Seems staged IMO. CA tell George that they're bringing in Finch, George "steps down", by magical coincidence praises Finch in presser, and wallah, Finch is our new insect overlord.

Bailey seems smart. Probably CBFd any more. Not much money to be made in t20 for Aus, and it's monotonous repetitive crap to play.

Gives an indication of the player's respect for international t20 when he drops the captaincy to play shield.

My respect for Bailey just went up.

Hopefully without the T20 distraction Bailey can get a Test mindset back and reclaim a spot in the Test side

Or he is getting primed for the ODI world cup next year, he could be the captain if Clarke is held back by injuries.

I don't see how having the T20 captaincy holds somebody back from preparing/putting their name up for the World Cup and potential captaincy. If anything it would enhance it in my eyes.

I read it as CA positioning to leave him out of the one day team as well. Otherwise makes no sense that he couldn't continue as T20 captain until after the ODI WC, not as if there are any important T20 matches on the horizon.

That would be interesting given Clarke quite possibly well retire from ODIs after the WC

Surely he is one of the first picked in the odi team?

Bloke averages 50 with a strike rate of 90.

He should be but it is just strange to me. Especially when George is talking up focusing on the shield and pushing for the test side instead of playing a home WC. Guys like Maxwell and Mitch Marsh are the shiny new toys in CA's playpen.

Bailey doesn't have to break into the one day team. Barring a real loss of form he's already in it.

He's captaining the side in the UAE and will presumbly captain the ODI team for a few years after the world cup as Smith hopefully cements a spot in the team
