Gold Coast seems like a massive waste of his talent. That club is where careers go to die.

Great news for Barlow and for the Suns, who could use some of Mick's leadership, heart and humour.
I hope he and the Suns do well next year (but not as well as us!)

Glad he got a deal; he's the right kind of guy you want around the club-rooms for moral support. I predict he'll have a fairly massive influence on players and staff alike.

But man - G. Ablett won't know himself when he gets that inside-feed from Barlow; might pull him across the line for another Brownlow.

Not just Ablett, but Harbrow, Rischetelli, Brennan, Brown, Broughton, Malceski all went to the Suns and had their careers peter out into nothing. Ablett has arguably been a better player at the Suns but that part of his career will be a foot note.

Harbrow for example has played 114 of his 184 games at Gold Coast and I reckon I watched him more often when he was at the Dogs.

For sentimental reasons I would have liked to see Barlow win a premiership. Zero chance of that now.

He has been saying the whole way through though, he has always said he has been talking to clubs but was hopeful that Freo would come around.


On another subject I really hope he gets more then 2 years at the GC, would have though he would atleast get 3 to start off but I hope they aren't shit for 2 years then force him out, he doesn't deserve that again and that would probably end his career

6/7 months is back to the early rounds of the season.I've never heard him say that before.

Yeah a little bit twitchy...different interviewer...exhausted..emotional tension..big changes ahead..etc etc...I'm sure he'll have 'em cheering and rolling in the aisles soon enough.

In terms of emotion, he's a bigger loss for me than Pav. Pav was always likely to leave at the end of the season and we were emotionally prepared for that (or the chance was there)

But not Micky B. He is (still) a heart and soul player for Freo and him getting asked to move on makes it all the more sad (bit similar to Crowls in a way; left before his time and not on his terms)

He will get an amazing round of applause and standing ovation when he travels back "home".

Perhaps, but it is an accurate statement… his skills are better equipped to suit GC and Freo started using him in spots where it is not his natural game…Most other teams would probably want to put him in the Half Forward Flank too…. GC lost Prestia, whom Barlow is a better player than IMO, and Barlow can slot nicely into this position. Also if he went to most other teams, they already have a ball accumulator midfielder. The inside work of Barlow and Gaza will be hard to beat!

How so?

The tweet on Halloween meant that 3 kids came to his door, one as spiderman, one as batman then one in a Freo shirt which made him sad.
No bitterness he was just showing his emotion that he is going to miss playing for the purple haze
