One of the players the dogs got as part of that trade was Matt Kennedy who had 25 touches at 80% and kicked 3 goals in that game.

Smith had it 33 times at 50%

Pretty sure you could call that a draw or even win to Kennedy in that game.

With the trade , the Bulldogs did make a team above them better and only finished 3 games behind Geelong.

Smith is 24 and Kennedy is 28. Smith is one of the Brownlow favourites.
He is worth a top 5 pick and a top 10 pick at the very least.

The Bulldogs didn't really want to keep him.
He wasn't seen as a starting midfielder in their team.
His 2023 season was average and he was not in the top 50 players in the comp.
He had never even made the All Australian squad of 44 (or been close).
He was recovering from an ACL and a year off.
He had off field and mental health issues.
He was uncontracted.

The Bulldogs were never going to get a massive haul for him. It was hardly worth self sabotaging to send him to the draft.

His value is now higher after a stellar season that exceeded everybody's expectations.

Sometimes you need to make a stand when you get a disrepectful offer and Geelong may have upped the offer if he was going to the draft.

Yes, like I’ve posted previously, Geelong took a punt on Smith when other clubs lost interest. They thought they could keep him out of trouble, shut down any bad stories being outside the Melbourne bubble and get him playing good footy.

He’s had a great season, but is still a watch on just whether he can play out the contract he has been given.

He strikes a bit like Clayton Oliver circa 2019 or Aker circa 2000 atm - great for a team of strong leaders who are in the window, so get your flag while the going is good.

Maybe, but I haven’t been too perturbed by his behaviour. Had no issues with anything prior to this incident. Didn’t mind him giving the bird to rude supporters.
He certainly got this latest one wrong and he apologised, as he should have.
Feels like people want to make a big fuss about something that isn’t that much really. He’s been pretty reasonable with his behaviour this year. If he makes a habit of being unreasonably rude to people, then who knows, but we aren’t there at this point.

I thought Dangerfield’s response was absolutely fine. Calm and sensible.
Again- it seems to me that some of you people are desperate to be outraged. Smith hasn’t done anything remotely comparable to ‘real damage’.

Was watching a doco on the Erebus racing team earlier in the week.
They had a part on David Reynolds who quite openly said no one tells him what to do and rebelled against Covid restrictions from his employer.
Bailey Sith comes across as the same typebof character and would no doubt rebel if his team mates or employer called him out.
I think this is why outwardly he appears to get a free pass.
