I think a lot of our probs over the last few years has come from inconsistency from our on field leaders. Baileys plans didnt seem to evolve with the times or even be remotely progressive. So I think the board made the easy decision to sack Bails.

The hard decision will be who to appoint next. I like the idea of a tough coach. One that will be an uncompromising, no excuses approach and get back to basics. Tackling, pressure, spread from the contest, and play players in their natural positions. The mindset of the players needs to change the most, they are quite capable, the new coach(es) need to able get the right mental attiude from the players.

Ps. All the best to Bails, if we're handing out awards to bloke of the year he'd be winning...

I remember reading an article in the paper saying Bailey was appointed coach and my first reaction was "Who the **** is Dean Bailey?"

It's worth thinking about this post from a player's perspective and how they've perceived the guy.

that would give credence to the rumours of player angst against the board, who knows maybe junior mcdonald took scully and trenners under his wing and cc and cs turfed junior mcdonald which has left an unshakeable feeling of hate from the playing group

First of all.

Melbourne has a massive unbalanced list. Where are the senior players FFS to lead the way.

Sylvia has always found himself in strife and ditto Moloney. Green wasn't even in the leadership group before he was appointed skipper.

I am not trying to have a shot here but I hope the melbourne supporters actually look at what you have got.

You have a bunch of young footballers that have talent and they need a strong coach and good leaders. If you are expecting Jurrah to be the answer you are dreaming.

I would make the hard call on Sylvia and let him go (GWS) and the 400 k a year you currently pay him put towards keeping Scully.

The best thing Melbourne FC could ever do right now is appoint James Frawley as skipper with the new coach. I guarantee Frawley would be a player the others would learn and grow from as he is a fanatical trainer and from reports is a born winner and hates losing.

Hope things can pick up for you guys.

I agree it's good Bailey's gone as realistically he was never going to win us a premiership. However, they better get rid of CC and possibly Schwab too. It isn't one mans fault.

My issue within the Bailey era was...

While he was seen as a devloper of players...many shone then burnt out. Many showed promise and fell.

While players alos went into games 'hoping' to win. Look through the old game previews where we played top 8 teams. Most of the time players would be saying things like...."If we implement our game style and play to the best of our ability we will hopefully pull off a victory"...

I mean as a professional if I go to a job site and hope I can do the job, then I am not going to do a good job...If I dont have confidence in my ability, i need to ask why
? Am I not experienced enough? Do I not understand what I am doing? Are my skills not up to standard?

I mean its possible to perform well, but an obvious lack of confidence has been shown. Many players lacked belief and went backwards after going forwards. You can not go into any game and expect anything less than you are going to beat your opponent! Anything less is incompetent and unprofessional. Our players were that yesterday. Didnt even rate themselves. When you don't have confidence in your ability to win and play to the best of your ability a change is required.

I hope Dean's head isn't the only to roll. Green is not a natural leader, the best thing he could do is step down. That would be leadership.

All the Best Dean Bailey. While you did not provide us the goods over your tenure, I really hope you can do something else. Whether the results were his fault, lack of facilities, spot fires within the board room or playing group, it is all irrelevant. Dean is gone. Best of luck for the future.

That does make sense. Once Bailey went with the tanking philosophy it was always going to be difficult to get respect back. You just can't build a losing philosophy and then one day say let's win now and start to magically win games, you can't turn it on like a tap.

Horrible coach, although I do respect the fact he put the MFC first and blooded many young players this year when he could have played the likes of Bate, Dunn and Warnock.

What do you think about Dean Laidley as an option?

If my memory serves me correct you were keen on him before he got his extension at North in 2007.

He'd be someone that would demand a 4 quarter effort. And let's be honest - what he achieved at North with an average list was remarkable. With the talent you have, it could be a good match.

I hadn't seen his name as an option so I thought I'd put it out there.
