Sacking a coach with 5 weeks to go in the season only creates instability imo. As the players pointed out, it wasnt Baileys fault that the players cbf manning up. Left Hawkins in the goal square for a couple of minutes.

I rekon Green shudve been demoted first:p has done nothing this year to warrant the captaincy
I posted somthing about that in the main board - if the players have no respect/time for Bailey then he cant make them accountable no matter how hard he tries.....Its up to the new coach to do that and believe me he will find out and act accordingly

shame it had to end this way but it had to be done

I hope the players all personally apologise to him.

Feel sorry for Dean, but some refreshment is what the club needs.

His position at the club became untenable after the Cats game, but this doesn't go down well with me at all. The players now effectively get off scott-free and Bailey shoulders the blame for their insipid effort and for what ultimately was their fault.

What a shambolic state of affairs our club is in.

Agree with rhaz. No coach can control such a pathetic effort. I hope they personally apologise to the man.

Had to be done.

You cannot walk away from a 186 defeat without any casualties. Dean seemed like a good bloke, was an unselfish coach and handled the media like a pro. But the club had no other choice but to sever ties with him. In fact, given his future beyond this year was 50-50 before yesterday's disaster, it really was a no-brainer.

186. That number will go down in history.

All the best to Dean. I liked him and I genuinely wish him well in life.

The leadership group should be next. I want them all to step down. James Frawley, Jack Trengove and Jordie McKenzie to lead the team in the final 5 weeks.

Amazingly, the care-taker coach (I hope it's Viney) could lead us into the finals. I have no doubt our chances against Carlton this week have skyrocketed, and I can see us winning 3 of the following 4 games after that.

MS Paint thread loses some real quality....

What now?

Viney? Royal? Mahoney for the lolz?
I think there might be a John Farnham style last round of goodbyes from all his friends on the MS Paint thread. I know I'm working on something, but I doo feel a bit like after John Howard got the arse in 2007: a dark day for comedy.

I don't really like this, I smell panic in the air. All the stuff about Schwab and Connelly coming out of the blue as well. The whole situation is not just worrying, it destabalises our club, it means we aren't as well advanced as we'd hoped, it means we don't have a stable base for next year, it makes Scully going significantly more likely in my eyes.

Oh well, he's gone and now it is time to find a replacement and get optimistic about our future again.

Untenable is the word.

Shambolic ain't.

Good post SS. Sums it all up well.

Rivers, Beamer, Green, Sylvia etc will have to play the game of their bloody lives this week. Nothing short of their absolute best for 4 quarters will do.

Well what's done is done - there was no way forward without something like that.

First of all.

Melbourne has a massive unbalanced list. Where are the senior players FFS to lead the way.

Sylvia has always found himself in strife and ditto Moloney. Green wasn't even in the leadership group before he was appointed skipper.

I am not trying to have a shot here but I hope the melbourne supporters actually look at what you have got.

You have a bunch of young footballers that have talent and they need a strong coach and good leaders. If you are expecting Jurrah to be the answer you are dreaming.

I would make the hard call on Sylvia and let him go (GWS) and the 400 k a year you currently pay him put towards keeping Scully.

The best thing Melbourne FC could ever do right now is appoint James Frawley as skipper with the new coach. I guarantee Frawley would be a player the others would learn and grow from as he is a fanatical trainer and from reports is a born winner and hates losing.

Hope things can pick up for you guys.

check my previous posts, malthouse WILL be at melbourne next year as WILL scully. Bring on november for the announcement!!

And some more stuff was said here --->

Most of this is pretty spot on. This is a very interesting year for the MFC. Will only get more interesting as the weeks go by.

Who will be traded?
Will green stay capt?
Who will be coach?
What will Scully do?
Will anyone jump ship?
What of out record membership #'s next year?
What of our CEO?
What does Connolly do?
Where can we expect to finish next year?

We also know what happens to the opposition team the week after a coaches sacking. (See Adelaide today)
Feel sorry for the poor buggers

It was just good luck for Bickley that he was thrown up against an absolutely garbage side - unfortunately for our new coach Mr. X he's got buckleys.

A still thinks it a bit harsh on the guy its not his fault his team didnt want to play yesterday

So the inevitable has happened. Surely no one is surprised he won't see out the year? 186 point defeat after what has been an ordinary season thus far, is an instant dismissal.

Yes, I wish him all the best, but anyone who truly thought this guy was going to be our next premiership coach, had rocks in there head. If only Stynes could send a few senior players with him(and yes, at season's end, he might).

Now, will Schwab and Connely keep there jobs? Time will tell. Seems like Schwab could be gone, while Connely is mates with Lyon, which might save his job. Once that dust settles, then the true test will come for this club. We simply cannot stuff this part up! The right coach, with the right coaching staff, can take this club to success. Sort out the little squabbles with the admin, get the right coach in place, and we can turn this around very quickly. I still have faith in the list to a certain degree, so all is not lost. I just pray the board doesn't stuff this up in the coming months...

Had to go. I just hope the rumbling about the behind the scenes fractures are false. We can't go overboard and throw the club into (further) disarray...the clubs statement needs to be a strong message to the members!!

Do you reckon the MFC will be going after Rocket Eade hard? The question has to be asked....is your list comparable to the doggies list that Rocket inherited when he took on the dogs reign? And if he does...will he keep Scotty West as an assistant? Talk about a domino effect, 2 coaching vacancies for 2012 - Eade, Clarkson and Ratten all unsigned.

There's no point in going after Roos or Malthouse, both said they won't be available next year.

Surely Neale Daniher's rein set Melbourne back 5-10yrs with his recruiting/trading.

Bailey was untried and a huge gamble.

Some of Bailey's team selections smelt of a coach who had personnal vendettas against certain players.

Watts will thrive now that Baileys gone mark my words.
