Are there any books on the case? Looked on Amazon but couldn't find any.

The underbelly special was pretty good, and I remember it was massive news in Melbourne at the time.

There's two. One down one missing, a book about the taskforce, written by one of the members

eavesdropping on evil, book about the surveillance on the debs family household

If Debs had been unable to find such an enthusiastic and willing accomplice to commit another string of armed robberies (he'd done a bunch with another accomplice a few years previously - a nephew from memory - who'd been spooked off after a close call), he probably wouldn't have done them on his own and the murders would have never happened.
If you're talking about the Silk and Miller murders, then fair enough. But he was certainly capable of killing without an accomplice, as the Hicks and Harty murders revealed.

I was specifically talking about the armed robberies and the murders that were committed to avoid capture.

There was a gap of several years the original robberies with another accomplice, before he recruited Roberts. Therefore, it's unlikely that he would have been robbing restaurants by himself. And if he wasn't committing robberies, he wouldn't have shot Silk and Roberts.
