Unless I've got my facts wrong, MFC has had 1st year 'rookies' as coach since Ron Barassi and John Northey in the 80's. Nothing wrong with 'blooding' new coaches, but with the current list, is 2012 the right time for another 'rookie'.

I'd look at established coaches first eg. Clarkson, Eade etc., and if nothing can be done there, then look at the current assistants.

I wonder what Neil Daniher would be able do with the current list? It would be interesting.
 
I'm sure caro and hutchy will be all over him on Monday night - the put up or shut up question will surely be asked

surely can't do much good when lyon comes out publically and says clarkson would be a great fit for the dees.

You should say "refrain from posting crap". Nothing wrong, in my view, with opposition supporters who contribute in a proper manner to the thread.

well clarkson would be a great fit and hes not wrong, but i guess your right that would have to certainly influence the board in some form

i think to be fair to gaz he certainly doesnt go over the top talking about things, and even when he does pot the club he keeps it short and sharp and moves on, besides.. what other vocal ex melb players are there... the ox?...... robbo?? sometimes it feels like no one used to play for the club before 2008
 
Hey guys,what would you say if Lyon was coach and Mark Williams as a assistant. Could be wrong but this is what i heard bout 2-3 weeks ago.

That causes massive issues, its like setting up a business, employing people to run it, checking in every now and then to see if it is making money or not without knowing the day to day runnings of something you are invested in.

If it not a success then you should KNOW why not ask why, that is smart business and this situation is no different, If Garry has as much of a say as you tell me then its one or the other, ths scenario helps nobody let alone the coaches and players being judged on a bit time basis, that is just foolish IMO.

and like i said mate we all would love gaz to put his money were his mouth is but he is far too happy being a media commentator with a respected opinion at the footy club without having to put his reputation on the line.. who knows, gaz has coached the vic country under 16s, same thing buckley did... but he really just seems to be far to settled

Thank you very much :) I did not know that I was the biggest Melbourne poster on these boards. I only knew that I was the highest quality poster. I don't want to pump my own tires though...

Oh, and I probably should put something in here about Bailey. I think it'd probably be a bit rude of me to ask for him to refund Saturday's ticket now, given how much of an income he has just lost.

Not enough obviously. He'll never, ever do it and who shouldn't even be speculated over.
 
What are the chances of Green resigning the captaincy at tomorrows press conference? Surely his tenure as captain would have to be under serious scrutiny after the performance he turned in.

I think we are underestimating the difficulty of playing in a forward line receiving no delivery, double teamed against the best defender in the league (Scarlett) and another rotating star defender. I'm not saying he didn't play badly but we had much bigger issues on Saturday.

IMO the best thing your club can do is pick your guy, and let him surround himself with like minded people, Melbourne dont need a coach that willl tinker with this and tinker with that, they need a coach and assistants that demand uncompromising and hard football where if players do not toe the line they are out.

That sets a standard, creates a culture and puts everyone on notice, this may not create instant success but it sets apart the ones who want it and the ones who don't, and eventually reaps rewards.

I want a coach that underperforming players are scared to walk off the ground and face. I'm sick of these bloody nice guys at our club.
