on ground. To have such little impact from 27 touches is almost impossible. Didn't work on any of the issues that saw him get dropped, he was defensively woeful and too concerned with stat padding. Needs an extended stint out of the side

Lynch - his kick into the man on the mark in the final minute of the match sums up the last few years of his career

Laird - disgusting. The amount of times he handballs to a player 3-5 meters away under immediate pressure is criminal. Totally found out at this level

Brown - serviceable as always, should be used more offensively instead of Laird because he actually has good disposal

Smith - 400 meters gained for 4 score involvements and only 3 inside 50s. Another largely ineffective game from Smith

Talia - serviceable, continues to be our most reliable senior player

Walker - has had one good quarter this season. Unfortunately he's finished as a player and needs to be dropped for Fogarty. I fail to see what leadership he is bringing in our forward line because the forward line is constantly a mess

Sloane - poor game from Sloane, shouldn't have played with his constant niggles. Had a good patch that nearly brought us back into the game but was ineffective outside of that

Our commitment to securing pick one is the best part of the season so far.

Tex feigning the sun in his eyes when he was laced out. Lynch kicking into the man on the mark. Crouches turning it over with almost every forward kick. Picking Hartigan. Playing Sloane on one leg. Kicking one goal in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters combined.

We are in it to win it and I don't see anyone challenging us. I just hope the players don't show their mental weakness and * it up.
