I think pies are nicer, mmmmmm. But the question is, should a bakery pie be classed as takeaway? I subconciously assume pies are healthier than maccers and pizza. Is this a correct assumption, or are bakery pies choc full of additives too?

Bakery pies yeah yeah! :)
Had one at Nagambie bakery the other day (crap 2/10) and Jerilderie (awesome 8/10).
Loch Sport bakery is 9/10. Best ever!
My local Glen Waverley baker 3/10. Meh.
 
Any Bakery pie is great, but if im after one that could be classed as takeaway id buy. the Spud Deluxe from Jesters. Ripping pies there.

But do you guys think freshly baked bakery pies are a healthier alternative to take away, or are they just as bad for you?

And yes please keep the sauces of where to get the best pies coming.

Just as bad I think.... I couldn't imagine all that tasty pastry would be too healthy. And if you are eating a steak pie, its really just meat, gravy and pastry....not too much nutritional value there. A pastie might be slightly better with the carrots/onions/potatoes involved but even that would be drawing a pretty long bow!
 
Vili's are the king of the mass produced pies. Their normal meat pie is usually better than most bakery pies in my opinion.

Cant beat a good quality country bakery though. Home made pies and sausage rolls, donuts, buns etc. yum. Theres a few good country bakeries where I live. Crystal Brook pies are incredibly more-ish. Is a challenge keeping it to just the one. Then there is Stonehut, which is on a level way on its own. Their 'standard' pies are outstanding, but their gourmet pies are just insane. They have emu, goat, venison, kangaroo, wild boar, camel amongst others. The Kangaroo Pie is probably the best pie ive ever eaten. Plus they are big too, probably at least 30% bigger than most normal pies. Huge sausage rolls too, probably the thickness of a soft drick can...massive bloody thing.

If anyone is ever in the mid North of South Australia...it is a must to stop at Stonehut.

Yeah. A normal meat pie is usually around the similar fat and kj content as a big mac
 
Although most bakery pies are better then commercially retailed pies, you can also get some absolute shockers.
With pies such as four n twenty, mrs macs etc. you know what you are going to get.

Wish I was in Beechworth now - mega hot ones in my part of the world.

but I digress, Beechworth Bakery :thumbsu::thumbsu:- i am salivating just thinking of that place. I would go upstairs to the servery up there, saved waiting for ages downstairs as the only thing wrong with the place was the staff were sooooooooooooooo sllllllllllllooooooooooooooooowwwwww.

Is there still a Beechworth Bakery in Echuca ? Just as good as the original.

Don't know if he's still there, but the pies etc from the Bakery in Anderson St, Yarraville was tops as well. Had been there for years and years - about
3 generations had worked it.

four n twenty is allright i guess. but man do love those party pies, although sometimes can be very hot even though the pasty isnt.
 
Yeah, Beechworth is amazing. They have one here in Ballarat now too. Been there for a couple years. The sausage rolls are to die for. Only gripe I have is the price of the items... But they're so good that they're worth it. Oh, I think they must have the same recruitment manager too. Slow as hell here as well!!
