Teams Baltimore Ravens - Rise and Conquer

Great timing of this signing. Now if we can find a way to squeeze in Justin Houston it will lift the draft class from a B to an A for me.

Ravens signed restricted free agent RB Gus Edwards to a two-year, $10 million contract extension.
Edwards is now signed through the 2023 season after averaging at least five yards per carry in each of his first three NFL seasons. He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2021 season. Described by Baltimore offensive coordinator Greg Roman as a key part of the team's rushing attack, Edwards -- a former undrafted free agent -- appears to be the 1B option to J.K. Dobbins' 1A in the Ravens' ultra run-heavy offense. Edwards, 26, graded by Pro Football Focus as 2020's fourth best runner, should see an uptick in touches with the departure of Mark Ingram. Since 2018, Edwards has gained yards on 89.1 percent of his carries, the most of any player in the NFL in that time, per ESPN's Field Yates. He's steadily rising up draft boards, and there might not be much daylight between Dobbins' and Edwards' ADPs come August.

Not a bad endorsement from Russell Wilson of all people:

If you could steal one attribute from an NFL quarterback what would it be?
That’s a good one. I would say Lamar Jackson’s speed. Lamar is pretty fast, he can fly, man. He’s special. I like Lamar Jackson.

Report: Ravens' Lamar Jackson's New Contract Expected to Be Between $40-45M per Year

TYLER CONWAY
JULY 21, 2021

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson's contract extension is reportedly expected to be done sooner rather than later, and he will reportedly average between $40 and $45 million per season.

Dan Graziano of ESPN said Jackson's deal is viewed as the likeliest to be completed first among his peers from the 2018 NFL draft class. Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield are both set for contract extensions as well, but Jackson's status as the 2019 NFL MVP gives him power in negotiations.

"It wouldn't surprise people around the league if Jackson's deal came in behind Mahomes' $45 million-a-year average and ahead of Prescott's $40 million, but as always, the key will be to watch the structure and guarantees," Graziano wrote.

Any number between $40 million and $45 million is a natural middle ground because Jackson has accomplished more in his NFL career than Prescott but less than Mahomes. While most MVP-level talent would look to reset the quarterback market, the Ravens have good standing to put Jackson a rung lower than Mahomes on the pay scale due to postseason accomplishments.

Whereas Mahomes has led the Chiefs to two straight Super Bowl appearances and three consecutive AFC Championship Games, the Ravens are yet to get past the second round with Jackson as their starting quarterback.

Allen and Mayfield will likely come in with numbers lower than Jackson, with Mayfield being by far the least accomplished of the three. Allen is probably in position for a Prescott-esque type deal, while Mayfield will probably have to "settle" for an average annual value below $40 million

I have heard that there is quite a bit of bonuses inside the $40-45M amount. Lamar will need to be performing at a high level (or injured) to earn all of it.

It will still eat an awful lot of our cap space….

Think thats sensible of the Ravens org to load a new contract on bonuses especially based on performance. Incentive-laden, onus on the player to prove themselves for the level of their next contract

Ravens signed LB Justin Houston to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Houston turned down better offers to play for the Ravens. The 32-year-old took a step back in 2020 but remains an effective pass rusher, posting eight sacks on a 59% snap share. Houston gives Baltimore a veteran starter and should play in passing situations in a rotation with Pernell McPhee. The blitz heavy Ravens are a strong fit for Houston, who fills the void from Yannick Ngakoue and Matt Judon leaving this offseason.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said WR Marquise Brown suffered a hamstring injury that's more significant than originally believed.
There's not yet a timeline for Brown's return to practice. The hamstring issue, according to The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec, is more significant than the team first thought. It's a bad break for Brown, who came on at the end of the 2020 season. His absence could give rookie Rashod Bateman and journeyman Sammy Watkins a chance to emerge as the team's No. 1 receiver, though neither will see notable volume. Mark Andrews remains Lamar Jackson's top target.
