The best thing the Herald Sun ever did was make their webpage subscriber only so I dont have to read that crap any more.

This. I was done with that joke of a paper before and I'm even more done now. They're like a pack of vultures.

The Age are using ridiculous words like "crisis" so not a lot of love for them either right now.

The media namely the Hun what absolute disgrace they are if it was not so serious it would be laughable, what I talk of here is there impugning of our medical staffs reputations because that is what it is really.

These journalist they should have good hard look at their standards all the way through their media organization ie the phone hacking in the UK they are just disgusting it does not matter if it is sports or current affairs journalism their standards are so low as to be invisible.

I do not see a great need for Bally to get the Lars option he would be better going the traditional route whatever happens this season happens no use to to rush anyone back now.

Back to the Huns story it is gutter journalism at its finest and just about what you expect from that organization we all talk about a football clubs culture but what about a newspapers culture.

Channel seven are the biggest bunch of w***ers. Claiming there's a huge story coming out of Collingwood, than waited ate least half an hour, than finally went to bed before the story broke, only to find the next day that there was no real breaking big news.

What they did was kept the viewers tuned in, awaiting what was an absolute fluff story. Really annoying broadcasting...

This.

Funny that most, if not all, Pie stories are subscriber only access. (big supporter base and all opposiiton fans wanting to read negative articles on us) I got the free trial to see what it's about but have no intention of paying for the same stories you can get elsewhere for nothing. What you are actually paying for is someones opinion. I can come on BF and get a heap more opinions and generally have a bit of fun with it.

As has been mentioned before, just google the title of the article if you really want to read as it will most likely be published elsewhere on the net for nothing.

TRS summed it up perfectly. Though I'd like to add that Luke Ball is an extremely intelligent individual (enter of 98 or something) and will become a millionaire in his own right once his career is done.

While bearing that in mind is there a person out there that could actually believe that someone so intelligent would go back on the field unless all due diligence had been conducted? Him taking the club to court is as likely as a Richmond supporter suing the club for their microwave exploding after they nuked their membership

hehe some legal tosser wants his name in the paper, so rings up a journo mate saying 'luke is within his legal right blah blah'.

its collingwood and so makes news.

next.

Pretty much this. Ball achieves nothing by sueing the club now. He might get a relatively small payout for pain and suffering but since he is in contract and still getting paid he can't really claim loss of wages. The report is alarmist and the likelyhood of him suing any time soon is pretty small imo. Why would he want to risk alienating himself from the club for such a small payout of damages? Suing now would hurt his prospects and the clubs immeasarably.

If he was intent on going legal then the sensible way would be to wait until he retires and then sue claiming the injury shortened his career. Either way you cant really dispute Ball's character imo. If he sues the club then I would say that its highly likely the club has done something horribly wrong.

Sometimes it difficult to diagnose an ACL as you can run OK with it but cannot change direction quickly as it will go from under you. The way Lukes knee subluxed look very similar to how mine occurred playing netball. I had minimal pain (if any) so continued to play out the game. I also consulted a doctor who said it was OK to go and played in a grand final 2 weeks later. It wasn't until my knee went from under me 3 months later that I realised that something was wrong so I ended up with a reco. Cannot see our medical staff doing the wrong thing with Luke.

Ball went on himself, he said it in the media himself and would have to prove that they forced him onto the ground

Exactly, if Luke has any intention on suing he would not be making any moves now. My thoughts would be a payout would be judged on the following factors:
-Pain and suffering caused from the injury
-Loss of earning capacity, ie match payments from missed games, future contracts being smaller than otherwise would have been due to history of injury or diminished value as a player due to that injury
-Loss of future earning due to shorter career
-Punitive damages as punishment for sending out an injured player

With the pay footballers are on if there was a negligence claim than the payout could be substantial. However I have the utmost confidence in the professionalism of medical staff of all AFL clubs and would assume the proper testing was conducted before sending Luke Ball back onto the field. If not then the club would deserve to get sued.

How about all players growing some balls and suing the AFL. The number of injuries is just going to grow and grow with this sub rule. Tired players are more susceptible to injuries.
