who the **** puts vegemite on a crumpet?
Me. I love it. It's the same as having baked beans.

So I'm living on my own for a month. I've never done shopping and I'm not sure what is enough. I have a 50 buck budget. I really dont think that's enough. I'm thinking buy a shitload of 1 dollar spaghetti in a can and baked beans.

Gonna be a shitful month.

Here are some suggestions of mega cheap and fairly nutritious foods:
*Baked beans - this thread should have convinced you of the merits. Stag Chilli Low Fat is a good option for when your sick of beans.
*Pasta - a complex carbohydrate. Don't believe anyone who says you shpuld cut carbs, or that a low carbohydrate diet is good for you. It isn't.
*Canned tuna -Omega fats, high in protein - (salmon is too expensive)
*Oats - these are seriously my favourite food. High in protein, low GI, got high thiamine and niacin, and lots of essential fats - for instance GLA. Highest fibre of all the grains too.
*Also buy a heap of poor quality apples, which you can get at some fruit shops. If thery're really crap, you could stew them. Or whatever fruit you prefer.
Buy a shitload of starchy vegetables - like cheap poatatoes.
*Buy some long life milk - if things get really lean - milk is liquid nutrints and kilojoules.
*Rice - buy a massive bag.
*Chicken drumsticks - can get a few kilos really cheap, take the skin off them and chuck them in the freezer.
*Canned soup - Soup is very filling, and low in kilojoules as it is mainly water. The only real drawback is that they are pretty high in sodium (other than obviously that they don't taste as good as home made).

If possible, buy this stuff at ALDI.

My other tip is to sponge off mates whenever you can. Any opportunity, even if it is someone you don't really like. Invite yourself around for meals...snacks..drinks...whatever at every opportunity.

I've lived on 90 for a full month. It wasn't great. So I've no idea what 50 would be like.

But back on topic, beans are great. They're delicious and nutritious.

Thanks mate, but I'm living off 50 for two weeks.

Bought 11 packets of pasta, 6 tomato paste, 15 packets of noodles, 5 boxes of coco pops, 2 3 litre milk. Hopefully I'll be sweet. And 5 breads.

So morning coco/bread, arvo pasta and another serve and dinner ? noodles :o
