Is turning into a pretty hopeless footballer recently...... just play the game and forget about trying to be a smartass and niggle, he might actually turn into a respectable contributor that way.
 
Tries to do too much IMO. Every time he gets the ball he is looking to do something spectacular. All candy and no bread-and-butter.
 
Surely a better option in midfield than Pav? Switch those two and at least he's going to give some better supply to a Pav lead forward line..?

Did you ****ing watch the game?

Even before the game started, his player was niggling and elbowing him like an MMA fighter, but he didn't blink an eye. His mind was 100% on playing the football, not the man.

Wholeheartedly disagree.
 
Ballantyne is so far from the issue! Always plays with intent- with tackling and contesting (even if the ump gets sucked in with 50m penalties)
 
What a terrible thread. A small forward has a couple of quiet games in a spluttering team.. he gets alot of free kicks from that niggle, and beings so much energy. Terrible thread.

Well why start a thread like this you gonzo......if everyone tried as hard as Balla our season wouldnt be so shit,he may do the odd silly thing but you cant question his intent....I can think of 15 others you could take aim at before Balla.
He actually provides run and uses the ball a lot better than the majority of others
 
An he actually throws his body into the contest an at opponents to try an win ball or tie it up.
Unlike about 15 other players who keep there body out of the way an just try an do it all reaching out with their hands.

Ballantyne is suffering from the same problem as Medhurst.
Trying to do a little too much all the time.
Medhurst did the same some games it would pay off others he would have a shocker.
Once he moved to collingwood he learnt to control himself an play the percentages abit more.
Would still go for the flashy dangerous kicks but not as often.

It either changed with age/experience
Or coaching.

Once Ballantyne stops trying to do too much all the time, his game will be much better an more reliable.
 
^ stupid as it sounds i thought Jeff Garlett was more dangerous than betts today- so quick with good disposal. Could really use someone like him in the other forward pocket / mid rotation

Trouble is we have noone to get the ball to them and in space.
Then even when we do manage it they have noone to kick to.

managed to get even under the skin of Murph and it is not often murph gets rattled. When Balla gave away that 50 you could see a few of the Blues eyes light up and they went to have a chat (esp some of the WA lads like Army Ellard Yaz). I must say Balla did work hard yesterday and was a bloke who did keep his head up and maintain his workrate. If he did focus on the ball more he would be so much better. But again I think he did well yesterday

I think he offers more in the midfield than he does up forward. Sure his pressure in the forward line is sensational but he doesn't kick enough goals, whereas nearly everytime he has gone in the middle he has given us something.
 
About the last bloke that needs a keyboard spray.

Obviously he needs a small amount of fine tuning between the pedal and metal that should come with another couple of birthdays.

He's the perfect HF for us IMO.

We really need Walters to get step it up next season.
