thank god.
Horrible coach, although I do respect the fact he put the MFC first and blooded many young players this year when he could have played the likes of Bate, Dunn and Warnock.
Im now excited to see who will coach us, I got the feeling we will land a big fish.
If it wasn't for your mob, we wouldn't have had him in the first place. If he was that horrible why was the Board about to offer him a new contract? I checked the playing list again and pretty sure I did not see Dean Bailey out on the ground, although he could not have done any worse. If you believe a new coach will be the answer you are kidding yourself. Malthouse even if he was available would run away do fast it would your head spin. This week you meet Carlton who laughingly accused the Dees of bruise free footy, and they were probably right.
I can only imagine what Geelong was saying.I hope some of the Melbourne players have a good long hard look at themselves this week because what they did to their supporters on the weekend was unforgiveable.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your misguided rant. For starters you couldn't differentiate between the role of the board and the admin.I do actually feel awful for Bailey. He had to go, admittedly, because members and the board cant be seen to tolerate such a performance. But lets be honest, we've tolerated mediocrity for so long anyway. Bailey was sacked to send a message and is not a reflection that for his near four years, he has been a bad coach of the club.
Someone noted quite correctly, Bailey until the end of last year had done exactly what was required. High draft picks, cleaned out dead wood, improvement in the last year. 2011 has been disappointing at yet we are still amazingly not out of the finals race. Despite that we have turned in some terrible losses this year. The players are very much to blame for what happened on saturday, but we had this coming (not to this magnitude) but a string of 10 goal plus losses to good sides illustrates that we are still, a long way from being anything half decent.
Our board really shits me. They are renowned for being biggest knife-wielding back-stabbing admin in the game, once again this is no exception. It should not be lost on anyone, Bailey presented as the exact person they wanted...someone with a developmental background, methodical, with an understanding rebuilding doesnt happen overnight...what this meant was someone who would definitely bottom out and get the right picks to take the club forward. He did that. Mature aged players disposed of before their expiry date, in order to blood youngsters at the expense of results. He did that. Now everyone's up in arms as to why we could possibly lose like that? Its simple. Years of losing. And by lots. So many thrashing under Bailey's era. Cant blame him for it really, just following the directive from the club. Unfortunately his limitations have come to the fore this year in terms of match-day decisions, which are poor.
Bailey may not be the coach to take this group forward but his tenure has not been a complete waste of time. I hope him all the best and hope this hasnt ruined his career (though it most certainly has).
Just another MFC coach/player to walk away/shoved out the door from this club with an entirely negative experience. I wonder if anyone thinks fondly of their time at the club - barring the special stories like Stynes?

Something really stinks about Saturday. I am not say they threw the match, but if Brad Green could only get one possession by half time, yeah right. The club should investigate thoroughly and sack any players who instigated any form of protest in that manner.supposedly some of the Geelong players were saying it felt like they hadn't played a game of footy. no surprises there.

Bailey was too much about development, that's all we ever heard about. With so many young players starting there afl careers out, they just want to get out there and have fun, but they have been drained with all this constant development business, instead of training like any other club ours has been developing for the future, we aren't here to win, we're here for development. All this development has taken the fun out of footy, and when you ain't having fun you lose by 186 points.
I know none of that made much sense, I'm just losing my mind, this year is dead to me, bring on 2012

Yeah, and he is also mates with CC who has been blueing with Bails. It sort of colours things.
I want a coach that underperforming players are scared to walk off the ground and face. I'm sick of these bloody nice guys at our club.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Dunstall is the Football Director at Hawthorn, so I think he has a fair say in what goes on.Not sure if this has been covered but I think there is a culture issue at the club that goes deeper than coach or onfield leaders. And it manifested itself in the spectacle of Gary Lyon saying he would ring Stynes and have a chat about it.
I know we revere past champions, and we get defensive about our clubs but just for a moment imagine where a club is when past players, no matter how good they were, wield influence or even power at a club they hold no official post with. It only ever happens when a club is at a low ebb not one on the cusp or a genuine contender.
For example, what if any real influence do Dermie or Dunstall have now, yet a decade ago no-one dared sneeze without their say so. Imagine for a moment Geelong taking their lead from Sammy, Billy or GAS, wouldnt happen. They barely get invited to club functions let alone ranting on radio they are gonna sort things out.
My point is, that the fact Lyon has that kind of clout from outside the club is a worrying sign and one of the first impressions I would want to be scotching if I were running the place. I hope they come out today (your management) and do just that.
Players and coaches come and go, but culture is hard to shift.
Nice timing btw, bruise free intervals is about the most we should expect next Saturday.

Garry Lyon is a highly respected football person, and I don't have an issue with him giving advice, or the club seeking his advice. The fact that he doesn't have an official role at the club is irrelevant.

Jesus Christ, Bailey is handling this press conference amazingly. Absolutely stellar bloke
Well said, was about to post the exact same thing, great bloke.Jesus Christ, Bailey is handling this press conference amazingly. Absolutely stellar bloke
Ban anyone who suggests Garry Lyon. How many times does he have to say he is not interested?
