4 out of the last 10 have been abandoned due to rain at the GABBA, compared to 1 at SCG and MCG, Adelaide, Hobart and Perth with 0
Is that correct?
I can remember a gabba game being washed out i think against the WIndies about four years ago but i can't remember any others.

Why the hell did they build the Telstra Dome in Victoria. Its clear we need a roof stadium in Brisbane and probably will need one this friday in Sydney.

Vic, SA, WA should get 90% of the games and give the odd 1 to QLD and NSW to keep them happy. Everyone wins.

Wished they'd schedule a match down this way, it's the only time we ever get any rain.
Used to be when you mowed the lawn or washed the car you'd be guaranteed some sprinkles, it's always the cricket now.

The Gabba should have one game, not two, and it should be played as a day game. I can't believe Cricket Australia hasn't organised that by now. Have they not realised Brisbane is in a tropical location??

The arguments about being selfish because QLD is in drought- completely irrelevant to this thread.

The weather cannot be trusted up there to hold internationals, if the GABBA cannot get a result out of two matches during a drought then there is no chance.

Give the extra games to Perth
So you are advocating the alienation of the cricket fans in Australia's third biggest city by taking away their ODIs?

It's not completely irrelevant to the thread, the reason why most of Queensland and Brisbane has been in drought is, surprise surprise, it doesnt rain that often.

Now, in typical BF style, a couple of games with one day between them get washed out due to a rain trough moving over the state. So one poster brings up the stat that 4 games out of 10 have been washed out in Brisbane. Now i presume the 2 latest are included in that stat.

The fact is the 2 games at the gabba coincided with a trough moving over the state, which has been quite a rare event in the last decade.

I'd suggest Victoria should concentrate on producing a decent cricketer rather then whinging over rain and Adelaide should concentrate on getting some grass on their concrete deck.

Long term Brisbane averages over 150mm rain in both January and February...it isn't a fluke or one off....it rains a hell of a lot in the summer there.

I don't understand you, are you saying that Brisbane is always dry, or that during this drought Brisbane has been dry? If the first, then Brisbane Airport averages 120.9mm in January. Sydney averages 102.8mm. Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne all average about 50mm or less. So it is the wettest capital.

If the second, then yes for the last couple of years SEQ has been in drought. But now, that drought has been broken. So now it's time to start discussing how Cricket Australia can minimise rain interruptions in Brisbane in the future.

We all remember how Brisbane robbed us of that third final against NZ two years ago, or so. A much anticipated game that didn't see a ball bowled.

We've already proved Brisbane is a much wetter city, it averages the same amount of rainfall that Perth does in August, and you certainly wouldn't schedule a cricket match here at that time of year.

Mate, it is a silly argument, bringing up records that are decades old. I give up. You win.

It's annoying yes, but at the end of the day it's only a game so get over it. the gabba has arguably one of the best pitches in the world and when it doesnt rain the matches up here are a true test of skill of all players. To suggest giving one match to the 3rd biggest city in aus is stupid. That's like saying no test matches should be played in england coz bad light always seems to stop play.

There has been only 1 final at the Gabba as far as I am aware - a 3rd final at that.

And the 26,139 to see Sri Lanka on a Thursday is more than what turned up in an Australia v South Africa match on a Sunday in Melbourne in that series.

And how is that relevant to this thread? We have many players that could easily get a game in both forms of the game but there isnt room atm. (D Huss, Hodge, White)

And besides there's not much we can do about that than hope for a form drop or injury to give them a chance. Games constantly washed out at the Gabba on the other hand, just move them somewhere else.

Pretty obvious that was built for the AFL to replace Waverly.

Hell why dont we build a stadium with a roof in every capital city so a couple of one day games dont get rained on. Not like there is anything more important to spend the money on.

The test match from my recolection never seems to get washed out, so with the scrapping of the Tri-Series and the introduction of seperate one-day series, play two of the ODI's against the first team here at the GABBA (ie. before christmas).

going by the 'there's a chance it will rain so let's not play there' logic in this thread...England would never host an international cricket match again:rolleyes:
