Senior List
It's not often that an injury which leaves a player on the
sidelines for six weeks is good news. But the Eagles are
breathing a sigh of relief that at least Drew Banfield won't be
the fourth player to be out for the rest of the season with a
knee injury.
Supporters couldn't believe it when Banfield was helped from the ground in the third
quarter on Saturday after hyper-extending his knee. With three senior players
already missing the rest of 2001 and having knee reconstructions, it didn't seem
possible that it could happen again.
The news came through today that Banfield should be back in Round 16, and that is
bad enough.
Saturday's match was tilted in the Bulldogs favour when Banfield left the ground, but
there was still the chance of an Eagles comeback. But after Banfield came off,
Nathan Brown was able to dominate the midfield and the Bulldogs never looked
back.
While the news that Banfield's injury is not as serious as it could have been will be
welcomed, Eagles fans should remember that David Sierakowski was also given
the all-clear to return to light training after injuring his knee in the Round One clash
with Geelong. It was at training that his knee gave way again and ended his season.
