Bailey

Interesting article, however, if MFC were scouting for anyone in the way of coaching personnel, somehow I don't reckon that Gerard Healy, an ex-Sydney player, would be our first, second, third or fourth port of call for advice on these matters...

Not until he gets a neck, then he can go neck himself.

Too harsh?

To harsh imo.

Yeah Healy is a bit of a dick, but I'm more than happy for these kinds of articles to come our and elevate the pressure on Bailey. Our last 3 weeks have been so pathetic, he deserves it.

In relation to Lyon, I'm not sure if he can coach or even wants to, he's almost to cemented into the media as the 'Hairy Gorilla' I think the transition would be to hard for him to make.

Nah, that sounds fair to me Dez. Tough but fair, as they say... ;)

Wish he had some kind of comical lisp like Cawwo... then at least he'd be more amusing to listen to :D

I don't mind Healy in the media as he is usually impartial but if he thinks Gary Lyon would or could coach at AFL level then he's lost it.

Lyon hasn't played for 10 years and has never coached, except for his brief stint as coach of the International Rules. With the way game has evolved since the 90's, I doubt that Lyon would have the inside knowledge required to become an AFL coach. So to suggest him as our next coach is ridiculous by Healy. Just because he has a media profile and is a former captain doesn't mean that he wants to coach, or that he would be a good coach.

Bailey still has a year and a half to run on his contract anyway, so I don't know why this issue is even being discussed.

This can be applied to Voss, Buckley and Hird as well but it didn't stop Voss getting selected or Buckley being approached and Hird would be getting the same treatment as Buckley if he said he wants to coach next season.

Great idea :thumbsu:

Thanks :D

Anyone else agree?

[Before people flame me, I'm actually against the idea of Bailey being sacked. I just wanted to throw Neitz's name out there as a possible candidate]

haha, i was going to suggest this earlier but BF wont let me start threads for some reason:thumbsd: If he would I would throw the cash at him or Hird

Sack Bailey. The Experiment didn't work. Unless winning one game a year is "progress". Oh and how good are our last quarters? Take off the beer goggles everyone, we are becoming fitzroy like.

The difference is, those three are fresh out of the game, so you'd think they would be up to date with modern tactics and the inner-working of a club. Lyon hasn't played in 10 years. A lot has changed since then.

I sit here and read these posts and think to myself why most of you aren't coaching, your all experts about what should be happening and how Bailey is going.

There is no doubt in my mind that Bailey is a good coach, no doubt. But the guy was given a basketside of a team and club. What he needs is complete support and I am willing to give this to him for at least 2 more seasons.

If the dees don't improve as of the same time next year there will be calls for his head, there is no doubt of that. But patience must prevail. Just think how sweet it will be after all these years of pain when the cup is lifted. I'm in for the long haul, get on baord.

We should have more such post's that support the long haul... I think people expected so much from this season , that we would get lots of 20-30 point loss's and say "oh in time, we just need player XXX to develop" ... Unfortunately we need the whole club to develop, change is coming but rationale thinking would suggest at few more performances such as the last 3 before we get back again to 'competitive' footy being played. To many cooks not enough kitchens ..remember people what happened with the last cook (James Cook) 2 games (correct me if i am wrong i think he kicked 6 or something in the first) and he left....That aside we will get there but it will probably be 2012 before we play finals again.

I completely agree CS. Personally I find the ridiculous posts calling for Bailey's head that we've seen lately to be cringe-worthy beyond belief.

Although, thankfully, such knee-jerk ignorant comments are usually pretty rare on this forum, since the vast majority of us are intelligent and informed people.

I find it interesting that people posting hypotheticals about whether DB is a good coach or not are described as ignorant and that some observatations / questions from supprters that have suffered a pretty horrid 2.5 years (with 1.5 of them under DB) are described as knee jerk.

There is no doubt that Wonna33 is the most positive and supportive MFC poster on this board which should be commended. I do however understand if others dont have that ability to shut out what has been a horrid period for the club. So be patient with them.

All in all DB will coach next year due to him being contracted, but jeez I hope that he achieves some success on the scoreboard next year and that we don't look back and think 'this whole thing hasnt worked'.

I do have faith, but I also think we will need a little luck to make 2010 a marked difference from this year.
