What needs to happen is a rule introduced if the possibility of rain is high it becomes the following.

Team one bats for 25 overs
Team two bats for 25 overs

Team one comes back in and completes the innings
Team two comes back in and completes the innings

If this was done we would have had 2 results right now instead of two non results where team 1 has been in for between 40 or 50 overs and team 2 has faced 0 to 10 overs.

So now we should completely change the game just because QLD cant fit a full match in?

Problem with that is Team 1 would have to preserve wickets whilst Team 2 would have a far better idea of the match situation and a much greater chance of victory

Yeah better to alienate a state that has produced some damn good cricketers for Australia by taking their ODI's away because of a little bit of rain.

Not like 4 out of the current 13 sqaud in the ODI's are from QLD.

Or 3 out of the 12 man test squad are from there either.

Who is suggesting alienating them? They can still open the GABBA when the matches are on and the 15,000 can go there and sit in the rain but this time they can watch a cricket match on the big screen :thumbsu: It'll be an improvement

You have NFI. Rain ruins a couple of games and you have a whinge.

Could happen anywhere at any time. Will you call for melbourne to lose games or them be moved to Telstra Dome if it rains there during a match in the next 100 years?

Most matches should be at the Dome anyway, no one is interested much these days in the Aussies thrashing everyone so a 50,000 seat stadium would be a better fit

Yeah Im sure that would work. MCC would be thrilled.

Called the Melbourne CRICKET Ground for a reason.

Play India and the final at the G, play Sri Lanka at the Dome for example

Not much point playing crap matches at a 100,000 seat stadium

Sri Lanka crap?Hmm making the World Cup Final seems to disagree with you there.

The odd match at the Dome might be ok. But the MCG is part of the cricket culture in this country. Taking games away from there would be totally crap. Especially with the revamp of the One Day series after this season.

I said crap matches, Sri Lanka doesnt draw. They would not have packed the G last Friday night if it was against Sri Lanka

CA seem to have gone off the Dome, they loved it in its early days, destroyed a series by sending the 3rd match to the GABBA, but often played full series under the roof, since the MCGs revamp I dont think they have had a game

Shame as its a great venue for watching cricket

Under the new system you could play SA next year at the G and NZ under the roof (I think they are the other side?)

PLaying at the TD is crap compared to playing at the MCG.

Of course India are going to outdraw Sri Lanka, not many teams that would outdraw them... with the exception of India.

Still would get a very healthy crowd to see Sri Lanka and the Aussies play.

The smaller crowds will be done away with after this series as the Aussies will be playing every match.

Still cant see your reasoning for taking matches off the Gabba.

I didnt start the thread :p

Truthfully all I disagree with is the GABBA getting finals given their track record of no results

No, because most states have rain interrupted matches from time to time. Sydney has had one this year and a few in the past, Melbourne has had one or two in the past (I was at it in the early 90's and it was silly we watched one side bat 50 overs and the other not even face a ball) and I am sure if you look through the records all grounds have had matches affected due to rain.

I can see your issue with my set up, but Duckworth Lewis seem to have the answer to situations where rain comes into play I am sure they could do a formula to cover this and make it more likely we get a result in one dayers.

Well the finals has always been something that has annoyed me. I know Sydney and Melbourne think they are the centre of the Universe but I have always felt the finals should be rotated amongst the major cities.

Thats what I hope happens know the ODI series will be 2 sets of 5 matches. Every city, including Hobart, get at least 1 ODI. Each summer there is a rotation of who is lucky enough to get 2.

You're an idiot, the MCG is the best sporting venue in the world.
Telstradome is a ****ing piece of crap.
Who in their right mind would want that:rolleyes:

I've been to footy, World Cup Rugby and cricket at the Dome. For the first two, the atmosphere was unbeliveably awesome. For cricket it is dull, stale and silent. Shocking venue for cricket.

And how is that relevant to this thread? We have many players that could easily get a game in both forms of the game but there isnt room atm. (D Huss, Hodge, White)

And besides there's not much we can do about that than hope for a form drop or injury to give them a chance. Games constantly washed out at the Gabba on the other hand, just move them somewhere else.
The fact that Victoria hasnt produced a decent cricketer for the best part of 10 years is an embrassament to the state which seems to think it is the centre of the universe.

You have einsteins like Keith Stackpole and Deano Jones putting their say into the situation, the fact is these so called experts cant see that the wickets at their beloved MCG are quite simply shit. Their own players think so.

The players you have mentioned are not test standard, Hodge was found out on bouncy wickets, Hussey and White are ODI players at best.

I notice its raining at the MCG today, makes you look like an idiot doesnt it.

Light drizzle for 15 minutes jesus....almost the same as the torrential downpour in Brisbane today.
My point is simple. WHen a ground is given 2 games, they are often double headers.

Therefore, 2 games are normally played over 3 days. One game on Day 1 and the 2nd game on Day 3.

Now, it's commonsense, considering my audience i will try and keep it very simple.

If a rain event or trough is crossing the state then it is likely that there will be a prolonged (2 days to a week) period where sporadic rain events will occur. These rain events have the potential to drop a lot of rain very quickly.

Now if by coincidence a couple of games are fixtured to play during on of these events then it is quite possible that both games will be washed out.

Consquently, the main people who are calling for the Gabba to be banned are showing their lack of intelligence. A simple rain event bracketing a double header at the Gabba has washed these games out.
