I think they said during the telecast that it looked good (ie not a reco).

Carroll was injured too I think, that would be a huge blow. Who would of guessed we would be saying that?

On another "banners" topic, i'm getting a little tired of our ridiculously commercial banners promoted by the cheer squads at the games.

Hungry Jacks, Novotel, SGIO all seem to get a fair old flogging, not to mention some of the absurdly uninspiring and unwitty slogans such as "Top Stuff" or "Great Goal" etc etc.

We are a football club first and a corporation second. At 36,000+ paid-up members we're hardly strapped for cash either.

I sat in the aisle right next to the cheer squad today, and was astounded at how many Hungry Jacks flags they were waving. Or those banners with Hungry Jacks sponsor logos all over it. I don't think a single one of their flags was an eagles flag, it was all Hungry Jacks.

Bloody disgraceful.

Mind you, their chants were very inspiring. "Eagles!" *clap clap clap*, "Eagles!" *clap clap clap*

Shoulda come and said hi! You don't know how much it kills mine and DK4's throats starting those chants!
The Hungry Jacks banners are pretty useless, but it was a bit of fun today.. Pity we have to do it all year.. :(

The cheer squads need funding from places like HJ's to keep them going.. Could you imagine how the boys would feel if they didnt have a banner to run through in all their interstate games? I can't see the problem with a bit of advertising if they are going to provide the cheersquad with the equipment required to keep it going, but i think the new stuff is a bit over the top..

Looked bad when he did it but the commentators relayed news that it looked good. Still looks to be a 4-6 weeker though. Good news I suppose...

Someone said it was a hyper-extension which could mean anywhere from 3 weeks to a year depending on structural damage. We will have to wait for the MRI before the extent of the damage is known.

Maybe I'm a bit harsh on the chants, after all, footy isn't like soccer (now they have some good chants). But the banners really got to me today, scenes like that are why other fans view WC as a corporation more than a club.

P.S. Why doesn't WC give you guys financial support?

Sumich was on SEN after the game saying its a 4-6 week injury.

Yeh Woosha said at the after match function it will be 1-2 months.

Oh and on the Cheer Squad and the banners, its just a little bit of fun i suppose, but they could do with an Eagles emblem on it!

Hey and D4E, give me some ideas on some chants then, juddy03 and i start those chants and we would love some new ideas!!! We have 3 at the moment, and as long as everyone knows who we barrack for there is no problem!

(Btw, I was the nut holding up a 'Hungry to Win' banner and i felt stupid in a way!)

Cheers, oh and good win!:D

Two things I would like to say about our cheer squad.

First I was very impressed how professional our guys were. They were out full 20 or so minutes before the start of the game setting up the banner and did the full 360 rotation of the banner so that everyone inside Telstra Dome could see what it said. Doggies banner was baearly displayed and it was only erected about 2 minutes before players ran through it. There seemed very little for thought given whether or not their supporters want to see the message.

Secondly and this was brough about by my flatmate, and English girl, she noted how during English soccer matches they have very creative chants supporting their own team. But they also create dities that take the urine out of the other team too. Maybe those creative within the cheer squad can look into that.

In any case I do admire the Victorian Cheers squads dedication as its not easy being constantly outnumbered at the game. Well done great work.

That was you? Yeah, you were pretty vocal :D

On chants, umm, whats your word limit? And do you guys (cheer squad) sit down and practice them, or do you just chant them at the games and the rest of the squad follow the lead?

We don't sit down and do them, just do them at the game.. I was also the nut holding up the 'Cmon' sign! Very sore throat after todays game..
Some of the chants are pretty bland, and i think we need some new ones, buts its pretty hard to let everyone know about them..

Any ideas will definitely be considered..

It's very easy to be critical, i know, but a cheer squad holding up Fungry Jacks and other paraphernalia? Beyond ridiculous. We can tolerate a small strategically placed sponsor logo, but anything else is a bit of a sellout IMHO.

This is a worrying aspect of the club to me personally, the whole ownership structure has a tendency to promote these blatantly commercially profit-minded decisions. I mean FFS we're a footy club, as long as we're paying the bills who gives a rat's toss about things like masquerading as "educating children in the community" with the real motive of expanding market share via ridiculous propaganda booklets.

Indian Pacific Ltd, give us (the members) our friggin club back and stop selling our soul to the commercial devil.

I've tolerated this crap for a while but today i just decided i've had a gutful.

Would be great to hear some new chants, "Eagles!" *clap clap clap* is ok, but sounds a bit netballish. And I have to agree, those burger king banners are a disgrace.

Other than that, you're doing a bang up job!

I agree with all your points.. Maybe it's time for the people of this board to have a say in what they want to hear? Just a thought..

The HJ's flag are pretty bad, although they'd be alright if they were Eagles flags with some witty saying.. not like 'What a Whopper Goal' if you know what i mean

Most of the posts on this topic are just ignorant rubbish.

FACT: Indian Pacific went bust over 10 years ago

FACT: The Hungry Jacks flags have been there forever - we had them when I went to Brisbane 7 years ago

FACT: Cheer Squads in AFL are not allowed to sing chants that slag off the other side

FACT: The Eagles do not invest much in the Victorian Cheer Squad at all - any idea that it is a commercial sellout is just untrue. Now, the "Red Army in Perth" - you might have a point

OPINION: Before you slag off the people in the Victorian Cheer Squad, just understand how hard it is to do their (voluntary, unpaid, thankless) job

Oh my that is precious. I can assure you that IPL are a going concern and still operating as WCE's holding company. Hell i think they're even listed on the ASX, don't quote me on that though.

How does the fact that they've been their forever make any difference at all?

No-one is having a go at the cheer squads mate. They do a sensational job and should be commended as such. Personally i was having a go at the WCE management and board for these decisions made at the top to run our team as a corporate enterprise first and a football club second.

So how come the Eagles plough all their profits into the WAFC then? All our "profits" go to the WAFC and (in previous years before the bandwagoners arrived) to propp up the loss-making Fremantle and pay off the Subiaco Oval debt. If anything, we're run by public servants.

You guys should try a chant for hungry jacks to go along with the banners. Take the SGIO one at Subi for inspiration...

S G I O GO EAGLES GO

Maybe something like this...

Go Eagles! Beat those Hacks! Go Eagles & Hungry Jacks!!!

;)

I'm not sure about the WAFC deal - must be some form of profit-sharing arrangement.

I need some more info on the ownership structure to deal with these issues.

The Cheer Squad is just a way that we like to show our dedication to the club. We don't have to go to meetings and sit down and 'practice' our chants, we just rock up on the day and do them there. We get told by the head of the cheer sqaud what banners/flags to hold up and we have no choice. I think they are a nice change than just plain old Eagles flags anyway.

Oh and for the record we have 3 chants!:p

Give me an E, give me an A, etc
Eagles, Eagles, Eagles, oi, oi, oi etc
Eagles *clap clap clap*

SO :p
