Only realised yesterday that this is digital only which sucks. The $40+ saving for physical would have been nice. Can't wait to get into this though when its out on PS.

Was also wondering why I couldn't find it at JB Hi Fi's website. How much is it on the PS Store? Don't really want to be paying $120 for a game with my track record lately.

It’s 120.95 on the Australian PlayStation store, it’s worth it.

Doesn’t come out until September 6 on PS5 though.

IMO the only game competing with it for GOTY so far is ToTK.

Replayability is nuts and there’s so many different choices you can make and it seems like most of them matter.

The funny thing is that every single decision you make is both going to simultaneously endear some party members to you and really tick off other party members (mainly Lae'zel, because she's a bit of a sociopath at the start of the game).

From reading too much cool stuff from you guys here and everything I'm seeing on YouTube and stuff, I can't put this off until I planned to. Going to jump on board as soon as I finish what I'm playing at the moment.

Also thought this was a really good video about the state of modern RPGs.

So this game is THAT good it could become the new standard for RPGs.

What was the last game that had an impact like that? The Witcher 3?

Witcher 3 was the first to come to mind for me. That game heavily influenced stuff like Horizon through to the Assassin's Creed series reboot even though they aren't exactly RPGs. The biggest draw to me about BG3 is that it is more of a pure RPG compared to what is loosely described as an RPG these days.

Lately true RPGs have been mostly relegated to the isometric type games like Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity which are in the style of the traditional games by Black Isle, Interplay and BioWare, and can be considered niche and AAA developers have been able to brush them off. With Larian showing now what is possible then other developers don't have any excuses anymore.

Downloading from Steam now. I'm psyched!

Decision time on a character.... so many options....

I've spent all day thinking about what character to roll. I nearly always build a tank and base my party around that but this time might do something different. These games always have a great rogue-type companion at some point so it's redundant to roll one so I'm thinking of a caster, but I might have to look up some non-spoilery guide on companions and see how soon you get access to a viable tank.

Have fun! The choices seem abundant. I started with a wild heart barbarian, and while I enjoyed her I deleted that character for a lore bard who I’m having so much fun with! Whatever you decide have fun!

Enjoy the game! I haven’t been this obsessed with a game for about 2 or 3 years now. :)

I played about 6 hours and decided I want to try another race and class so will start over and test it out

I don't like replaying games (doesn't do it for me once I know all the story and quests, even if there's different outcomes, I prefer one big playthrough where I do every single side quest and that's it) so I gotta restart now or never

bit worried about some of the bugs I'm hearing, couple coworkers said the further they get in the more quests start to break, characters that should be dead are alive in the next section, quests just randomly triggering end state etc lmao. understandable in a game like this but also makes me want to wait for the first big patch before playing properly

either way, from what I've played it's gonna be insanely good. just building off DivOS2 which was already one of the best CRPG's I've played, but there is a lot different and improved to make it not just feel like the same game

I think the rest of the game isn’t as polished as the first act because early access never went past the first act unfortunately. I’ve heard stories about the bugs as well and I’m a little concerned myself. Luckily I haven’t gotten past the first act yet so I’m hoping by the time I get to the second act most of the bugs will have been cleared out.

I’m considering some multi class builds

Tank build - Half Orc Barbarian/Paladin

Blaster build - Dark Elf Warlock/Sorcerer

Something a little different - Wood Elf Rogue/Monk

hearing it's at least better than the Divinity OS games in terms of the content stays at a higher level and doesn't seem as empty/rushed near the end as they did but yeah the quest breakage seems pretty bad. like I said to be expected but I also don't wanna deal with it myself :p

they'll sort all the major shit before too long tho

Well regardless of bugs, I like this game enough that I’m considering buying it on PS5 as well next month as a birthday present to myself haha

As a wood elf Rogue myself I don't consider that a "little different".
Rogue's are pretty OP.
I’m a half wood elf bard, so some of my skills cross over with rogue, but rogue’s seem op so much that I’m using the rogue party member over the cleric party member :D

How well do you guys reckon this will play with a controller? Is it going to be a pain in the ass not having a mouse?

I started last night and settled on a female drow sorlock build.

After a couple of hours I’m hooked already!

I'll give controller a crack just to report back but I was actually reading a thread somewhere else (maybe comments section on YouTube?) where some reported that controller support on PC was pretty good. I guess with a planned console release then controller support has been baked in from a very early stage.

I saw something on YouTube that mentioned controller play was okay.

I reckon I’d struggle though.

just messed around with xbox controller on PC and you could easily play the whole game with it IMO

movement is arguably better with the controller being able to use the joystick to walk around. there was only one little section where I was struggling to get in the right spot to climb some boxes out of a room - but then the game told me you can press the left joystick in and it gives you a movement circle where you move it wherever and click A and the party moves themselves there (equivalent to what the mouse click movement is) so that's no issue

inventory management is obviously a little worse having to move through each item but that's the same with any game with an inventory on controller. as for moving stuff between chars etc you can select multiple items then move all across to someone else at the same time. overall inventory works fine

you can d-pad left and right to cycle through whatever's in view. so say there's like 6 crates you can easily cycle through and pick which one to loot without having to get into exactly the right position. can also use that to cycle through targets in combat instead of manually aiming with the joystick

jump, sneak, search, examine, interact etc (all the common stuff) are bound to buttons so you don't have to go into menus for them

using attacks and abilites you bring up radial menus with right or left bumper. honestly even after a few battles I was already starting to remember where everything is and getting to it pretty quick. can also customize the radial menus so you can put all the most common stuff in the first one

they said they will be "improving controller support" in the lead up to PS5 release, not really sure what that means but as someone who wouldn't have thought of playing this with a controller it works better than I thought it would
