Anyone hear his comments before the game on Saturday, basically blamed changing the game plan on the day for costing us the 89 GF.

Thats's interesting! Was the change in game plan to play the man and not the ball for the first half?

Yeah, Bairstow blamed the decision to play the man and forget about our quick ball movement meant that we were 40 odd points down at half-time. Said that the Hawks knew that they wouldn't be able to cope with our quick ball movement. Stopped short of blaming Blight though.

For someone that has his jockeys and trucks in Geelong Colours he's still bitter about a lot.

Maybe he seems to forget he cost us the 94 Grand Final by playing with broken ribs and allowing Peter Matera to kick 5 goals on him. Get real Toby.

That was 92 he was lined up on Matera and surely Blight had something to do with that too.

I must say I have always wondered how it would have panned out if we hadn't seriously fired them up and so they took off and we had to reel them in. Great game.

When i think of Bairstow and Riccardi for that mater-the 1st thing i think is how much better they could have and should have been , Sure they had ability -but those type of players were the reason Geelong failed in crunch games -they wernt genuinely hard. You contrast that to Sellwood and Bartel-well theres no comparism -thats why Sellwood and Bartel have got premiership medallions -and the other 2 havent

I was rapt to hear Bairstow's voice again after all these years. I still have fond memories of him in that magnificent midfield with Couchy and Buddha Hocking. The manner of his sacking by that prick Ayres still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. He'll always be a Geelong legend to me.

Can still see Matera streaming away from him down that wing...

I know Gazza didn't have the best of defensive skills but if Malcolm simply asked Gazza to stop Matera in the 2nd half, you think it may have helped us?

I can't think of any other player who'd have the speed and skill to do a half decent job on him that day

Yeah we can all ask that now but I was a happy Cat fan when Dermie hit the dirt like a bag of shit at the first bounce, hate the prick with a passion but admire his courage that day.
Football between our two sides changed for ever September 89,haven't they given us some wonderful contests since.

Yep well said concur with all ( our players were also brave but got overshadowed by Hawks big injuries-quite a few of the ended up in hospital yep?)
